Came in as a recommendation since I was thinking of heading to 5 Points just down the road. Excellent recommendation. Had two specialty drinks, delicious. Then asked the super friendly and very helpful bartender for some beer recommendations. She gave us some nice samplings, totally hearing our likes and dislikes, and was able to really enjoy one of the beers. We then chose the chicken BLT sammie and mac n cheese with buffalo chicken. HOLYCOW on the sammie. I hate avocado but chose to experience the food without changes… so glad I did… freakin’ scrumptious. Nice proportions, too, since my friend and I shared the sammie and the mac n cheese. Loved the way the buffalo chicken was cooked on top of the very cheesy shells. Excellent service, perfect lunch food, and very helpful when choosing a beer. New favorite place in Sayville.

I gave this place another shot a couple months back and forgot to review it again. I have to say– I’m glad I went back! This place really does have a cool/hipster type vibe and friendly staff. We headed over on a Sunday morning, so the place didn’t have too many customers other than us at this time. I went with a group and we tried a few of their eclectic cocktails; the To Kill a Ladybird and the Calypso really stood out to me! Made with care, and unique ingredients, I haven’t tried anything else like them. We ended up splitting a Charcuterie & Cheese board which was a perfect snack. It looks like they’ve changed up their food menu since I was there last– so I’ll definitely be returning!

Met some friends for a bite to eat and some drinks. The beer was awesome, they had New Belgium Watermelon Lime which I never had/heard of and it was amazing. The food was ok, the pretzel app that my friends ordered before we got there was good, but the explanation was confusing. My friends thought it was coming with a mustard AND a cheese dipping sauce. What came was a mustard cheese. The server wasn’t even clear on what sauces(1 or 2) accompanied the pretzel. As for the entrees, my husband loved his burger and my friend loved her mussels. My grilled cheese was average and my other friend wasn’t happy with his cuban sandwich. If I stop by again(just because its out of my normal area) I would go just for drinks.

This place SERIOUSLY needs to do something about making their beer colder. Even chilled glasses would help. But they have some of the best mac and cheese ive ever ate and i highly recommend trying that with the buffalo chicken in it.

Best place ever!!! They serve food til 1 am, have live music, inside & outside, & the staff is always cute & friendly. My coworkers & I always come here after work & love that they can accommodate us on good food at hours that every place is usually closed other than the typical diner!

From the outside to in this restaurant is done well. Yes one could say a little hipster but overall they used the horizontal wood paneled walls to their advantage. Since it is a small space I found the restaurant a little load but as we were sitting we saw who had to be one owner showing people(friends) the new add on in another room off the bar/seating area which was more of a sit down restaurant then just bar. They also had an outside sitting area, but since it was a little cold did not get to see. I ordered a ginger beer which tasted great. but then I found out it was only 2%. 2% that’s crazy where am I Europe? One of the staff came over and suggested I added a cucumber shot in and I was sold and of course it was delicious. I also ordered the mac and cheese with pork belly and YUM!

Went here today for lunch. Had a good time. Carissa behind the bar was great. My friend and I sat at a table. Her birthday lunch. We ordered the Dive burger, Mac&Cheese plus the Duck Confit wings. All were exceptional. No complaints, nada. Met one of or the owner. Very nice young man. If you’re in this area stop in. Well worth the drive from any where. Nice beer selection. Plus Carissa whipped us up a Cucumber Martini. That was great also. Sayville has a lot of good places to have a nice meal. South Shore Dive and Kitchen is definitely right up there with them all. jfh

This place is SO good. You cant miss the décor on the sweet little street in sayville … It’s a smaller place but don’t let that fool you… I came here at 1130 am on a weekend day with my parents and it was jumping nearly an hour later… The food was off the hooook. Buffalo leg confit(yes, I will chomp on some of the juiciest chicken legs ever soaked in buffalo sauce and cooked in duck fat. Win.) The pork belly, oh my god… I haven’t had this in a while as the last place I had it ruined it for me bc it was so fatty and jelly like, however, not the case here. This luscious piece of fat was cooked perfectly and was crunchy delicious, it tasted like the best piece of bacon you ever had… On steroids… With a healthier component to accompany it… I really loved the quinoa that came on the side, it was so well seasoned and bursting with flavor and had some apples in it I believe. Just delicious. Clam and corn chowder was our starter to warm up our taste buds for the goodness we were about to inhale. Nice and creamy thickness you would expect with your chowder. Bacon cheeseburger– this will definitely be sufficient for all of your cheeseburger cravings. It is huge and tastes like the best burger you have ever had, better than all of those burger joints. Nice large burger cooked to perfection and oozing(rare bc. How else can you enjoy it!?) Lastly, the Mac and cheese. Now everyone know Mac and cheese is always a delight whenever you get it out. It’s the type of Mac and cheese that makes you feel naughty bc you’re eating it and it’s so good! A small part of me just wished there were more cheese sauce. Other than that, this place has an awesome future ahead. Awesome«divey» feel. No like there are pictures of scuba divers on the walls, it’s a neat touch… Not too many tables in here but a decent amount of actual seats at the bar. I would imagine this place gets extremely packed and if you’re coming here with a larger party, I would suggest to call ahead and maybe reserve or even check availability and or wait times… Oh and loved our waitress she was so cute and friendly… Always makes your experience better.

Went here with the wife for Valentine’s Day brunch and we weren’t disappointed. The drinks were great and the food was incredible. I had the chicken and red velvet waffles and my wife had a special, which was a French toast waffle sandwich with banana and strawberry, topped with a scoop of caramel gelato. The French toast waffle was delicious without being overly sweet, and the chicken was some of the best I’ve ever had. Not greasy, Very moist and seasoned perfectly. Service was good despite it being packed and out server was talkative, funny and very friendly. The vibe is cozy and the nautical theme is very cool. We had a great time and can’t wait to go back.

Tried this place for the first time since they opened and it was a great time. The dinner menu and the drink menu was interesting some cool combinations! I had the Dive King burger it was great. The Mac and cheese was good too but really small for 10 bucks. They have 2 infused cocktails that were actually pretty cool. I tried infused cocktail A: Cocoa nibs, brown butter, potato chips, pecan bourbon served as an old fashioned. It was actually really good. They have a large drink menu and enough beer on tap to keep you satisfied. I will definitely be back soon!

I’ve always loved The Cortland, Bobby’s other bar in Bay Shore, so I knew I’d love this place. What’s even better than the Cortland? The space inside, the yard(or biergarten), and the food. The Dive Burger is crazy filling, for me at least. And the kitchen is open until 1 am! And the infusions are different than what I’ve had at The Cortland which was fun. My only negatives is it’s far from where I live and not too close to the Sayville train station and the bathroom felt a little claustrophobic. Overall, I love the South Shore Dive!

Favorite new spot! 2015 has been a year for the record books. December and 65°. That’s epic in and of itself but tonight, it was snowing at south shore dive. See tonight was a special Christmas extravaganza of sorts over at the dive, chuck full of a spiked hot cocoa bar, live Christmas music, and a snow machine up on the roof; see, that’s the kind of awesome thing Bobby does at his bars. Keeping up with his awesome ideas from the Cortland(such as when the season finale of Breaking Bad aired, and he threw the projection screen up next to the Cortland, and spent the day crushing just the blue Lego candy and dispersing them into complementary bags to look like heisenbergs newest cook…) Epic. The dive just keeps with that awesome tradition. It’s genius to say the least. The host is a great one and he really takes pride in the place. It shines through and that’s a rare and super appreciated quality. At the dive you won’t be batting bar flies in some dark corner, you’ll be greeted with open arms, excitement, and a menu full of cocktails and entrees that will take you to that next level of comfort. The limited menu is skillfully designed to be on point every time. I’ve had just about everything off the menu and I encourage you to check it out. Great atmosphere too! Even before you walk in, you’ll notice all the beautiful wood and almost no trace of the dive Brach’s from before– this dive is something much different. All that wood has been reclaimed and repurposed wonderfully, and continues inside. Once inside you’ll notice a door to the deck area with one of my favorite features above your head you may not even notice, yup, it’s a sail to keep that theme goin’ inside and out. Behind the bar it goes on, the harpoon(I’ll leave that for you to find) and the divers flags are dope, accompanying the chalk board of ever changing craft beer on tap, often very local selections. Cans and bottles are lurking under the surface as well. This review and the greatness of the dive doesn’t stop there. If you’re feeling something different than beer you realllllly need to check this cocktail list! The same mind that brings you the infused vodkas from Bayshore’s Cortland, brings you some amazing seasonal choices such as the«Butternut Squash» This drink is glorious and you need to drink it immediately. It contains a vanilla bean infused vodka, cinnamon, and apple cider according to the menu but I’m definitely picking up some allspice or something as well, either way you won’t regret wetting your whistle at the dive. It’s divine. Dive in!

I’ll be giving this two reviews — one for their dinner and being a bar in general, and the other for their brunch. Dinner: my friend heard this place was under new ownership and we decided to check it out. I immediately loved the ambience, since going to a bar that isn’t focused on sports and has a good selection of whiskey is a rare find on Long Island, especially in Suffolk County. The waitress was very nice and the service was good throughout the experience. We ordered the baked clams for an appetizer and I got the croque monsier for dinner, both of which were great. My manhattan was also good, and I was pleased with the experience so I decided to go back for brunch as well. Brunch: I have to say that I really appreciate what they try and do for brunch, but I think a few things made the experience less enjoyable than it could have been. The food is served on paper plates with plastic silverware, and when eating food with syrups it wasn’t a very comfortable situation. My dad ordered the peanut butter and banana French toast, and I have to say that the portion was pretty small. For a full priced plate of food he got 1 piece or a regular sized French toast cut into fours, which left him pretty hungry. I think adding at least one more slice to the plate would have been better. It tasted great, though. I had the chicken and waffles, and was extremely excited to see it on the menu. Ever since going to Dane’s Chicken and Waffles in Durham, NC, I’ve been wanting to find a good local place that makes chicken and waffles likes that here. It wasn’t nearly as good at South Shore Dive, but it was good nonetheless. There wasn’t much drizzle on the red velvet waffle so it was a bit dry, but I would order it again the next time I go. All in all, I really like this place and am excited to see how they evolve. Hopefully they change what the food is served on, but the quality of flavor and service were both great.

Great little hole in the wall to hitup for some good fair. We came in last night to try the burgers I’ve been hearing so much about. I went with a classic bacon/cheese burger with tots. Let me tell you. this might be the only place I’ve ever been to that makes homemade tater tots. And they do not disappoint. I couldn’t even finish the last few bits of my meal. The menu might be small but what they do, they do well. Its also very affordable. I think we paid around 20 – 25(excluding tip) for 1 drink &2 burgers, fries and tots. Staff is cool and friendly. Go check it out. GETTHETOTS

From the geniuses that brought you Cortland, the best little bar on Long Island, comes South Shore Dive. This unpretentious gastropub is nestled into a comfortable space along Main Street in West Sayville, with a sizeable outdoor patio to boot. The ambiance is warm and inviting, dimly lit with a vanity-bulb-edged draft beer chalkboard menu centerpiece, mounted to a glossy subway tile backsplash. Top shelf liquor sits upon either side with back-lit, plumbing pipe framed shelving. The soft lighting reflects off the tin ceiling and the polyurethane poured concrete bar. High-top tables and seating line the left side of the interior. Reclaimed wood, multicolor stained, adorns various surfaces throughout, as well as their nautical themed sailing flag logo. Regional and local draft beers remain top-picks, with a selection of cans, bottles and even a mini-keg of Kolsche available. Specialty drinks and an infusion or two(a la Cortland) as well, although the wife and I stuck with draft beer for our visit on opening night. And speaking of, if anything can be inferred from that opening night, a dreary, cold, pouring rain, windy, mess of an evening where several hundred patrons still came out and enjoyed this joint — it’s a testament that this place is getting it right from day one. I would have loved to order every single thing off the menu, and maybe as the months go by I’ll get there, but here are my thoughts on the four things we did order: Crispy Pork Belly: A dish like this absolutely needs something to set it apart from all the other places in the world serving it. The absolute second your eyes take in this dish, you know it has it. Two aptly titled«crispy» chucks of pork belly are submerged in a lentil stew, topped with roasted apples. The carmelization of the maple on the apples, along with the cumin and dry spice flavors from the lentils, really set off the salty, gelatinous fat of the pork belly. We wolfed this dish down with pleasure. Roasted Squash Salad: This is Autumn on a plate(or in a tin, to be exact). The toasted pumpkin seeds, shaved manchego, and squash morsels offer flavors and textures of northeast comfort food. The vinaigrette dressing, based on Wolffer’s Cider, has sweet and sour zings a top the crunchy lettuce. You can feel pretty good about this salad, it’s fresh, healthy, and flavorful. It will offset the calories of all the other yummy goodness you’ll consume here. Dive Burger: It’s too big for it’s own good. Big-mac style, two 4 oz patties, bacon, lettuce, pickles, tomato, and a fresh toasted top, bottom, and of course, the center bun. Delicious, but about as hard to handle as the girl the Black Crowes sang about. The meat was top grade, juicy and tasty. Best eaten with a fork. We loved the hand cut fries as well. They reminded us of Five Guys fries! Delicious. Buffalo Leg Confit: this is simply unheard of. For real, talk about a new take on something, this is three things rolled into one, buffalo wings, duck fat, done confit style? Insane. And actually pretty spicy! Masculine! Football! Topped with crumbled blue cheese and shaved celery. I would have preferred fennel, to add a sweet licorice flavor, but my wife aptly pointed out that the celery was a parallelism to the palate cleansing, spice suppressing effect of celery with wings. You wouldn’t get that with shaved fennel. I’m digressing. Anyway, the legs were superb; meaty and tender. Quite enjoyable. South Shore Dive had already hit their stride just hours into existence, and I am overjoyed to have been able to partake in this new endeavor. I highly recommend giving it a go, and I will be back, and very soon.
