This is a great place for lunch. The soup is always great, and the sandwiches are made fresh to order. My personal favorite is easily the chicken salad sandwich. You simply cannot get a better one ANYWHERE. It is the standard to which you will rate all others! As other reviews state, the owner works the register and can be quite the grouch. Come with cash, or expect to use the ATM. These two reasons are the only reasons why I can’t give five stars. Sure, the food MORE than makes up for it, but go in knowing what to expect.

Owner is an asshole. Food is good but not good enough to deal with his attitude. I grabbed a soup off the counter thinking it was mine and he ripped it out of my hands and rudely waved my bag in my face. Obviously I was not trying to steal a bowl of soup. I apologized and he still kept thinking I was trying to steal. whatever.

Good sandwiches, yummy soup. I definitely enjoy their food. And ive never had any bad service, they’ve even kindly walked my large food orders out to the car for me when ive had my baby with me. Very delish and fresh

The guy at the cash register was very rude. He was dismissive and impolite. The turkey grinder was on a store bought roll, very basic, nothing special, and the chilli tasted like it was from a can and was extremely oily. I heard that the guy at the register owns the place. I won’t be going back…

Decent soup but not as good as I expected from the reviews. Servers were pleasant, cashier was extremely grumpy.

Great value, but bring cash! Soup and sandwich combo is excellent. Chicken salad very well done, and I can’t say I’ve ever had a bad soup. Cheeseburg Chowder is pretty unreal.

Although the place has a sight vintage funk to the air, it resembles an old fashion eatery. The food was exceptionally fast, inexpensive, and delicious. Outside tables were shaded and clean. Chicken salad was spot on!

Great great great sandwiches and soup! Absolutely recommend the chicken salad! They get busy and it’s a bit small inside so just go with the flow of the ordering process! Totally worth the pit stop though!!! And the roast need is my fav a little more red then I prefer but it’s really really good! And I love their soups … Great place! And I do agree with the other people the guy that mans the register I’m assuming he is the owner reminds me of the really stern dude from the episode of Seinfeld! He is really intimidating and honestly when I’m have a bad day myself I’ll send my husband to pick up the good because I don’t want to deal wth him. Basically don’t ask him any questions just line up pay and get your food and go. But the other staff usually is nice and very helpful! It is small and picnic type tables inside and one outside in front. There is virtually no parking so park on the street or in the cvs parking lot next door.

Good food, good prices, crappy customer service. I have specifically gone to Panera instead of Celery Stalk for lunch just so i wouldn’t have to deal with their rudeness.

i love this place. such a gem. i used to sneak out of lunch break during high school years just to come here and grab a quick bite. haven’t been there in YEARS until recently and forgot how good it was. i love how simple it is.

Fast service, great food. cheeseburg chowder is awesome. was also very happy with the split pea and tortellini soups. Chicken salad and roast beef sandwiches were both good.

Eh… maybe we hit it on an off day, because our experience seems to have been very different from other reviewers’. In our case, it was the food that was the problem. The chicken salad was crazy salty… as in, borderline inedible unless you cut it with mouthfuls of lettuce and tomato to balance the salty flavor. Clam chowder was just alright… but it tasted more like(tarragon?) than clams. The potato salad was pleasantly fresh but suffered from total onion overload… hard to believe I would say something like that, because I’m an onion lover who tends to over-onion everything, but there it is; one bite left me absolutely reeking of raw onion. Ryan’s pastrami grinder was pretty good, but the cheese never made it to the sandwich. Highlight of the meal was the chocolate chip cookies, which were pretty awesome.

I’ve had the unique pleasure of living across the street from Celery Stalk the past few years. As the reviews below state, the guy(I assume the owner) is pretty intimidating. He yelled at me once and let’s just say I never made the mistake of calling it broccoli cheddar soup again. It’s cream of broccoli people! Tuna and chicken salad are my favorites. I really never order either of them out but this place has such fresh food I just can’t resist. Try to come after 1pm. I’ve seen the line out the door and while it’s not a long wait, I’m really impatient and usually have to get back to work! Sit outside when it’s nice and make sure to grab a cookie! Best cookies ever. I’m always so sad when they run out! Cash only(or personal check I think but I have no idea who would pay that way these days).

You seriously cannot go wrong with ordering anything off of the menu. I highly suggest the cheeseburg chowder! Sadly you can only purchase it on Wednesdays only.

I’ve never been disappointed and always pleased with the food. I’m always careful with the Soup Nazi around. But I’ve never had any problems. They have a great chicken salad and egg salad, but my favorite is the tuba salad. I always get half a sandwich and a cup of soup for $ 5! They have awesome soups. The daily soup on Wednesday is Cheeseburg Chowder, and it’s fantastic. The chili and cream of broccoli are also excellent! Their cookies are perfect. They are only cash, close early, and only open on weekdays.

Great food. Always packed with people. No/Very little seating though. Can’t go wrong for the price and definitely worth the money. A favorite among the locals

Sandwich’s are good and chili is delicious but the service is awful. And not open on the weekend? What’s up with that?

Went here today for lunch and had a very pleasant experience. wife and I both had the ½ sandwich and cup of soup most Unilocalers recommend. i had a half bologna(very fresh) and the chicken and rice soup. wife had the tuna salad and the chicken and rice. soup was out of this world good… for $ 5 this is a steal! its a little awkward ordering. especially for first timers… but we got the knack of it pretty quickly. owner/cash register man must have been on good behavior today. said«thank you» and wished me a good day. nice enough spot… you won’t want to linger long… but for a quick and delicious lunch. at very decent prices… its a winner.

This is one of my favorite deli’s EVER. The food quality is excellent. The help is fast and with one notable exception always friendly. The soup Nazi comparisons are apt, but honestly, only if you make a point of complaining.(He’s always been nice to me, but I make a point to be prepared for my transaction, and say please and thank you.) The veggie sub is without a doubt the BEST veggie sub I have ever had in my life. Mushrooms, peppers, pickles, cukes, lettuce, tomato, everything… The chocolate chip cookies are second only to my girlfriends cookies.(This is saying a lot, honestly.) While I have never had meat there, the omnivores I know that have eaten her corroborate the other reviews here. Next time I am going to have to try the egg salad… They do a lot of take out, and you can call ahead. Oh. CASHONLY. keep that in mind before you go to pay(There are signs up all over, and an ATM in the corner.) And they are only open Monday through Friday until 5.

This place is delicious and cheap. I got a rare roast beef sandwich on a watercress roll and my wife got a ham and cheese. The meat is sliced to order so you know it is fresh, not to mention they pile it on. We also shared a bowl of bean and ham soup that was hearty, flavorful with just the right amount of spice. The place was pretty packed, and it’s obvious from the no frills vibe that people come here for the food. I went around 1:30 on a Thursday and there was maybe 2 tables open in the whole place. Maybe the locals are trying to keep it a secret and that is why there is only 1 review. For the quality and freshness of ingredients, not to mention the prices this place is definitely worth checking out. Another thing worth mentioning is they only take cash so bring some or prepare to pay $ 2 to use the ATM inside the place. That being said my wife and I ate for $ 12.37 so it doesn’t take much for you to leave happy. My only complaint about the place is they are only open Mon-Fri 9am-4pm so it can be hard for people with full time work to check the place out. So if you call in sick, or get a holiday off give this place a shot you won’t be disappointed.
