We recently had a house fire due to a creosote fire in the chimney. The old chimney was torn down and replaced to modern day specs. We needed a new fireplace insert We had recommendations and the best sounded like Harmon. We shopped around and we found the best deal at fireside designs. We purchased a wood burning fireplace insert and paid for a stainless steel chimney liner to be installed. The help that the store were very good although they seem to be more educated about pellet stoves than wood burning. As the winter progressed it seemed to be going through a lot of wood and the blower system didn’t sound correct. I burned a lot more wood than previously. The blower was making a humming noise, so I thought it was working but not well. In February I removed the cowling and found the left blower was jammed and not turning at all and the right blower only intermittently. I called Fireside and asked for Jean. I tried to explain to him the problems we encountered. He was very rude and told me I should have called him when I first got the stove. He said if he bought a car and the blower wasn’t working he would know it right away and return it. Could not return this product for obvious reasons and since the blower was making a humming noise I assumed it was working but not correctly. He agreed to send someone out and replace the blowers if necessary. Today I am still waiting for a repairman. It is now April 17th. the stove was still supplying some heat without the blowers. The repair man named KC arrived late and was very courteous and knowledgeable. He replaced both blowers but now they will get very little use until fall when the cold weather returns. It is now December 172015 and we have burned about 1(one) cord of wood and the new blower on the left side is noisy and stops at low speeds. I called Fireside Designs about this and a while later Jean(owner) returned my call and yelled and ranted on that I must have huge testicles to even call him again. He then refused to service this Harmon product anymore, even though it is still under warranty. He replied to my e-mail also to verify his refusal for any further service. I will attempt to contact the Harmon directly. Read this review entirely and form your own opinion on whether or not you choose this business man. The product performs well after you learn to use it properly and the employees are very good and polite. The owner not so!!!
