Pretty good! Really affordable and good. This is a casual steakhouse. Nothing fancy which is good on my budget. I had the Live Maine Lobster and Ribeye and they were really good. $ 15.99 for live lobster is a steal. It was cooked just right. Service was fast and friendly.

One star ONLY because the hostess was pleasant and very attentive. The waitress was humorless but efficient. As far as the food… I had the seafood or clam chowder, can’t remember which. Doesn’t matter though, I could find nary a morsel of either seafood or clam in this starchy potato bisque. Steamers were bone dry, I suspect they were kept under a heat lamp! Lobster was cooked properly. Corn on the cob, which should be DELICIOUS this time of year, was overcooked to the point of mushiness. Most of this meal I would equate with prison food.

Whenever my wife and I are in southern New Hampshire, a trip to Nick’s is a must. We have even driven there from our home in CT just for dinner and returned home. If you are looking for the latest hi tech décor or the newest fad fusion menu, do not go there. But if you are looking for a good meal at a reasonable price in a clean rustic setting, this is the place. And if you are lucky enough to have Nina as your server, then be prepared for a fun meal. She was like having live entertainment with no extra charge. My only disappointment from our meal last night was they were out of my first choice — broiled swordfish — this happens in other places as well. But my wife had her boiled lobster and she said it was great. I had the stuffed haddock and it was very good as well. The price was very reasonable. We each had a drink before dinner, our dinners, coffee and dessert and with tax the bill was just over $ 60.00. We have paid much more for less in other places. We have been there many times and will go back whenever we are in that area.

We drove 40 minutes to get to this place because one of our party of 4 indicated that she had the best prime rib of her life there. Well, she ordered it again, but after the meal, she said it wasn’t as good as the last time. It was only average. My partner and I agreed that the salad was fresh. I had the Lazy Lobster(spare me the work of picking all the meat out of the legs along with the mess) and I can only say that the quantity of meat was about what you would expect from an average size lobster. The cole slaw was average. I feel that the portions were adequate. Beer is available in bottle only.
My partner had the fried clam strips and fried scallops. She enjoyed the scallops, but the batter on some of the clam strips was still raw. A third member of our party had chicken parm and said it was ok. No complaints. The wait staff was very friendly, courteous and helpful.

A group of 10 of me and my colleagues visited Nicks recently. We were able to be seated quickly in the center of the restaurant. They were out steamers(although we saw the table next to us presumably enjoying the last steamers they had since they were able to order them and we were not?). Ordering was very organized but very militaristic. Certain dinners came with certain sides — only fries or mashed potatoes, you get a salad but she can’t, and my husband and another man ordered the same thing but they came out completely different. Not a BAD place to get a boiled lobster — food was alright(and this is coming from a picky eater). My only regret? Not getting a postcard of the giant crab on the roof.

ive been here countless times over my life and nick’s is my preferred restaurant if im craving seafood or steak. you can usually get a lobster there for ten bucks or less and TWIN lobsters for under 15. im not sure if it’s always on the menu but ive always been a fan of their swordfish as well. i ate fried oysters there last week and they tasted fresh and i received a large portion. ive never found the food to be too greasy as one of the other reviews mentioned. My mother always gets the prime rib and it’s always tender and comes with plenty of au jus. the service is always very professional and friendly and as far as steak and seafood restaurants go, nick’s is at the head of the class for cheshire county and surrounding area and ill continue patronizing this place in the future.

While camping nearby, we were looking for a restaurant to grab dinner. I really really really(cannot stress this enough) wish that we had driven another 5 miles, since we were THAT close to downtown Keene. ugh. That being said, this restaurant is overpriced for the quality. I am used to fine dining flavors, if I am going to pay $ 50 for a 2 person dinner(with no alcohol or desserts). I had the crab bisque to start, which was the best part of the meal. Bf had fish stew, which he said was terrible. I debated fried oysters but had a feeling they would not be that good here, so I ended up getting the lazy lobster. It was described as lobster in butter with cracker crumbs. This led me to believe it would be like a casserole. It was just chunks of lobster in a hot dish of butter with maybe a teaspoon of crumbs on top. It was okay, I mean you can’t really mess up lobster, but nothing amazing. I got the veggie side dish but it was just canned tomatoes, green peppers and summer squash. Bland. My dining companion had the prime rib au jus, which is one of his favorites when we go out for a nice meal. He said it was really bad. They sprinkled oregano and some other spices on it, thus ruining the flavor of the meat(according to him, I do not eat beef so I did not try it). The mashed potatoes were okay though. We skipped dessert because, well we already spent $ 50 and didn’t like anything so why risk it on a dessert and add to the bill. The waitress was nice and service was fine. Lesson learned: scope out restaurants before traveling. Had my cell phone had service in this tiny town, I would have looked up some places and known to drive into Keene. Oh well.

I’m hesitant to even give this restaurant ONE star! We went to Nick’s for the first time in March, in spite of having lived in the Monadnock Region for 36 years. We each ordered our favorite fried seafood dinners, I got the scallops, and my husband ordered the fried clams. I’ve never had a more«greasy» experience than I did at Nick’s. The portions were small(the clams and scallops) and oozing with grease. I had an upset stomach after eating such greasy food. My husband had the broccoli as a side dish, and the ends of the broccoli had not been cleaned up and were dark, ew. We don’t plan to go back again.

This was a simple old-fashioned restaurant. For me it would have been a great blast from the past, but they have gone cheapy with serving all condiments possible in tiny plastic containers. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful. Being from California, I thought«Lobster». being in the north east coast area and all. Our waitress corrected us that they were in New Hampshire, not Maine. But from my point of view, it’s closer than going across LA! I did have the yummy twin lobsters. And, it was cheaper than 1 such crustacean at the chain Red Lobster. Very simple food, very simply served, but I really enjoyed my lobsters.

If you want fried seafood in the Keene area, Nicks is the only place to go. It’s fresh and plentiful. I would say that the fried food is their specialty. The other offerings are not so tasty. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is just fine.
