Benny’s is in front of Walmart and is even more successful than ever! Kudos to Benny’s! I love this store, its helpful employees and its easy parking. It gives The mega store competition!!!

I used to hate Benny’s! For real. it used to be a LOT more behind the times as far as accepting credit cards, customer service and understanding, not to mention selection. That being said, now Benny’s is great. It has a nice open floor plan. Always plenty of customer service folks around and the selection has improved 10 fold. I’ve gotten tires done here 2x and was happy both times. The price is really competitive without having to go and sit in a place that smells like rubber for and hour while your car is worked on! The selection has come so far. Other than a lawn mower, bike or tires, I’ve gotten mainly smaller things here when I couldn’t find them elsewhere. This place is «sort of» competition for Wal-mart, but not really. IMHO it’s closer to a mom and pop store and very different from the big box…(which is a good thing.) Don’t cry over the 4 stars – once the place looks modern and current inside and out and maybe pave the parking lot sometime this century and BOOM.5 stars it is.

The fact that this retail merchandiser has managed to stay in business so long with Walmart less than 70 yards away is a miracle and a testimony to the fact that they are doing what their loyal customer following wants. It is a small store geared directly to the beach going tourist community with a small concise but relevant product offering. You have to see for yourself and you will immediately understand why this little David has been so successful next to it’s Goliath next door neighbor.

Amazing experience. Prefer hitting Benny’s all year long. The employees are extremely helpful and attentive, not like the other store around the corner. The often will give you the sale price even after the sale has past! Everyone should support their local Benny’s.

Loved the new McCall’s Candles your selling they are wonderful! It’s nice to see nicer merchandise in a hardware store. My husband surprised me with two candles!

They’re almost always having a tire sale! Tires aside, this is the best place for summer necessities, especially beach chairs, towels, grilling/outdoor party needs. You didn’t think you needed 12 tiki torches, but YOUDID.

This has always been THE spot to go to for our summer needs. The whole front of the store has a fun mix of yard games and a good selection of beach gear. Kid’s games and the camping and fishing stuff have rounded out our trips in the past, but the store also has items for more permanent residents, including patio furniture and things you need to take care of your yard, car, boat, or pool. Selection and prices are good, and I’d rather support a local business when possible.

As long as I’ve been around Westerly(going on 10+ years now) Benny’s has always been a constant. When I need a new battery for my lawn mower or car tires I know where to go. They have an extensive toy selection for my 3 year old. I know that I can purchase coffee for my Keurig & obtain a fishing license in one quick trip. If you need it for around the house(rakes, pool chemicals, grass seed) then stop here first. If you can’t find it their employees can help you navigate the store. They’re located in Dunn’s Corners right in front of the WalMart. If they can survive(& thrive) with their bigger neighbor then you know they must be doing something right. I’ve heard more than one customer tell an employee there that WalMart sent them there cuz WalMart didn’t have the item they needed!

Benny’s — what more can you say? They have been around 70+ years. They carry a variety of merchandise — some high quality, brand name and others that I wouldn’t even consider. The checkouts are 20 years behind in technology, although they do take credit and debit cards. Items are still labeled by hand with prices. Weekly ads are low budget printed on plain newsprint, no 4 color glossy. Usually I search the big stores to find something, then I remember — I’ll try Benny’s. It’s easy in and easy out. People are helpful. Great supply of beach gear in the Westerly store, but no real bargains in this category. Benny’s is a throwback to the old five and ten’s we used to shop at when we were kids. Wal-Mart built their store right behind Benny’s, and Benny’s parking lot is always crowded. Take that, Wal-Mart.

Typically cheaper than the Walmart behemoth behind it and carrying a wider selection of some items like bikes or Rollerblades. The selection is, of course, not as immense in other areas but the service is WAYWAYWAY more helpful then walmart could ever dream. Best to support this local favorite that was here first before it is forced out of business.

Let me put this bluntly: Benny’s is totally optimo. It’s a constant of nature, like the weight of an hydrogen atom or the speed of sound, that if you want to hit the beach in any serious way you need supplies, from totally sweet towels to comfortable folding chairs, large coolers, humongous umbrellas, sunblock, aloe, men’s silky lounge pants, flip flops, soccer balls and bocce sets. Benny’s has a beach bum’s needs covered. The prices are sick, too. My only complaint is no bandanas in stock. I know: totally lame. How else am I supposed to keep the lemon juice I’m trying to squeeze into my hair out of my eyes? Come on, Benny’s! Still and all, I got to say: if you’re in RI and you’re planning to hit the shore, first you should hit up this most excellent store.
