Guillotine Salon & Spa

Just moved into the area and my husband got me a gift certificate for Guillotine Salon & Spa for a pampering service since I’m pregnant. Regarding the actual service (I ended up going with a Facial Massage) it was really nice. Renee did a great job of making me feel comfortable and my face glowed (according to my husband)! As part of the service they also did a moisturizing treatment on hands and feet which I thought was a nice bonus.
My only complaint is the actual room. It was TINY, and faced the street so it was noisy. The windows have some type of wooden curtains that did not serve to block out any noise or much light. The ambiance would’ve been a lot better if the room was darkened and if some effort was put into reducing the outside noise.
Overall though, good experience.

I regularly see Jamie G. She is truly the best. I started going to her about a year ago I had the unfortunate experience of having my hair horribly damaged and colored by my previous stylists. Jamie restored and revived my hair and now I have the most beautiful color. I am so grateful for Jamie and I will never go anywhere else. The salon is spacious and bright surrounded by windows. Convenient parking and just steps away from stores for a lil retail therapy, which every woman loves!!!

Val is the best. She takes her time to make sure it’s done right. I have curly hair and she knows what she doing. I been coming here for years

Guillotine is AMAZING. Lynn keeps my color and style subtle, sophisticated and polished. Her team is incredibly sweet and professional. Nothing beats this salon on a spring day with the windows open, a gentle breeze, great music and wonderful people. I feel pampered the second I walk in the door. With their variety of services, high quality work, and gorgeous ambience, this salon is the best our area has to offer!

I received a massage from Katie today and it was nothing short of amazing! I feel like a million bucks. She listened to all my concerns carefully and tailored my massage to my specific wants and needs. She was extremely professional, kind and very accommodating. Definitely an asset for your location. Never have a gotten a deep tissue massage that actually gave me instant relief. Cannot wait to come back! Thanks Katie, you were awesome! Xo

If you have curly hair, you MUST see Jaime or their curly hair expert, Valerie. The *one* time I saw someone else I was extremely disappointed and have gone back to exclusively only seeing one of them since. Since college, I’ve tried going elsewhere as I don’t even live anywhere near Westfield anymore. However, NO ONE has yet to cut my hair even a fraction of as good as the two of them do.
My only complaint is that a, it’s not closer to my home. B, it’s impossible to get last-​minute appts with either of them and C, I wouldn’t exactly call this a relaxing experience as a result of the volume of clients they serve, but that’s just evidence of it being a great salon.

the salon was very nice and seems very clean and well taken care of, yet i will not be returning… im not thrilled at all. i made an appt. and only one available for my time was amanda roberts and she was not very friendly at all. besides the fact the whole time she was cutting my hair i felt nauseous thinking about how my hair was about to turn out. multiple times i thought about having her just stop half was through. she was rude and was on her phone the whole time… RUDE SERVICE

Sigh. I WANTED the Ouidad specialty SUPER expensive haircut to be my curly hair’s savior. Sadly, it was not– my hair was destroyed by this technique in January of this year.
First visit was the beginning of 2013. Catherine had a lot to work with, so I was pretty satisfied. I went again in the summer of 2013, and that time… the cut was just okay and I walked outside and it frizzed into a beautiful… lion’s mane? I justified the paying of the ridiculous amount for my broke college budget because it was «Such a great cut! Just for curly hair!»
Okay, okay, so I went for a third time in Jan 2014 and this was The End. The end of my dreams for a beautiful Ouidad specialty SUPER expensive haircut. My mid-​back length curly hair was not so much shaped as it was hacked at, but it was thinned. THINNED to the extent that my hair felt incredibly light by the end. It felt TOO light considering the little she had cut off length. When I got home, I pulled it back into a pony tail, and it stuck out of my head like a sad little 2 year old’s ponytail. I cried over my hair, which was thin, flat, lifeless, and no longer had the wild curliness I had tried to tame before. It was completely uneven as well. It looked so bad even my friend who came along with me gently asked, «So…how much did you pay for that haircut?»
It took a solid six months to start to grow out. I will never go back nor will I ever pay that much for a Ouidad specialty SUPER expensive haircut.
I have fine curly hair, but lots of it. Why in heaven’s name she thought it was an excellent idea to hack out the back through that thinning comb is beyond me.
PLEASE think twice before you take the SUPER expensive Ouidad specialty haircut plunge. I can’t believe I spent over 300 bucks on these haircuts. What a waste.

Another great hairstyle with kate guzzie today! And Jess was my colorist. They washed all my gray away! And what a big surprise seeing my friends husband there as well, he was also seeing Kate! And he drive all the way up from Point Pleasant!

Went there for the first time last week because of the high reviews. Just moved from NY to NJ and looking for a local salon. Will never be back again. Terrible haircut. I had to book my former hair salon a day later to fix the mess they made. I spent so much money between the haircut here and the haircut again that I want to get a refund. But I won’t do that. I just won’t go back. The entire experience was awful. Loud, crowded, clicky atmosphere. There is a reason why New Jersey isn’t the fashion capital of the world. These stylists need makeovers and new training. No texturing, style or clean cut was even done. I came in for a simple clean, straight cut and she couldn’t even do that. NEVER AGAIN!

Nice environment and a great price for a nj salon, however it leaves a lot to be desired in regards to the service. I have had my hair cut a few times here and a manicure done once. The manicure held up, but it looked really bad. They also only have one nail tech available at all times, so forget going with friends. The haircuts that I had were ok, but when I went to a different stylist (who was a friend) she asked me where I was getting my haircut because there was no technique in the layering that was done before (at guillotine). On the plus side, they do have coffee and bagels on Saturday mornings in the salon! I should also mention that my husband goes there for his haircuts and loves it. It always looks great on him!

I’ve been a client at Guillotine for a couple of years now, since I first moved to New Jersey, and was surprised to find I hadn’t reviewed them yet. I love my stylist, Jess. She’s a rock star. She knows my (difficult) hair. She makes excellent suggestions. She’s just amazing and a lot of fun. I get compliments on her work constantly and I am very happy with my hair. Lynn, the salon owner, is great — if there is ever a question or issue, she’s accessible and willing to discuss and correct. Tara handles my brows beautifully and is one of the sweetest people I have ever met.
I do see other reviews mentioning their front desk staff. I will say that in the last several months, something changed at their desk and not in a good way. Lynn tells me things will be improving. I really hope so. That’s the only reason this is a four-​star review instead of a five. The salon is beautiful, clean, comfortable, centrally located, and has convenient hours. There is not a lot to complain about, once they work out the kinks at the front desk.

The salon is very nice, but I won’t be back. I came here several times and was frequently ignored by front desk staff. While my stylist was skilled, her unfriendly personality made me uncomfortable. I’ll take my business somewhere else, a shame because I really wanted to like this salon.

Absolutely love this place! I’ve had a lot of stylists over the years I’ve frequented it, but my wife and I both became regulars of Jes D. and never had a bad experience here.
The staff is very pleasant and professional, the whole place is huge and clean, and everyone goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. Sure, you’ll pay more than you will at — say — SuperCuts, but you’ll get a haircut that you actually like.
If there’s anything to be taken away from The Guillotine, it’s that the waiting area is a bit small… but thankfully they don’t usually keep you waiting for long, so it’s a non-​issue.
Even though I’m out in California now, I have every intention of visiting The Guillotine for a haircut every time I’m back in town!

Valerie did my hair last weekend for a wedding and she was wonderful — personable, professional, and did a great job capturing exactly what I wanted my hair to look like. However, my styling took 30 minutes tops and I was charged $ 80. That is just ridiculous.

I really wanted to like this salon, but I won’t be back. The woman who cut my hair was very pleasant, but did not give me the cut I asked for and showed her pictures of. I asked for layers, but got the one-​length style that I was trying to get away from. I only get a cut every 8 months of so, but now I will need to spend the money (again) to get it repaired in a month or so after it grows out a bit. Disappointing.

When I moved to New Jersey, I was so scared to get my hair done (you know the stereotype — big, frizzy, highlighted). I went to the Guillotine on a recommendation, and I have been going ever since (5 years!)
I get my hair done by Katherine — she is the best stylisy/​colorist I have ever gone to. I don’t even have to tell her what I want, she just does her magic and I love it every single time. She did an ombré on my hair last fall and I have gotten hundreds of compliments on it. Definitely worth the money! I now live in Northern NJ, and I drive the 45 minutes here to get my hair done.
I have also gotten trims/​updos for weddings by other stylists here when Katherine was unavailable — they are all pretty good. Only once was I not a huge fan of my updo.

After moving to NJ, I knew I had to find a new stylist but was reluctant– I had been going to the same girl since I was 14 so it was scary to have to find someone new. A colleague of mine’s wife works at Guillotine so I decided to check it out. I was happy I did! Nancy was my stylist, and she was wonderful– did a full consult each time I went in and did a great job each time on the cut and color (I even tried ombré highlights and they looked great). The salon is clean and cute (lots of windows and looks out over adorable Westfield), and everyone there was friendly. I also never had to wait too long for my appointment time. So happy to have found this place!

Being new to the area, I was in search of a salon that I could trust with my hair and I’m extremely satisfied with my decision to go to Guillotine. It’s easy to find (right above Gap Kids in downtown Westfield) and I loved the openness of the 2^nd story salon. It was a beautiful day when I went and some of the windows were opened to allow fresh air to be let in.
The staff is very friendly and make you feel welcomed and comfortable. My stylist was Catherine and, like the previous reviewer, I felt she was perfect for my hair type which is curly. Although I did not get the Ouidad technique done, Catherine still gave me a wonderful cut that took a lot of weight off my hair but still kept it fairly long.
Needless to say, I couldn’t be happier and I’ll definitely be returning as a regular customer!
