Got a BBQ pork sandwich and spring rolls this week. The rolls are always freshly made and the peanut dipping sauce excellent. Great people too! Always delicious here.

I’ve come here many times before and was going to make this my go to place for fresh bread because it’s close to me and it’s always been fresh when I got it. I read the review about reheated bread and wasn’t sure because it never happened to me. Then I order 20 plain baguettes. They only had 19. It was hot. Then we tried to make sandwiches and realized they were all old and had just been reheated. Trust me, I know old bread when I see it. I always buy plain bread and sometimes if I don’t wrap it tight enough it will be all hard. Then I would try to steam it again and yet they hardened really fast. This was just like that. I called and complained and the lady said she didn’t know I liked it soft so she heated it twice so it would remain crunchy later. I don’t know if this is true. I just know old bread when I see it, eat it, or try to make sandwiches with it. It’s all shriveled and very brittle and just breaks apart when you open it to put fillings in. If you’re going to buy a lot, make sure to say that you want fresh, soft bread. The soft fresh bread was quite good. Not likely to cut the roof of your mouth. As for me, I’m not coming back. I don’t like to be swindled.

I’ve come here several times after a trip to the dog beach and I’ve never been disappointed. I always get the combination phở. I’ve never seen any of the hygiene issues that others have mentioned in over a dozen visits. One thing that keeps me coming back is that I can park right next to the front door, open all the car windows and let our dog sleep off her dog beach hangover while the rest of us keep an eye on the car while getting our phở fix.

We bought two baguettes and waited and waited… but when we were handed a bag of hot hot bread, we walked away happy and satisfied… that is until we got home and realized we were tricked! I thought they had baked the baguettes fresh, but NO, ITWASREHEATEDOLDBREAD! I still can’t believed we were tricked! And what’s more, it tasted like two day old bread… stale and rubbery on the inside. Never again. Noodle soups, yes… baguette, he’ll no! Kinda pathetic since the place is called ABC Baguette.

I really like the combination(beef) phở bowl. Decently priced, and the owner is really nice! Don’t forget to bring cash, because it’s cash only. There’s an ATM in the liquor store next door, but that’s always a rip off.

Being an avid coffee drinker I have my daily fixation from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. Some mornings I like to venture off from my beloved Coffee Bean just to support those ma n pap shops, but might I say this time was an unpleasant surprise. I was greeted with a nice smile once I entered their bakery restaurant not knowing what would shock me in the upcoming few seconds. I ordered a single Café Sua Da which cost me $ 2. When I received my Expresso over ice, first thing I thought of was this lady must be playing tricks on me. I couldn’t believe I just paid two dollars for somthing that wasnt even filled to the top and it was an 8oz! Now I am writing this and I am in need of coffee. BOOO for ABC!

So… lets start off with the history 1. they had a bunch of rats in the kitchen… 2. i accidentally stepped on a cockroach while in there… 3. they actually got an F rating for the first time they opened(then it went to D… and slowly to a C… i havent checked lately… whats the point!!! so thats it for the history lol its one of those places where… the lower the rating… the better the food tastes… well i wonder what they put in their special sauce ! i dont recommend it… if you like dirty places… be my guest ! otherwise…making your own sandwiches from scratch might taste better…

I’ve been here four times. I try my best to support mom and pop places… and i’m always willing to give them a few chances before turning away completely. Boy is this place bad. The entrees are terrible – i’ve had the curry, phở, and the bun rieu. It could not be more bland. I was ready to give up on this place, but the owner was so friendly, I came back one last time. Afterall, they were a sandwich place, and I was a bit foolish to order anything but. The sandwiches are almost as bad. The meat has an odd taste to it. You can really tell it’s been sitting outside for a while, and isn’t fresh at all. The pâté is worse than Lee’s. It’s very grainy and very pungent. And beware, they use a truckload of mayo. There isn’t a redeeming quality to this place… okay, maybe there’s one thing – they have a soda fountain and allow refills. I should have known better – the only people ever there were the family members. If there are any doubts about whether or not you should give this place a chance, it would be an emphatic«no!» If you need any further reason, I’m sure it would be for your health. Rodent infestations? Shut down 5 times in 2007 alone???

Their coffee has a lovely distinct taste to it and its taste SOOO much better than Lee’s.(Lee’s is too commercialized) I bought a few sandiwches today and they even include a plastic packet of a ABCBAGUETTE tooth pick, napkins, AND a piece of DoubleMint gum!!! That’s what ya call customer serivce! :)

I’ve seen this joint on Goldenwest for a few years, but it was tonight when I decided to allow it to fill my banh mi craving. I was surprised that it wasn’t already reviewed – seems like it’d be a pretty mainstream place. And I can’t be sure, but I thought I’d seen other ABC Baguettes before. Anyway, it’s in a teeny little strip mall with a Mexican taco place and a military recruiting office. The parking lot was deserted, as this was the eve before Memorial Day weekend. There was a guy availing himself to the pleasant outdoor seating area in front of the establishment, but other than him, I was the only customer. The inside looked pretty new and relatively clean, save for a few flies buzzing about. Looked like they had their own bakery so there were baguettes and pastries still hanging around. After perusing their rather extensive menu(phở and bun coming June of ’07, in addition to all the sandwiches) I ordered their #20 Special Combo – the Vietnamese Mystery Meat combo, the sandwich that I tend to judge all the banh mi joints by :) A teenage boy took my order and rang me up, and a nice smiling lady who looked like his mother assembled my sandwich. I got it home and dug in: the bread seemed a tad stale, a little tough and chewy, but it wasn’t too bad. I’m used to the Lee’s bread shredding the insides of my mouth like Cap’n Crunch anyway. It was overstuffed compared to the ever-shrinking contents of a Lee’s sandwich, so that was a nice surprise. In addition to the usual Vietnamese cold cuts and pickled veggies, there was a healthy schmear of pâté, large spears of cucumber, and some bbq pork. They sure sprinkled a lot of pepper on it, and the vinagrette-like dressing on it made the sandwich a tad«wet,» but overall, a satisfying experience. A better value than Lee’s, since the more generously stuffed sandwich was $ 2.50 – what is that, like 50 cents less than the Lee’s #11? I haven’t been there in a while so I don’t know what their prices are like now, but I seem to recall it being like $ 2.95 last time. Anyhoo, I need to spread my banh mi horizons in a major way, and this is a step. Really gotta try that Che Cali place soon.
