How often do you remember the food you ate at a place 6 months ago? Given the terrific food scene in Denver, I must admit that overtime the memory of all the fantastic meals I’ve eaten fades. I visited the Cheeky Monk of Broomfield back in the summer of 2014. I still taste the amazing rich broth in Provencale mussels with yummy Belgian french fries. I got a little nibble of my boyfriend’s burger and it was delicious. Quite impressive beer selection. Oh well, by the time I got to post this review the place is already closed. But luckily, the one in Lakewood is still in business.

So sad! This location is now closed forever! There is a sign on the door stating the location is out of business and from what we could tell, there is not much left inside. Other locations in Denver are apparently still open.

I was stoked to go to Cheeky Monk for some mussels. I was fairly disappointed in my meal. I got the bacon and Gorgonzola mussels. A lot of the shells were broken, and were mixed with the mussel, so it made for a really crunchy meal. I ordered a seasonal sampler of beer, and though the beer was good, I thought it was pricey at $ 12. The reasons for 3 stars: Service was great. Ambiance was great. Hummus was great!

I have found my new favorite local pub. Love how convenient the location is to my home and the outdoor shopping center at the Orchard. The selection of beer and wine are outrageous. The price is perfect and not extremely expensive. I tried the wit beer and was very similar to a blue moon. It would make it even more delicious with a slice of orange in it. The most unique part about this pub is that every beer has it’s very own type of glass. The food was such an interesting selection and has a wide variety. Medium sized menu from starters to entrees. The fried pickles for a starter have the most interesting type of breading. The taste of dill spice were spectacular along with the sauce on the side. For my main entrée I has the crouche madre with turkey, Gouda, and an egg. The sourdough bread was grilled to perfection. The sandwich melts in your mouth. This is an open faces sandwich where the cheese and egg are on top of the sandwich. The fries were cooked to perfection and not overly salted. Everything was amazing as everyone at my table enjoyed every last piece of food on their plate. A new favorite right down the street.

After spending entirely too much time at REI, the Cheeky Monk was one of the few restaurants at Orchard that was still open at 9:30p(kinda sad, right?). So Cheeky Monk it was! We were greeted by, perhaps, the friendliest of bartenders. He was great! We had questions about certain beers and he answered them honestly and happily… I realize that’s his job… but you can’t always find that nowadays. He also offered to let us sample a few different things before buying a glass of something. Again, standard procedure in most places, but appreciated all the same! After ordering a couple beers(which we were both very pleased with), we got some food — I ordered the Habanero Shroom Avocado burger and the boy got fish and chips. Both were AWESOME! My burger was perfectly cooked, our fries were hot, his fish was not greasy at all… it was lovely! We were both famished and cleared our plates. Rather, I ate what I could and the boy finished his plate and mine ;) I’m quickly becoming a big fan of the Cheeky Monk. Loved it!
