Basic place, no(or little) frills but good enough to satisfy a craving. Bagels are made fresh daily — I have a habit of looking for the boiler and the accompanying bagel oven — and the staff is pleasant enough. My egg bagel with lox was just fine, though my friend’s jalapeño cream cheese wasn’t spicy at all. Coffee: meh. I wouldn’t have a problem returning. However, if another bagel shop was to open nearby, the threat of competition might inspire Bagel Maven to make some minor(though necessary) improvements.

Don’t be fooled by the name, if you are looking for authentic bagels do not come here. The staff claims that these bagels are baked fresh on premise every morning. This is plainly untrue, I once stopped by early in the morning, hoping to get a fresh bagel, and saw a van from Village bagels backed up to the back door. I have not gotten a warm fresh bagel here once, since this store changed management. The bagels have a cakey consistency, and are often stale. It’s a shame, because under the original management, this store had the best bagels in town. Westport is plainly in need of an authentic bagel bakery.

I live in Queens, many bagel shops to choose from and I had a whole wheat everything bagel on Tuesday from the Brooklyn Bagel shop. Good stuff! On Friday I was in Westport and Unilocaled for a bagel shop. Not much out there. The Bagel Maven has the most hype. The bagels are soft, fresh, not a 5 but a solid 4. The cream cheese lacked flavor and each of the five bagels must have had two teaspoons of cream cheese on the inside, aka, «where’s the cream cheese?» There is either room for a new bagel shop in Westport or The Bagel Maven needs to step its game up.

Oh wow. I love the bagels here. They have a nice variety of fresh bagels from weird dyed rainbow bagels to the standard poppy and sesame bagels. Chewy and with a nice heft these bagels are great. I usually get the egg or the everything bagel.

The Bagel Maven, is one of the many Bagel places in CT. So, what makes this place different? To be honest, I would pass by this shop if I wasn’t told by a friend about ‘The Bagel Maven,’ «It’s a great Bagel spot in Westport CT you should try out!» was what he said. The interior is simple, not as fancy as you expect when you think about Westport CT. And you are here to experience some good bagels, not to pick out the interior for your kitchen. The Bagels are freshly made, and they have a great variety: jalapeño cheese, egg bagel, rainbow colored bagel, plain, spinach bagel and more to name. You can buy them individually, and they give you freezer bags, so you can stock up some delicious bagels at the pad. Every time I go, I get a dozen, which is 13 at ‘Maven,’ and I enjoy a bagel with lox, and cream cheese… AWEMAZING!!! Swing by ‘The Bagel Maven’ if you are in the area… you won’t regret it!
