This sketchy guy Derek came and talked to me while I was working in my yard. My husband and I politely but firmly told him we would«think about» his offer and he could leave the quote but DIDNOT sign any contract to start service. We are not interested in spending extra money right now, but were trying to be polite. What do you know? The next day we get a «welcome to Scotts lawn care» letter in our mailbox which stated that our lawn care would start soon. Very underhanded business practice. Stay away from the Rhode Island branch of Scotts at least. Now I have to waste my valuable time and contact Scotts to complain and tell them to stay the hell off my lawn. So far they have been«temporarily out of service» at the number they listed on my welcome letter. This reeks of a scam.

Well to be fair, Scott’s has not done any work for me yet though I gave them the job .I must say that as a former Realtor I am a hard critic only because, if I told you I was going to do something, I do it, at the very least I call if I can’t .Service had always been my middle name, so I expect people to be somewhat the same. Scott’s called me around 8.30pm at night, I had dismissed doing business with Scott’s a few days earlier because they were telling me I had to have 6 treatments when I really only wanted 5 .So I get this call and tells me he had been at my house days ago(I had asked to be there when he came) Well he quoted me a good price and I accepted thinking he was the Lawn Doctor. I only found out I was dealing with Scott’s when I used the caller id number .Well so I let it go, but I did ask him if I bought a couple of bags of soil if he would just dump it in a hole where a maple tree had once stood .It appears every year I fill that hole and every year I add 2 bags as the ground sinks .The guy from Scott said he would be down in the pm to do it for me, it would take a couple of minutes .When he didn’t come I called and left a message, he didn’t call back. Tried again next day, no call back .So I tackled the hole myself with great difficulty because I have a muscle problem .I called Scott’s and left a message that I wasn’t going to use them. About 10 minutes later the call came, he was very apologetic took full responsibility, but I decided to move on .When I don’t get what was promised to me a very minor issue, I wondered if I had a big issue with Scott’s how would they handle it .I have my principles and so judge other people as hard as I do myself when I drop the ball. That’s me, you judge how you would feel, as I cross Scott’s off my list

Scott’s does a terrible job in controlling weeds and servicing the lawn and landscaping. The service guy spends 10 – 15 minutes, tops, and that’s it. Poor quality, poor service, poor results. Use a different service.

Scott’s called me to see how we could fix this situation. We played telephone tag a bit(actually, he was kind enough to call me back a couple of times as I kept forgetting to return his call). He agreed that this has been a «unique» year with the drought, water bans, etc. He also acknowledged that in my situation, their customer service was a bit lax(in that when I called to cancel, the woman simply said«OK» and sent me on my way). He offered to come out and reseed and examine the lawn to make up for the bad experience. That’s all I can ask and, hopefully, my lawn will be happy and healthy again. I appreciated his approach to customer service, to his honesty, and in trying to make a customer happy(which I am). :-)
