Get the chicken tenders with honey mustard and the black beans. Keep it simple, so delicious! Love the black beans! Guava juice is also good.

My friend loves this place but I don’t quite get it. If you want great rotisserie chicken go next door to Pollo Rico, and if you want great fried chicken go over to Popeyes. I found their chicken somewhat dry.

The chicken doesn’t taste like it used to taste before I was there last week. I order 20 pieces of chicken one order of coleslaw and tortillas. These place never have chicken breast every time I go there like around 4 or 5 pm they say they don’t have anymore. The $ 4.29 coleslaw was very nasty and salty I couldn’t eat it I had to throw it away I was too tire to go back to the place and return it. Some of the tortillas I bought were hard as rock. So I ended up just eating the chicken only. I will not go back to this location anymore I think I will go to the one in Langley Park location. By the way if you order some food to go make sure you ask for napkins they don’t give you napkins at all they are cheap in napkins. Make sure you get everything because you’re paying money for it. After the renovation of the place they don’t have the little salad bar anymore it sucks now.

The colorful building, the catchy sign and the rumble in our bellies had us stray from our usual Latin chicken fare to try Pollo Campero. Apparently this is a chain; we didn’t know. It had all the feel of a fast food place, and then it proved that it was — they got our order wrong. We asked for black beans and got Campero beans instead. No big deal. The Peruvian chicken was ok and had a nice citrus taste. But sorry PC, you’re stacked against a lot of Latin chicken joints in this area. For the same price we could(and usually do) get a whole chicken and more(and bigger and tastier) sides at El Pollo Rico.

I’m sorry Pollo Campero. We tried you some years ago, weren’t too impressed, but decided to give you one more try. The chicken is not super crispy, and we expected that, but the crust was falling off one of the chicken breasts, so not good. Instead of a chicken thigh we got a chicken leg, not the worst problem in this world, but still. My husband’s side of yucca was just a few unspectacular pieces. What was most surprising to me was my side of Cole slaw was so salty it was inedible, and I like salty foods. Cole slaw that’s bland or blah, sure, but too salty to eat? So our search for really good fried chicken(like we need fried foods, hah) continues.

The place was better before it was renovated. They had awesome condiments and now, they’re not there anymore because I always used to put jalapeños on my chicken. The restaurant was pretty good though. I’ll give credit on that. The chicken and fries were excellent.

Fried chicken is pretty good. It’s fried chicken — almost like Roy Rogers chicken. I got the 2 chicken meal with side of Yucca fries and tortilla. Tortilla comes out individually packed in plastic bag and hot. Yucca fries were soft. Best if you eat them before they cool. I came here on Saturday afternoon so parking was a little bit of an issue. Kind of confusing where to turn to get into the parking lot. Lots of surrounding traffic. Inside looks like a typical fast food restaurant. They bring the food to you and when you are done eating, you just get up and leave. They clean the tables for you.

Prices too high, for very small chicken pieces, seem frog legs instead of chicken. There is nothing good in that place and overpricing. I’m not recommend at all.

Their fried yuca is exquisite!!! Fried chicken is to die for. I went in for fried chicken with a side of yuca and sweet plantain!!! Most awesome experience at a fast food rest.

Super friendly and helpful staff! They even allowed me to taste the black beans and rice before purchasing. Great pricing! Large portions. Given the price(really, really inexpensive), I highly recommend when you’re on the go and need food quickly.

Got Pollo Campero to celebrate the Breaking Bad final part of the last season starting up. I was actually planning to go somewhere else– which turned out to be closed on Sunday. Pollo campero is supposed to be the«fast food» of latin chicken and sides– but I would equate it to how Chik-fil-a is fast food. It’s REALLY good. The chicken is absolutely delicious, tender, flavorful. I mean– it’s some damn good chicken. We got the rice and beans too which was very flavorful. Everyone was commenting on it. For mass produced world wide chicken– this place is great. Do you know there are Pollo Camperos in Spain, Shanghai, El Salvador? Gotta try other stuff here. This puts popeyes, KFC, and all other fast food fried chicken to shame! The one thing I wasn’t a fan of was their pink mayonaisse based spicy sauce. They serve it with the Yucca — I got some for the chicken. There was just a little something funky about it. Other than that, all was good!

Surprised that there are any negatives at all. I find Pollo Campero to be excellent in every respect. The food is very fresh tasting. Admittedly, I always get the same thing, haven’t ventured much, I get the chicken bowl with a couple of pieces if chicken to take home. I leave biscuits and fries alone wherever I go, I am no judge. The chicken salad bowl has ample portion, excellent rice, salsa, beans, parsley with fresh lime… excellent and hot. I never fail to be impressed by the staff in this place and clue a guest when we first come in. see what you notice, I say. Invariably, the person notices that the staff is very industrious, everybody is busy serving and cooking, yet all manage to be super attentive and friendly. Invariably, somebody is cleaning the windows and other hard to each areas. I see people in the back changing their gloves, always using tongs while handling the food, no shortcuts. Everybody is smiling says ‘thank you for coming’, the manager is ever present. That’s why I wonder about complaints, I can’t believe he wouldn’t’ make something good out of a complaint. I avoid fast food chains, but eating a couple of dozen times at Pollo Campero makes me want to try the other South American chicken places in and around Wheaton and Arlington. Fresh tasting, clean and getting-cleaner, trumps most things. Try PC, you, ll like it.

BEWARE, not all of the dishes taste like back home! Even the beans taste a little off; probably due to the inferior produce quality in the US. The deserts(especially the flan) are excellent and well worth the visit alone. Plus, prices are reasonable and the portions are large The atmosphere is very quaint with a «back home» style table arrangement and ceiling fans. What more could I ask for?

After driving by Pollo Campero for years, I decided to get some take out chicken from there for my dinner around 5pm on a weekday. I ordered the ½ grilled chicken dinner with campero beans, a dinner roll(rather than corn tortilla), and a flan. The counter guy discovered that they were out of campero beans and asked if I’d be ok with black beans and rice. When I got home after a short drive and opened the box, i was really disappointed. The grilled chicken was nasty. The skin was black and the exposed meat was hard and dark brown. They’d obviously dropped the chicken in the deep fryer to warm it up after I ordered. I tore the breast apart and found it to be dry and tasteless. The leg meat was slightly moister, but not much flavor at all. The black beans and rice were sticky and too dry, and largely tasteless as well. The roll, a typical white yeast bread dinner roll that comes in those tear apart trays, was hard and dry. The flan was not dry, but had an odd texture. Overall, a terrible meal. I’ll never go back there again.

Really a review for a chain restaurant… YES, it is that good at this location(I have not tried any other location). I have eaten at this location several times and if I am hungry for fried or grilled chicken and pressed for time this is my favorite place. The fried chicken is very flavorful and always served warm(not had a bad experience yet); the beans side dish are well prepared and it was served with flour tortillas; also I recommend trying the yucan fries.

I finally was able to try the«pollo» with all the hype. Well, all that hype left much to be desired at this place. Basically this is a fast food chain, much like a Popeyes, actually if I’m going to indulge in calories, I’ll have Popeyes, thank you very much. :) First of all one of my biggest grips is this. If a business is going to be operating in the US of A, the cashiers at least need to have some knowledge of the English language, this is America after all, right? I had a very hard time communicating with the cashier about what I wanted. Finally, I resulted to my very poor Spanish, which seemed to work. Embarrassingly enough though I sorta of lost it when I asked her what the prize was for the kids meal? She thought I was saying fries and kept putting more fries on the plates and charging me for them. It was almost like an episode of the George Lopez sitcom. Get this she gave me two schedules for the World Cup, yeah, thanks lady my 5 yr old is really gonna read that and be super excited about his«prize» I got the 2 piece fried chicken meal, nothing to write home about at all. Again, I’ll have my Popeyes thank you. I will give Pollo Campero this, their yuca was really good, don’t know if it was because they were just putting out a fresh batch or not. My husband ordered a grilled chicken sandwhich which again looked like something you would get anywhere and he said it had a nice grilled flavor. My boys both got the drumstick kids meal which they seemed to enjoy, they were both very hungry. Also, every soda in the place was FLAT, by this time I just wanted to eat and get outta here. It’s a shame, because I had such high hopes and expectations. Finally, I will not go out of my way to go to Pollo Campero, it just was not that good.

My kids love it. It is a fried food fest. But the chicken is flavorful, you can get well-prepared beans on the side with tortillas, and everybody is happy. Service is quick and they are always running some sort of promotion for kids — a free ballon, or frisbee, or hat. Whatever. As long as the kids are happy.

We had a late lunch here today — my first experience ever at a Pollo Campero. Even though it was late in the afternoon — about 2:30 pm — there were quite a few people in here ordering and eating. My work colleague and I both ordered the grilled Chicken Burrito, with pulled chicken, rice, beans, and cheese. For some reason, they were also offering some special where you got a grilled chicken sandwich with your meal — we decided to accept that as well. I opted for the Lemonade. The Burrito is huge! And piquant! There is also a salsa bar — you can get small soufflé cups of green or red salsa — both of which are lightly spicy — and sliced jalapenos. I got some of the green and red salsas — I liked the red the best — a bit spicier! I added salsa to the end of my Burrito as I was munching through it. The sandwich was also very good — the grilled chicken made for a very lean sandwich — with lettuce and a slice of tomato. The chicken was lightly dusted with a bit of a tasty and fragrant seasoning.

If you want the best twice-fried chicken in the area, the best is going to be Bön Chon Chicken in Alexandria, near Annandale. But you have to wait 30 – 40 minutes for them to cook it. So Pollo Campero is a reasonable compromise. The fried chicken is very crispy, but not burnt. The meat tasted fairly fresh, at least for a fast food place. Compared to Bön Chon chicken, where the grease doesn’t make you feel sick, Pollo Campero’s oil does make you slightly qweasy, but not nearly as bad as say, a KFC. I also ordered the fries and fried plantains. Both were okay. I even tried the rice pudding dessert, which was okay. I did not try the rotisserie chicken. If I had to choose between KFC, Popeyes and Pollo Campero, Pollo Campero wins hands down. If I wanted the best friend chicken though, Bön Chon beats all them. But this is a good place to go if you’re in a rush. I was there around 9pm on Saturday so I don’t know if they still have long lines. The neighborhood isn’t the friendliest place. The cashiers were all very friendly, but I had a hard time understanding them due to the strong accents.
