I’m not in this area often, but when I am and want easy, cute things at reasonable prices, this place is A-OK. It’s like TJ Maxx but the quality/name brands are a little nicer.

I’m definitely not a fan of TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and even in some cases… Ross. This place, I AM a fan of! You don’t have to spend a lot of time searching through things here. For the most part, everything is well organized and makes shopping easy. The clothes seem nice, however I have never found much here… I’ve only wandered through the shoe section, and home section as well. I love the accessories section here — great jewelery, purses, sunglasses, etc. at reasonable prices!!! Oh, and I should mention name brands such as Betsey Johnson, Kenneth Cole, Steve Madden, and Michael Kors. I’ve had coupons for this place, so I tend to go when I have a coupon on top of their sale price, for instance I went for a new wallet yesterday — I got a Kenneth Cole Wallet, Betsey Johnson Infinity Scarf, Steve Madden gloves, and a Betsey Johnson Winter headband for $ 43!!! I saw the same Infinity Scarf online for about $ 20, I got it for $ 11. I’m also not big on spending a lot for sun glasses — they get scratched, I sit on them, whatever… great name brands for reasonable prices. I love this place! I will say the cashiers here really act like they hate their job… but as long as I walk out happy, it’s all good.

I enjoy going to Steinmart, it usually has exactly what I’m looking for when it comes to work clothes or dresses. It’s extremely unfortunate I have to give only 2 stars because their customer service is by far the worst I’ve ever seen. Sometimes I dread going in there for that reason alone. I went in Steinmart this past week. I quickly found what I was looking for but the tag was on the floor for the dress I wanted. I picked up the tag and went to go pay for the dress… I explained to the clerk what happened– she gave me a nasty look and said I’d have to go back and get another dress off the rack. I figured that was understandable but she looked at me like I was a thief. I quickly ran back to the section and grabbed a different dress for the tag. When I came back to the register(within 1 min), the cashier was gone picking up garbage complaining to other coworkers about her having to work. When I looked at the old cashier I asked if I needed to move to a different line and she said yes. Then another cashier said I can take you over here. I had to pick up all my stuff and move. I explained to the cashier about the tags and she said it was no big deal at all. I’m so mad at the 1st cashier, I’m sorry you hate your life or what you do but you need to get a better attitude. This made me so mad I’m still thinking about contacting the management of Steinmart.

I’ve generally been pretty happy with my purchases from Stein Mart in the past. If you’re willing to spend some time searching, you can find some cute things at pretty reasonable prices. However, they only get two stars from me for their atrocious customer service. Every time I’ve had to deal with one of their sale associates, I’ve been spoken to in a snippy tone, as if I’m greatly troubling them by asking them to simply do their jobs. Today, when attempting to return something, I was told to «do the math»(direct quote) when I asked for clarification on the amount that would be credited to my card. Sorry, but that’s not acceptable customer service in my book.

As you might know there are not many Steinmarts in the area! This is the only one I know of! Today I was asked if I wanted to open their charge account. So I said, why not?! Upon getting accepted the person checking me out said she’d scan all their different coupons they had available. Great! She ended up saving me a ton more money! Since I got accepted I would take a look back at the store and get some more stuff! So she offered to me that she’d do the same thing for me! Well alright! Very cool! I love saving money! I got so much stuff for around $ 75! And I LOVE my cool new toss pillow($ 7!!!) even though Hubby doesn’t– OHWELL!

I couldn’t believe that there wasn’t a Steinmart in Chicago when I first moved here from KC. I don’t agree with the other Unilocalers. They decent Clothing for the early 30’s chick. a lot of brands that you’d find out of Macys or even some out of Bloomingdale’s are also in here. I saw one item online for $ 50 online yet it was $ 7 on clearence in Steinmart last week. I bought a few nine west shirts for about $ 7 with coupons as well as a few SEVEN brand tops for $ 10. I actually love their clothing. Their men clothing are great as well. I never purchase their shoes however they have some things that are for even the choosy person. It’s well worth me driving the 20 miles.

I don’t shop here for clothes.. . However I do shop here for home décor and other home ware items. I’ve found many items here for the house here. I would agree with Mary J. That Steinmart is like an upscale TJMaxx. This is not a store I make a regular habit of visiting, but I do like to go in every once in awhile to see if there is a hidden treasure I can find. All in all, I recommend you going into Steinmart from time-to-time yourself to see what hidden treasures you can find yourself.

I agree, my Mom loves this store for clothes. Occasionally one can find a great deal on shoes/boots but the selection is limited. Watch for the coupons in the Sunday paper and you’ll get a much better price.

UPDATE: They eliminated the chidren’s clothing from this store! They still carry some nice toys, like Melissa and Doug puzzles and some puppets. This store is kind of like an upscale TJ Maxx, without the overcrowding of the racks. I visited this store which is located in a strip mall near Whole Foods, and was pleasantly surprised. There were plenty of employees around to help me and they all were in a good mood! Eureka! The store is not too big and everything is easy to find. It reminds me of the«old fashioned» department stores, the ones before the chains started. This one carries clothing, accessories, home furnishings, linens and shoes. All of the stuff is good quality brand name merchandise marked down for reasons I couldn’t find when I checked it out. I’ve purchased sunglasses, children’s apparel, women’s apparel, men’s apparel and linens here. If you’re looking for a specific item, this is not the place to go as the merchandise changes frequently. On Fridays they give«members» an extra 20% off. You become a member by filling out a for and getting a card to put in you wallet that you show when you shop. I really like the size of this store. I recently had to go with a toddler and no stroller and it wasn’t so huge that I was paranoid about where he was(usually hiding in the clothing racks). You can also zip through in minimal time since each area isn’t that big. You should check this place out! You never know what you are going to find here!
