Been here a few times and was pleasantly surprised with how much I love the rolls here. I say I’m surprised because favorite sushi joint is in Delray Beach FL and wasn’t expecting to find one that I fancied more than one near the ocean especially in Wheaton IL. Both times I have been here there were only a few other guests so it was perfect for sitting down and having a conversation over drinks and amazing rolls and enjoy being in the moment without lots of noise. The first time I was here I had the seared tuna fillet served with miso blanc sauce, drizzled with wasabi-edamame purée and boyfriend had the grilled chilean sea bass with chili garlic-soy sauce, topped with marinated seaweed, served with grilled asparagus and both were amazing. The second time I came here we had the Sushi Mono and the Hawaiian Kiss. Both were amazing but the Hawaiian kiss had a special kick to it and I couldn’t get enough! I will definitely be going back and so happy it’s only 5 minutes from my house.

I just got off the phone trying to place a take out order which is the same order that my girlfriends and I place once a month and they decided to upcharge $ 3 to get 2 california rolls instead of 1 california and one shrimp. I stated that this never happens when we eat in. She said she had to charge me and I said it was ridiculous and do I have to start taking my business elsewhere. Her response: Yes and hung up. No wonder the place is always empty. Such POOR customer service! Order Koi instead!

We just moved to West Chicago and have been looking for a suitable replacement to Sushi Ya in Schaumburg — and I’m happy to say we found it. We tried a variety of rolls and everything was great. My favorite was the King Kong, and I would recommend the spicy tuna spring rolls for an appetizer. We always takeout, so I can’t comment on the service, but it did look really nice and professional inside.

Went a month or so ago… this time when we went we noticed they had changed the rolls a bit… we preferred them the way they used to be. We didn’t care for the strong drizzled sauce that was on them this time around. Took away from the flavor of the rolls(deep ocean) I still love the lunch Bento box. $ 12.00 for soup and 3 rolls… a great deal… but it has been a bit. Here’s hoping that has not changed. I always hope they stay afloat… we used to love to go here for birthdays… just strayed a bit recently. We will need to go back and try it again in the new year.

As some other people have mentioned briefly, I am surprised by the amount of 4 – 5 star reviews for this place. I had high hopes for this spot when I walked in for lunch, especially since the decoration and style of the restaurant looked really nice and classy/trendy. Sadly, I cannot give a good review just based off good décor and good service(but mind you, there was only two other groups of two when we walked in, that could change depending on how many people are eating). The pros: Far and few between. The service we got was good and timely, so that is a plus. The style of the restaurant was exotic and welcoming. It looked like an upper class sushi joint. My hot green tea was good, but was in a tea bag… usually sushi places will brew loose leaf tea if you order green, but this tasted fine so I digress. The pros end here. The Cons: The food was NOT good. It had very nice presentation, but after sampling every single roll we got, I quickly noticed that nothing actually tasted good. I was so unimpressed. We got 4 rolls. I noticed that every single one of them had this snow crab filler in it that literally tasted like I had gone to Jewel and gotten a crab salad stuffed into all of the rolls. Disappointing! How is it that 4 rolls on the menu literally had no taste to them? Even with all the sauces, avocado, fish eggs, tuna, etc. there was just no good flavor. The wasabi was also bad… you had to use tons of it just to get some zing. For someone who loves wasabi and spicy food, that is a huge letdown. If your sushi doesn’t taste good, the wasabi better be good enough to hide it! That being said, I did not order any sashimi this round, so perhaps that tastes better? I’m not really willing to try it though! The rolls were ridiculously priced…$ 16 – 17 per roll? What? Is this downtown Chicago? No. It’s not. Plenty of other sushi shops in the burbs are not pricing their rolls that high and they taste much better! If you are going to charge that much, the rolls better taste amazing. If you are looking for a place to drink in downtown Wheaton, this could possibly be your place. They do have specials every day(like half off drinks). Come on guys… Wok n’ Fire has better sushi than Sushi Mono! That is saying something, because Wok n’ Fire sushi isn’t super stellar either, but at least the prices are better there and the flavor is good.

I have eaten in as well as taken out. Service can be a bit slow eating in, so don’t go if you’re in a hurry. I only called in take out once, and didn’t know what to expect time-wise, but was only 15 – 20 minutes, which was just fine as I was driving home from work. I had also asked for extra eel sauce on the side. After hanging up, I had a call right back. The(younger-sounding, very polite) girl who had taken my order had forgotten to mention that the extra sauce was I think $ 0.75 cents extra, and just wanted to make sure I was okay with that. Lots of places would just charge you and not think twice. When eating in, I have typically gotten the deal where you pick three rolls(some basic, some specialty, depending which option you choose), soup, and salad — and have split with whoever I’m dining with. Enough food for me, and half the price — win! That plus a cocktail or two and it’s a nice evening out. My husband doesn’t eat sushi though, but has gotten appetizers like the steak wrapped asparagus, which were very tasty. All the specialty rolls I’ve had have been very good. I wasn’t all that impressed with the spicy tuna roll, which you’d think would be pretty simple as it’s a staple at all sushi restaurants(although I’m no sushi chef…). Like most sushi places, I find it to be a tad on the pricey side. I’d definitely go back though.

Really enjoyed our visit here, my only issue is that the service was a bit slow so since we were seeing a show after we asked for our bill while we were still eating. But they service staff was kind and kept our waters filled so the speed at which the dishes arrived wasn’t that big an issue with me. The décor is cute and simple, lots of tables available for patrons and a bar that looked nice. The menu was interesting and had a lot of yummy options. Some your run of the milk sushi options and others that are specialty rolls. We had the Dynamite roll and Crab Ragoon for appitizers, both were very good. The Crab Ragoon was good, not spectacular. The Dynamite roll on the other hand, amazing, beautifully presented and intriguing flavors. For the main course I got the King Kong roll and Sweet Potato roll, both were delicious, my companion had the Blue Ocean(or something like that) which was also delicious. Both were covered in sauce but it wasn’t to heavy, I didn’t feel like they were using the sauce to cover up the fish or anything. Again the presentation was delightful, little carrot flowers and such. Too cute. My only issue with the sushi was that part of my shrimp still had it’s shell on, so I had to stop eating to make sure I didn’t swallow any but I understand that’s a easy thing to miss. The price was fair, it’s not your local hole in the wall or a AYCE place but that’s not what it’s meant to be. It’s perfect for a nice date night or for treating yourself to some really good sushi. I would definitely recommend this place and will be going again.

Awesome sushi in the burbs!!! Fresh tasting and service is good. Interior is also appealing. The spicy tuna roll is actually spicy… I could go hotter as that is more my preference. The soft shell crab rolls were also very appealing. Have not had any adult beverages here yet.

I got a compliment from Sushi M «I’m glad your [sic] not coming back.» When I click on the profile, it’s either a sock puppet or someone very fond of Sushi Mono. Guess they didn’t like my review. Pretty weird.

I absolutely loved this place and I’m not even a sushi person… I had a scary spider roll which was amazing but what really got me was what my boyfriend order. He ordered a volcano and it came to our table flaming(hint guess that’s why it’s named that)!!! But that plate was delicious! I think I ate the whole thing and left him one. Lol. The beef rolled asparagus I could have passed on. It was good just because I like beef and asparagus but I had better. I’m surprised this place got such mixed reviews… I rather enjoyed this place and I will be back soon!!!

I herd mixed reviews about this place but I have to say this is one of the good ones. Interior of the restaurant is pleasing to the eye service is not hanging around like vultures and timely when needed. Food: except for lack of flavor in beef wrapped asparagus I can say this is the place I would go back again and again ordered volcano, dragon and my girlfriend ordered scary spider. All of them were exquisite flavor and very well presented. As far as prise goes I seen some one mentioned it was expensive and on a contrary for a sushi place like that and food quality + presentation they don’t charge enough. Coming from someone who spend over $ 200 a person at sushi place and got nothing better then what I got at sushi mono. So money well spent and enjoyed

I have no clue where these 4 and 5 star reviews came from, but I’m beginning to think a robot is now Unilocaling. I went here last night on a double date and the service… was…horrendous. We ordered a jalapeño bomb for an appetizer, it took 25 minutes to make. There were only 2 other tables in the whole place! The waiter didn’t know anything… had no clue what«on the rocks» meant, didn’t know the drink specials and he was soooo slow. We watched the people sitting by us looking around for their food too. At one point after watching our appetizer sit there for a few minutes I got up and asked him if we could have it saying«we are hungry…»…I would have hoped he got the hint. We asked for no cucumber in one of our rolls, of course, it came with cucumber. Took 15 more minutes to remake. He brought our friends rolls out(3 of them) and then 5 minutes later brought one roll for us. Did you not plan for us to eat at the same time? So bizarre. At one point he even said«the waitress who actually knows what she’s doing left early tonight”-WHO SAYSTHAT??? My cocktail might as well have been in a sippy cup it was so small. The sushi was ok… I agree with another reviewer about it being mushy(I felt the same way!) We asked for the NFL game to be put on(college football was on…) and had to ask seriously 5 times. They would say«ok» and then just not put it on, so weird! I also thought he would take something off the bill because of the awful service and the fact our order came out wrong. Nope, nothing. We just moved to downtown Wheaton and I was really excited to try this place and wanted to love it, but I am blown away not only by the prices of their rolls but by the fact that it comes with the worst customer service out there. Much better options out there and I suggest all you Unilocalers find new sushi restaurants to eat at other than this one!
