Great food, amazing flavors! Mexican cousine like any other country. will offer many styles of cooking for Islas, they bring the flavors from Nayarit all the way to Wheeling. Please keep the same style.

This place was great. Hidden in an awkward plaza is Las Islas Maria. Too bad it’s in a bad location because more people need to go here. I have been craving raw oysters for the longest time and they had it, the first thing on the first page of the menu. Those oysters were fresh and delicious. Also, I had an order of ceviche. The free one was so good that I had to order another one. I ate to my heart’s content there. Raw oysters and ceviche are so healthy; it’s hard to feel heavy afterwards. However, I left feeling so stuffed. I ate so much there. The hostess was so nice too. She really made the experience better. She spoke Spanish to us, which was also awesome because I needed to get more practice.

Awesome food!!! We started it off with fresh made guacamole. We then had the taco dinner, which includes 3 tacos, refried beans and rice. Everything tasted great!!! Staff was super friendly. A great place for wonderful food. Tons of seafood too!!!

My fiancé and I were very impressed with the food and drinks. I ordered a fried mojarra and piña colada. My fiancé got a stuffed piña and michelada. Everything was cooked right. The waitress was very knowledgable and helpful. The service is what made this a great experience.

The food is okay but they’re always cleaning right by the tables and they use cleaning supplies that smell SOOSTRONG to the point where you have no appetite to finish your food!!!

This place came close to being 4 stars, but a couple of things convinced me otherwise; 1. The waitress seemed to not know what she was doing and waited a bit too long to remove dirty dishes from the table and such. 2. We were 3 guys and didn’t order too much. For our bill to come out 100 $ was a bit much. Our food had to have been about 33 $ a piece, and they sure as hell weren’t. Besides that, the food tasted pretty good, had many types of seafood and was cooked well.

Close to a four. Lots of Baha/Oaxacan speciaities. Good variety and tacos for the unwashed Chicagoan. But good on the seafood, non-gloppy, good flavors, emphasis on real foods, not US visions of them, meaning the real-deal. Service was good. Music a bit loud. Prices were fair, portion sizes were decent, and a good value. Gonna go here again; this was my first visit and everyone liked their food. My brother, who’s not good at spicy hot foods, was happy with his selection, too.

This was a FAVORITE restaurant that we visited several times a month… until we saw a bug crawling up the wall near our booth in the window. Yeah, you know the kind. I’m still so grossed out I can’t bring myself to type the word. Adiós Las Islas Marias.

Been there twice. First time, felt like I died and went to heaven – or at least Baja. I honestly have never had Mexican seafood done as well as this. Second time, the food was as good except the shrimps were rancid. Boo. Hiss. Still, I’d give it another try.

Very food Mexican seafood. My wife loves camarones a la diabla(grilled shrimp in hot sauce) and shrimp empanadas(fried bread filled with shrimp).

This place does not compare to the other islas marias although they have the same menu. for a mexican seafood joint in wheeling/NW suburbs its a 4 or 5 but compare to other mexican seafood its your average joint. my favorite dish its stuffed pinneapple or levanta muertos which is a combo of many seafood delights. Micheladas for a alcoholic beverage is a must.

When I found out that a Mexican seafood place was opening in suburbia, I had to give it a try. I came here with my cousins to sample most of the menu, below are our findings: Margaritas: This is NOT the place to go for Margaritas… ick. They use that crappy margarita mix you can get at the Jewel, do not salt the rim, and it tastes like kool-aid. Absolutely too little cheap alcohol. Beer: Not cold =(…then again, it was the first day they got their liquor license. But c’mon people!!! warm beer? Ick. Shrimp Cocktail: Big and flavorful with plenty of shrimp. Would recommend. Shrimp Empanadas: I was expecting deliciously golden fried empanadas with a cripsy outside and a burst of creamy shrimp deliciousness on the inside. What do I get instead? a super greasy empanada with zero flavor. I couldn’t even taste the shrimp. It was so greasy, I blotted it with a napkin, and it soaked right through :(Would not recommend this appetizer. Camarones Cucharacha: Roach shrimps… though the name was pretty terrifying, after having the waitress assure me there were indeed no roaches… I decided to give this a go. The sauce had a good flavor to it… and there were tons of shrimp on the plate. But… the shrimp were really tough… definitely not a sign of freshness :( Caldo de 7 mares(7 Sea Soup): This is the only reason I would return to this restaurant. The soup was bursting with generous portions of meaty crab legs, shrimp, little clams, octopus, etc. The broth was flavorful and spicy. I was in seafood heaven when I tried this… Oysters & Clams: Oysters were flavorless… we had to request some salt and lime to give it a bit of… something. Clams were yummy as hell and would recommend. They had a spicy sauce that really kicked up the flavor and complemented them well. Service and price: The service was meh. You could tell the waitresses are super new/inexperienced. But at least they were friendly and accomodating. The price came out to be $ 113 after taxes(we had 2 more dishes than the above, though I could only review what I tried), including drinks, so definitely a plus there. This place has strong competetion from Bob Chinn’s which is very close by and though the style is different, I would rather shell out a little more for better service and food. I would only come back here for the clams and the seafood soup. This place had too many misses to be deemed«A OK.»
