Salon Maffei

Very disappointed. After being a long standing client of 23 years I was astonished at how I was treated. Due to a change in product the wrong hair color was applied to my hair. My hair stylist, well aware of how sensitive my scalp is, applied corrective color and I suffered while color was applied and while being washed. My scalp burned and later scabbed (not the first time this has happened). The owner’s response to my concerns over a second application of color was disappointing. The shampoo girl, concerned about my discomfort, applied milk to sooth the burn. To add insult to injury after sitting for four (4) hours I was billed. There was no follow up phone call to check up. I haven’t been back in over a year. One would think my long standing hairstylist/​colorist would have been concerned, valued me as a client, and followed up with my following my experience and to see why I hadn’t been back. I have since found another hairstylist and while I struggled for a long time with going elsewhere my last experience and difficulty getting an appointment made my final decision very easy.
Sadly, I received a response from the owner of Salon Maffei that leaves much to be desired. One would think that a reputable business owner would apologize for the bad experience, his reaction at the time of service and offer me the opportunity to return for a better service. Instead, this is what I got… Subject: Great Review!

I don’t know who April is so I guess it’s safe to say that I’m not the only former client that has had a bad experience/​service at Salon Maffei!

Unlike most of my friends, I’ve never had a trusted hair stylist that I’ve used for years. There are several reasons for this ranging from my crazy job hours to just not finding a place I felt comfortable. That’s all changed now because I too finally have a trusted hair stylist and a go-​to salon. My stylist is Dominick Louis and the salon is Salon Maffei. I was lucky enough to get an appointment this past November when I had some free time at work. Although I had never used Salon Maffei before, I called because it was close to home and had good reviews and they were able to squeeze me in that afternoon with Dominick. When I arrived I was immediately impressed with way I was greeted. Dominick came right over and took my coat, sat me down and began to examine my dry, dull locks. I whipped out my phone and showed him a photo of Renee Russo, «Can you make me look like that?» I asked. He said «Funny, I was thinking of this style for you!» A perfect response! Two hours later with an amazing cut, color and highlights I felt fantastic! (Watch out Renee Russo!) Dominick walked me through every step of the process and really listened to what I wanted. He is extremely honest and professional but he’s also really nice and very sweet. Everyone at the salon seems supportive of each other. The shampoo was relaxing and not rushed. The salon itself is very roomy and clean. The owner, Nick, came over to introduce himself and was also very nice, low key and professional. And that one word pretty much sums up Salon Maffei — professional. Today I went back for my second haircut and color and was super impressed all over again. So if you are like me and looking to find your long awaited hair stylist or if you’re new to White Plains you must try Dominick and Salon Maffei. You won’t be disappointed.

For years, I only frequented salons in Manhattan and have always been very particular about who did my hair. After deciding I needed to find a salon closer to home, I received a recommendation for Salon Maffei. I have now been a customer for more than 6 years and would never go anywhere else. From haircuts, to hair color and keratin treatments, I have always been thrilled with the results. I have recommended many family and friends who have also had positive results. Nick Trombetta and his staff are wonderful.

AMAZING! I have been to many salons before and never have I been this happy with my hair color. Thanks to the amazing Rosa Russo! I was shocked how my hair went from almost black previously dyed hair to a golden/​honey blonde in 1 session! She made sure the whole time to not damage my hair at all, and it wasn’t. My hair felt so soft after she blew it out! I had a bombré (balayage ombré) and she blended it perfectly (no other stylist I’ve gone to was even close to being capable of doing it as good as she did) no harsh lines and I even looked through my hair to see if there was any uneven spots and nope nothing! I received so many compliments on my hair! She is now my new permanent hair colorist. I have found the one!

I just got home from Salon Maffei and I’m still in awe from the haircut, color and service I received today. My mom and sister sent me to Nick as a gift for Mothers Day and I couldn’t be happier I went to him.
From the minute I walked in I was greeted with smiles. What a wonderful atmosphere. Every staff member in this salon is happy, friendly, professional and absolutely beautiful.
I got a cut and color. I think I cut off about 13 inches of hair today and that is not something you would just trust anyone with. My color is perfect!!! After letting Nick handle my hair, I will never go to anyone else. Nick you are awesome!!!
Talk about knowing what you are doing. I think this man could have cut my hair with his eyes closed. I went in with an idea of what I wanted and left with something above and beyond what I could have imagined.
And my eyebrows have ever looked better. I had the threaded after my hair was done and they look amazing!
I feel wonderful right now!!!
You can and will not be disappointed if you trust this salon with your hair. This was honestly the best experience of my life.

This place is GREAT!!! I can’t stress that more… I went there for a color and blow out for the first time and besides the staff being so warm and friendly, the color and blowout by Stephanie were amazing… and I had the best shampoo I’ve had in a while… the girl took her time and gave me a wonderful scalp massage… and let me tell you… when it comes to my hair… I am generally a pain-​in-​the –ass customer… never happy… LOL!

I am a regular visitor to White Plains (home is in Atlanta) and really needed a cut and highlights. Luckily I scored a last minute color (which turned into a corrective color) with Nick and a cut with Patty. Three hours later I emerged a new woman with a much more natural color and a very easy to fix cut. Overall I am thrilled with the results and plan to make this my new salon. Also, Patty gave me a great hug before I left which I thought was pretty cool. The only con is this place is not for someone on a budget. Luckily I subscribe to the «you get what you pay for» school of thought!

I’ve been cutting my hair with Nick since I was around 13 – 14 years old, I am now 22 years old and every time he’s not available to cut hair and I go to another salon someone ALWAYS messes it up… Not Nick… He always knows if I got a haircut somewhere else because HE KNOWS how to cut hair.
He’s done everything to really short hair to medium short hair, he’s turned my hair into red, purple, white, silver, blonde you name it…
Every time I go to Maffei is the same experience, I get my coffee or tea, and I sit down to have a great experience.
The price range for haircuts vary depending on what you’ll get. Just a reminder, expect to pay more than a hundred, this is a hair salon with knowledgeable hairdressers so it ain’t cheap.
The hairdressers here ask you what you want, give you options, and are very open minded. I have had different hairstylists cut my hair and they’ve all done a really amazing job.
Also, sometimes Nick goes to play piano in front of the salon and it is just fantastic to get a chance to hear him play! I really wish I could see him play often but if you ever get to see him it’s amazing!
Anyways, from all my years of experience Maffei salon has never EVER disappointed me, and I can definitely assure you that there’s no place in White Plains that can be as good as this.

Ok, I had a chance to go back and have a cut and color with Nick, who is the owner of the salon. My second experience at the salon was a huge improvement over my first visit. I was greeted warmly, offered coffee, and didn’t have to wait for my appointment. The woman who washed and combed my hair was gentle and checked to make sure the temperature of the water was comfortable. She even asked if I prefer conditioner all over or just on the ends – a small touch that I appreciated. Nick and i discussed my visions for color and cut before getting started. The color he chose was very complementary to my skin and eyes – a definite keeper. He attempted to fix the mangled cut I had received almost 2 months earlier. It wasn’t grown in enough to fix completely, but he did blend it together nicely. Hopefully by my next cut it will have grown in enough to wear down again (as opposed to the ponytail/​bun I’ve been sporting for 2 months to hide the uneven, choppy layers).
Rating the salon based on these two very different experiences has been tough. Based on the second experience, I would definitely go back – but only for an appointment with Nick. I can’t speak to the quality of the other stylists there (aside from Lia, who I don’t recommend), but I do appreciate the good customer service on the part of the owner and the willingness to make my experience there a good one.

I came across this salon from a Groupon offer for a wash, cut and style. I am very impressed by both the service and result! My stylist was Melody and I was very pleased by her skills. She was very experienced and was extremely nice. She also took the time to walk me through the cut explaining everything she did and teaching me various ways to style and maintain the style. She gave great suggestions with valid reasoning and took her time to pay special attention and detail to the cut. You don’t always get stylists like that, so I really appreciated it.
My groupon was $ 40 for an $ 80 cut. I’m typically the kind of girl who will get cheap trims at Supercuts for $ 8 (converted due to years of mediocre service at luxury salons) so I thought this was a little on the pricey side at original cost, but I was very happy at the end. I plan on returning!
