There aren’t many, if any little cafes in the area where you can go and get something sweet at night. Golden Sparrow is a cute little modern space, that has quite a few options. We got a red velvet cupcake, which was good, although didn’t seem all that fresh. The chocolate brownie, was the gooiest thing ever. It was more fudge-like than brownie-like, but the flavor was good. Because of the check-in offer we also got a free cookie and chose the chocolate chip hazelnut, which was crispy and yummy. While not the best, it could satisfy your sweet tooth when needed.

I went back again today to see if they had any new flavor macroons and they did! I’ve been hinting them to make green tea and they finally had it! It was surprisingly light but i loved it. Not a typical green tea flavor but still delicious. They also had hazelnut which was just as delicious. Of course i got almond which is still my favorite, but I think it was made differently this time by adding some actual almonds. Either way it reminds me of my favorite good humor ice cream, toasted almond. It’s always a surprise when I come here and it never disappoints.

i’m so glad this is a sit-in place because i feel like in most bakeries, it’s a little awkward to sit there. the staff was pretty nice and let us sample some gelato flavors. we ended up choosing coconut hazelnut nutella gelato and banana toffee gelato. i REALLY liked the coconut hazelnut one – the flavors were subtle and it was an awesome combination. the banana one tasted a little too artificial for me – like banana laffy taffy. i got a free cookie with the Unilocal check-in and through the employee’s recommendation, i got the choco marshmallow crunch cookie. not sure if it was because we went near closing time, but this cookie was rough. my bf and i didn’t like it :/ overall, i’m glad this place exists and i can’t wait to try the other flavors :)

This is the third incarnation of a gelaterria at this location. Favors are always interesting. Best to date is the dark chocolate sorbet… great googly moogly.

Just like Jordan D., I too was skeptical about another bakery opening up in Whitestone. I thought«Whitestone needs another bakery as much as it needs another nail place or hair salon». But boy I was wrong. I have only been once but I can’t wait to go again. My husband and I both had gelato cones at a very affordable price of around $ 6 plus tax in total for both. I had the Golden Sparrow gelato which was a very creamy vanilla base with tons of chocolate chunks, and what tasted like caramel and other crunchy sugary wonderful things. I could have drowned in it. My husband had Wild Cherry which tasted so natural and delicious. Both flavors were very creamy and not too sweet and very close to the kind of gelato we had all over Italy. The cupcakes looked amazing and I can’t wait to go back and try the peanut butter and jelly or even the peanut butter and bacon ones. The décor is modern and simple, with a lot of comfy seating. It looks like when you order a coffee you get real mugs, but I am not sure. The owners were very sweet and welcoming. They said that currently the shop is open on Fridays and Saturdays until 10PM so it is a great place to sit and relax with friends for an after-dinner sweet treat. I can’t wait to work my way through all the selections.

Being born and bred in Whitestone and having lived there for 25 years, Golden Sparrow is the perfect addition to the ‘village’! When I initially read about another bakery opening up in Whitestone, I was a bit skeptical. Whitestone has it’s world famous Storks up the block, Salerno in the Whitestone Shopping Center and a whole host of other Meditteranean inspired bakeries. My first thought was«What could they offer that these other places don’t have?» Here’s what: –Some of the best macarons I’ve ever had and since my gf is a macaron fiend, I’ve tried some of the best Manhattan has to offer and the macarons Golden Sparrow put out are comparable to some of the big name pastry joints in the city. They have 5 – 6 outrageously yummy varieties; red velvet, lavendar, blueberry, almond, lemon, pistachio(thank god for my gf’s memory!) –PEANUTBUTTERBACONCUPCAKE; need I say more? –An eclectic selection of sorbet and gelato(I think I might just take the whole vat of their peanut butter gelato and try to make a run for it next time I’m in there) Ok, you get my point. You won’t find the same boring Italian cookies, the same old Greek desserts or your run of the mill american styled pies. The desserts and pastries here are different, imaginative and most importantly, DELICIOUS. Prices are moderate, the seating looked comfy, the owners are super friendly and the vibe in here was just really chilled out. I really like seeing great businesses like this sprout up in the old hood. I’m not in Whitestone as much as I use to be, but when I come back in the future, I’ll be sure to stop here for some treats.

Could one get drunk off of sorbetto? I sure wish! The moscato sorbetto makes me feel a bit naughty as if I were sipping vino out on the streets. The little to-go cups* complete with lid would make this a worthy, inconspicuous substitute for a 40 ounce in a bag. Golden Sparrow is a small little café that recently made Whitestone its home. Complete with various gelato and sorbetto flavors, Greek pastries and treats, coffee to keep you going, and free wifi to help you linger longer. I’ve only had the gelato/sorbetto but every flavor I’ve tried provided a cooling treat on the first jacket-less day of the year. The nutella flavor was surprisingly refreshing, the coffee was rich tasting without being too heavy, and the guiness, although strange made me appreciate the fact that they will experiment with flavors. The ginger pear and lavender along with the many other flavors are intriguing enough to warrant a return visit. Thankfully I have the whole summer to do so! *

I’ve stopped in this new spot a couple times over the past month and am quite impressed. This is a great place in an area that desperately needs more places like this, with coffee options beyond«regular or decaf?» and desserts that are more than pies or Greek or Italian specialties. I’ve tried cookies and cupcakes and coffee and tea, and all were quite good. There are nice and simple seating areas in front and back of the café, and I hear there is going to be outdoor seating soon too. For a neighborhood that is a bit tech-shy, they even have free wifi and use an iPad as the register! I’m planning more trips to this new spot and look forward to using it as my «office away from the office» more and more!

Great little neighborhood dessert shop with a super-friendly owner/pastry chef who’s eager to experiment with new flavor combinations, and keep it as fresh as possible. Tried several flavors of gelato, and one of their sorbettos, and the flavors were spot-on. The gelato is appropriately rich and dense, and the sorbetto was clean and refreshing(I had a Moscato sorbetto by the way, which was very satisfyingly Moscato-ey). Pricing on the gelato is very reasonable, especially when compared to some Manhattan gelato spots.

I was brought here kind of unexpected after days of craving gelato and I was NOT disappointed. Their Gelato is made fresh daily, the lady who was in there was amazing she was so helpful and friendly I would most definitely go back and recommend this place to friends. The only reason why I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because I’ve only had their de-lish gelato, but I will be back here soon.
