You know you’re in whiting Indiana if you find this White Castle. most people use it as a focal point in the city to find things– I’m sure many people who have even lived here years would get lost without it on 119th street. The service is okay– just like any fast food joint you’ll get what you pay for in the long run. Definitely one of the places you’ll want to go after a night of drinking or after pierogi festival in the summer

This is a usually reliable place for a quick slider lunch.

Let me first say, I don’t have ESP powers. But when I see a certain type of young workers, I know something is going to be bad. The male cashier, lots of bad ink on his arms. The female worker, sewing machine thread spools in her ears. On top of this an older Polish lady doing the grill work. Asked for my sliders to be made with extra pickles, but when I heard her question something I knew it was wrong. The young girl served a soda cup with soda all the sides and the napkins came pre-soiled, yum. Sliders were made without the extra pickles and the meat was broken into several pieces. The only good thing about this place is that it is one of the older style White Castles, which I love.

I have a theory that explains why this particular White Castle makes the best sliders: it’s the presence of the nearby refineries that adds to the flavor! Seriously, the sulphur in the air seems to complement that released by the onions as they cook, and it all comes together in the careful hands of the longtime staff who operate this WC. I cannot oveemphasize the importance of carefully constructing a slider; you don’t just slop it all together as some WC employees elsewhere in Chicagoland do. No, you have to maintain the integrity of the pickle, bun, burger and onions as you pat them into place in their box. You want to make something good? Then take the time to do it right like these folks do! Now, if I could just figure out a way to sneak some garlic salt into their salt shakers for the next batch they cook — HEAVEN!
