The wife and I visit many restaurants on the south shore… try to go to Mcguians for the Irish music on Tuesday night… food is always good as well as the drinks.,.always say that Linus the bartender is the hardest working bartender in the south shore …

Traditional Irish Pub! Definitely a locals spot, not much seating

Service and friendliness… excellent! Chix wings were offered as a plate with fries. We really wanted them as an app, but they weren’t on the menu that way. Wings were quite good. Burger while quite tasty, had the appearance of a pre-packed(perhaps frozen) patty. Fries were average restaurant fries. The onion rings were quite good for a frozen product. Reuben sandwich left a lot to be desired… corned beef too salty, sandwich too greasy. We may try it again, but won’t rush back.

I live in Boston and work in Whitman. I have to be honest, maybe I’m spoiled, but the food choices in the burbs are not what they are in the city. I have been coming to this place now and then over the past year and I have never had anything but great experiences here. The waitresses are always super personable and friendly, and the service is quick. I have eaten everything from a BLT, to nachos, to the Buffalo chicken pasta and I have honestly loved it all. I definitely did not expect to be super impressed the first time I went into this place. It is in the middle of nowhere Whitman and it’s not particularly well– decorated. It’s just an average pub, but it is apparent to me that they focus on the important things: delicious food, and extremely friendly and timely service.

Richard has captured the feel of an old time Boston pub. Wonderful bar, the food is very good pub fair. There is often excellent entertainment.

We took my daughter here for her birthday dinner. It was busy, but the service was still very fast. It wasn’t too loud especially since they were very busy. I have buffalo chicken mozzarella, and it was phenomenal! The chicken was juicy. It wasn’t too spicy. It has fresh spinach and tomatoes that were delicious. We will definitely be back.

We stopped in on Monday at around 7pm, our second time there, sat at the bar, quick friendly service the corn beef sandwich was hardy, on a nice bulky with fresh LT, my wife’s fish sandwich was also very good, great pub atmosphere. It was trivia night the place was packed when we left about 9pm. I’ll keep coming back for sure.

This place is a pretty average pub place. The décor is very standard. In an area with not a ton of food choices, I would think they would try to step it up a bit. Many of the dishes were bland. I did try the shepards pie pizza… different, bit wouldn’t say amazing. The reason I had to give it two stars is the service… sssslllllooooowwwwwww Even when not busy. Just to damn aggravating. I hate paying for poor service.

We have been to this establishment about 3 times. I have never been impressed but my husband seemed to like it. Not sure why. Last night my husband and I along with the two kids took our last bite here and we’ll never be back. Here is how the evening went down: We arrived at 5:00PM, only folks in dinning room. The waitress greeted us and took our drink order promptly. That was all good but then it went down hill. The waitress forgot what we ordered and came back to confirm. The nacho’s were soggy and not very well put together. Then when the meal was delivered, she served the wrong meal. One of the kids ordered the Shepherd’s Pie and for $ 15 you’d expect something awesome. It sucked! We called it hamburger soup. Phantom Gourmet, you got this one all wrong. Were you paid off by this establishment? This was not Shepherd’s Pie but I though it was chili at first. The waitress forgot drinks and then forgot part of the food order, like the sides. My husband ordered fried scallops and received boiled scallops instead. My son’s bacon burger and 3 slices of «precooked» Oscar Mayer bacon on it and was over done. My BLT was ordered on White bread and came on wheat with that awful bacon. We paid over $ 86 for this meal and thought how we could have spent that good money some where else that had much better food. Do go here if you don’t care about spending good money on bad food. I’m pretty sure as I was leaving the cook who was out back smoking a cigarette heard me call the Sheppard’s pie«Shi# Stew». Wasn’t intending for him to hear it but it happened.

Food is really bland and the service is slow. We waited an hour after ordering our dinner for the food to come. Another time my hamburger was charred, tasteless and over cooked. Trying to get the waitress to come over was a challenge, as she rarely checked in on us and when she did getting drink orders was a slow process. Our table near the front windows was near a large table but the setup meant that for someone from that other table to get out I had to squeeze and slid my chair in. Gave me the feeling the owners care more about packing as many people in than my dining experience. There are much better places to go. My wife’s family is from Whitman and they say the owner is the«Mayor of Whitman»(Whitman is a town with a council). This place is a townie bar and the effort put into it reinforces that. We can buy our own frozen appetizers and make them at home for way cheaper. Also, I am pretty sure I recently got Strep Throat from drinking here. I have no proof of that but this was the only place that I visited prior to getting sick that could have put me at risk. As a former bartender I can say for certain the glasses were not their cleanest. But every time we go there it is full. It’s like a Whitman-Hanson reunion every night. I get that. I get that people would like that but it’s not for us.

Everything I have ordered here has been very good. The nachos are delicious and come in a huge serving. The sweet potato fries are perfect. Great burgers. Great salads. Great chicken and buffalo chicken wraps. The Reuben is a favorite of mine and their homemade Mac and cheese(with or without lobster) is very good. The portions are huge I almost always leave with leftovers. The bar always has a great vibe. The staff have always been super friendly and it’s always filled with the locals which is fun. Definitely good food and good drinks. Classic American food done well

Stay away from this place. The people involved are not the type tof people that you want to have anything to do with. The company they keep is bad and it transfers right to to food. Just go elsewhere.

In a town like Whitman that is very local a restaurant like this stands out for its chain-like feel. Everything is just a little too pre-meditated. The food and décor could be in any town in America. Nothing about this place speaks to me as unique or special in any way. The food is not bad just as the food at Friendly’s is not bad. It is also not memorable. In a town where there are a few local gems less than a block away this place gets lost. It’s giant banner out front claiming awards in nearly every dining category means that this should be a place people rave about and wait for an hour for a table at. I have never seen the place full and despite giving it 3 – 4 tries I have yet to find the food or the service up to the standard that they would have you believe they set. If you eat here you won’t have a bad time, but you won’t remember the night.

My wife and I decided to try it because a bartender at another restaurant we frequent also works here. We visited on a Sunday afternoon which was not one of the days he works. Anyone who reads my reviews knows that we always eat at the bar. This place has a large bar(seats 24). The décor is Irish Pub all the way. I was extremely impressed by the fact that they have Magner’s Irish cider available. Our bartender was Maureen(or Mo as she asked us to call her.) She did a really top notch job for us. She made a great Cosmo for the wife and also let me have a taste of the Sam Adams Winder Ale that they had on tap. Because it’s football season they have wings for $.25 each on Sunday’s and Thursday nights. You can choose between buffalo, thai or plain. We had a dozen buffalo. They were big wings, perfectly cooked and the sauce was good and spicy. 5 stars for the wings. We shared a pizza with onions, green peppers and mushrooms. We ordered it crispy and it was still a bit limp but not really bad enough to comp[lain, just educated us of how to order next time. And there will undoubtedly be a next time. According to their calendar(which they use as place mats) they have Irish Music on Tuesday nights and live music Friday and Saturday nights. Wednesday appears to be half price pizza night. Pizza was good but not stellar. They do have plenty of TV’s around the bar too for watching the football games. The reasons I don’t give them 5 stars are pretty picky ones. They have 12 draft beer nozzles but both stations just have the same 6 beers(guiness, bud, Bud lite, Sam seasonal, Bass and Angry Orchard cider) I would like to see them add another 6 beers to the draft location with a little character(Sam’s, and IPA, etc.) They do however, have a good bottled selection so I did not go thirsty when I changed from my Magner’s. Second reason is that the pizza is just meh. Bottom line is that we recommend this place and will be back. We have returned almost weekly since the original review so I wanted to comment on several additional menu items and correct my original assessment of the pizza. The first time must have been an odd miss because I now think that they are in the top 3 bar pizza restaurants in this area. And Wednesday’s they have eat in for half price. Was looking forward to Christos take out coming to the neighborhood but will pass that by now. Additional dishes tried: — Fish and Chips — perfectly cooked and the size of the portion was almost intimidating, h tasted nice and fresh and the coating was very crispy. — Nachos — The best in the area and HUGE. I never order this as an appetizer anymore because there is just so much. Good chili and lots of other fixin’s. — Steak tips are my latest favorite. Really nice sear on the outside and juicy on the inside. Not sure what the marinade is but extremely tasty. Portion is good, I usually end up taking 2 – 3 tips home. — Wife really loves the French Onion soup — They have a really different appetizer selection that makes for an interesting Sunday afternoon pick fest. Buffalo Mozzerella Cheese, Onion petals, Basket of mini Corn Dogs(haven’t tried them yet because hot dogs are supposed to be off the menu for me) fried green beans. I think you get the idea. -

Great restaurant in the Whitman area. Seriously good burgers, lobster roll, and pizza. Overall a really solid place to grab some food and a couple of drinks. Bonus points for having some fun cocktails. The pub has a calendar on their website and usually has some interesting stuff happening. Five stars from me, keep up the good work.
