Had Sushi here last night and I have to say it was good. We had three different types of rolls. Two of them we wanted fried and they fried them for us. They didn’t come fried on the menu. It’s a very small place. Almost didn’t come in but so glad we did. I would definitely come back.

Small place with very friendly owners. Attentive customer service and good hours. Have always had good food. One of my local favorite local places!

Staff is very friendly and attentive. Dark wooden tables, porcelain soy sauce dispensers, mini black curtains with white puffer fishes, and bamboo accents pieces create a genuine Japanese sushi bar feeling. Interior is well decorated sans the home printed advertisement taped to the walls. I ordered the citrus salmon roll and fell in love. The combination of asparagus, thinly sliced lemon, salmon, and avocado was so delicious it was difficult to put my chopsticks down! The roe and sauce it’s served with act as the cherry on top. Edamame is served lightly salted and the sweet and sour sauce that accompanies the egg rolls is a little spicy but that’s more than fine with me. I definitely recommend this restaurant over any other sushi spot in uptown.

I love this place! My son and I go at least once a month which is a lot considering the amazing eats in Whittier! The owners Jane and John are always so welcoming! They know us by name and will always go out of their way to provide excellent service! Once they were super busy and provided everyone with complimentary appetizers, small gestures go a long way!!! Highly recommend!

First visit, Picked up dinner«to go» following online order and calling ahead to verify. Food was ready very close to the requested time and delicious! The sushi was ample portions and the rolls were tasty. Definitely will be back.(Parking was stupid — they need to move or I need to walk) Third visit placed order online without calling– went to pick up and they looked at a fax machine looking device and said«no order». So even if you get an email confirmation, it’s meaningless. Do not use online system or risk waiting another half hour. Frustrated and hungry, we went elsewhere.

Don’t let the outside deter you, Grill & Sushi is very good. Also, the owners are the servers so the feel is very home spun. However, because they are the owners they will often do small special and unexpected gestures like free food or drink not on the menu. I tried the Heart Attack Roll and it was a savory delight. Tempura appetizer was abundant and had tempura broccoli which I’ve never had. It was very good. My daughter had a California roll and my wife the baked scallop roll. Both enjoyed. Try the tempura green tea ice cream. A perfect cap to a great meal.

I have never been here before today. I was just looking for a sushi restaurant to go to so I could finish up some homework and also eat some sushi(the citrus roll and the Cathy roll are AMAZING!) I couldn’t be happier with my decision to come here. The food is not only amazing but the service is to die for. The waitress, who I believe is the chefs wife and co owner, is the sweetest! I will definitely be returning. 5 stars!

Awesome healthy spot for lunch if you work close by! The side salad is great. Salmon always cooked to perfection! Chilean seabass is bomb! Soba noodle dish is amazing and super flavorful. The owners are extremely nice, they have lunch specials too, spot in and you won’t regret it! They knew us since we’d come like every week practically :)

Fair price. Good portions. Nice little location. Friendly staff. Ordered lobster roll and chicken ramen. Only bad thing was that they forgot to add the chicken. Didn’t notice till i got home. Still would go back.

My new favorite sushi joint in whittier! You can’t ask for more delicious sushi, generous portions or lower prices. I had the sushi lunch special — 5 huge pieces of sushi, choice of additional entrée(I chose the shrimp tempura roll), miso soup, rice and salad for $ 10.95. Generous portions of everything ! My only complaint is they are closed Sunday’s, which is when I typically eat out– but I can’t gripe about them taking time off for family

Came on a Saturday afternoon and was empty we werw the only ones there, kind of skeptical but tried it anyway. Udon soup was really good, pink lady was good as well, California roll was ok just like anywhere else and baked scallop wasn’t good wouldn’t order it again. Service was good owner really nice. I would come back to have pink lady and try other rolls.

Not terrible. Not great.(What lukewarm sentiment, I know.) Came here on a whim with my brother and didn’t know what to expect. What I got was not bad food at a not bad price. The beef in my beef bowl was fairly tasty and cooked well. However, there was very little of it. I mean, I know the rice-to-beef ratio always favors the rice, but this was very skewed. Also, the vegetables on my bowl were cold(and not left-out-too-long cold, but straight out the fridge cold), so that kinda threw things off. If it wasn’t for that beefy goodness, I would’ve been very upset. I also had some jalapeño roll. Now that was pretty good but so messy to eat. It was too big to eat in one bite and didn’t stay together very well(it fell apart easily). The flavor was there but the execution was off, I guess you could say. Miso soup and tempura were standard. Canned sodas for $ 1 though? Not a fan of that. I feel bad calling this place mediocre, but that’s pretty much what it was.

I love it here! Very fresh fish, unlike the other shops in the area. Very sweet owners. Wonderful service. Delicious food. I could eat the spicy tuna bowl every day. My son loves it here too. A family place for sure!

Was craving sushi and had been to a near by sushi place for lunch, so I thought I would try a new place! I had seen the Grand Opening sign earlier and was intrigued. It is a super small restaurant with just three booths, three tables and a bar area! I sat at the bar and within 15 minutes of being there, the tables and the booths were filled(I can for dinner). I ordered the sushi combo with 5 pieces of sushi and the spicy tuna roll. The owner was friendly with me, but since I was new she did not talk to me very much. She engaged with the other customers, as they might have been regulars. There is only one sushi chef, so service is a bit slow. Sushi was good, the only bad thing was the spicy tuna roll was a little on the warmer and soggier side which made it a little difficult to eat.

Food wise I would have only given 2 stars but for the owners extremely kind service, I bumped it up to 3 From all the reviews on this place, I was really disappointed. But then again, considering the area that isn’t robust with asians, I’m not surprised that the quality is not good. Cathy Roll: mediocre quality sushi pieces. Added thinly sliced onions and a citrus sauce dribbled on top that ruined the taste of the sushi. Please keep it to the authentic japanese style Popcorn Lobster Roll: was there even lobster in this? Couldn’t find not taste any. The sauce on the lobster was way too sweet and overpowering, it didn’t even taste like eating sushi anymore Gower Studio Roll: again, what was on top? It was too drenched with sweet sauce I couldn’t tell what was in it. Seems like it’s cooked Orange chicken style. Same with the lobster roll too Las Vegas Roll: this and the roll just above had weird thin little ramen noodle crisps on top? New concept that’s weird. This one is okay but the coloring didn’t look appealing for sushi Pros: –free wifi –owner is really nice and friendly –pillows on booth table benches for seating –10% off for delivery/takeout –they offer delivery and takeout –free miso soup(however it was very diluted and lacked in miso flavor) Cons: –extremely expensive sushi prices for a place that isn’t even designed as a restaurant, more like a café –very small –the tables were extremely narrow for the booth tables –sushi quality is probably the best in this area, but overall compared to asian/Japanese standards, not that great

A good sushi place in Whittier? They are few and far between. It’s tucked away in a strip mall, so you may miss it if you blink. Seeing the reviews here made hubby and I want to give it a try. Especially because it is right up the street from us. We are definitely glad we did. The owners were sweet as can be. The food delicious. The only thing that was lacking was a liquor license. There’s something about sushi and Asahi. Alas, they do have a nice array of beverages, just not of the alcoholic persuasion. But, in speaking to the owner, she said that you can bring your own«beverages» if you are so inclined. Of course, you must be 21. The rolls that I tried were fantastic. What really has made me go back is their Unagi Bowl. It is packed with eel and avocado and just full of freshness and flavor. If you happen to be in the area and want to try a new place without breaking the bank, try Grill N Sushi.

The owner Jenny is soooo friendly, customer service makes a world of difference. The sushi was delicious! I ordered the tiger roll and the jalapeño tempura roll. There was a single table outside so I was able to enjoy my lunch with my fur baby(dog). Jenny even brought my doggie some water if you wanna see my video review of Grill N Sushi check out: I’ll definitely be back!!!

It’s a Korean-owned Japanese food place. Small mom and pop joint in plaza with hair salon and liquor store. The parking lot was empty so we were apprehensive but seeing the 5-star reviews we had to try it. Overall, it was an average sit-down quick sushi place. I got a tempura & spicy tuna combo for $ 8.99 and bf got a chicken & california roll combo for $ 7.99. They were both good. The chicken didn’t have a lot of sauce(i hate it when places lather their chicken in sauce) but it was a bit try. The tempura was nothing special. The service was good and they gave us cold blood orange at the end of the meal. :)

After a complete interior redesign and new cuisine, the little shop on the corner of Hadley and Pickering has once again been transformed. This time, a quaint little sushi shop has opened it’s doors to the hungry masses of Whittier. First and foremost, after a few visits here, I’m fairly confident that the only two employees of the restaurant are the husband and wife team that not only manage the place, but also cook the food, and serve you at your table. You don’t see that enough anymore, and it’s such a charming and wonderful thing to see. Now on to the food. The sushi is surprisingly good. It tastes wonderful and the ingredients seem to be nice and fresh. The non-sushi offerings are also quite nice. One of my highlights is that the teriyaki beef is not that shaved beef stuff you get at places like Yoshinoya or at Hawaiian BBQ places, this is real medallions of beef, and it’s darn good. The sauces and dressings that accompany some of the food aren’t overbearing and accompany the meal nicely. If I had to make one criticism, it’s that although the sushi rolls are delicious, the tend to be wrapped a little loose, which causes the integrity of the cut rolls to suffer just a tad. The service is wonderful and getting that little orange treat at the end is just so adorable. You can tell that the duo behind the counter really do try and make your meal enjoyable. Lastly, this little place isn’t going to bust your wallet. Everything is fairly priced and you definitely get your money’s worth. I’d love to see this place stick around for as long as possible. Good job, Grill N Sushi!
