My son and I WERE long time customers. We had a late night one day and headed for John’s. We had 15 minutes before they closed. They saw us pull up in the parking lot. The lady that normally takes our order ran to the front door and started wrapping the chain around the door to lock it. She saw us and didn’t even care. We’ve been going there for years and still had 10 minutes(at this point) before they closed and she treated us that way. Very sad! We won’t be going back.

I live down the street and grew up eating here even before it was Johns. It used to be Northburgers. Since the change of hands the quality of food and customer service has gone down hill. Recently went in for breakfast, got a breakfast burrito and while waiting for the food, noticed the soda machine was disgusting with black and green gunk. Place could REALLYUSE A GOODCLEANUP. Food is ok nothing special. My whole family has stopped visiting after the whole soda machine gunk incident. Cheap price= poor quality.

When compared to the much superior Douglas Burger on Telegraph/Gunn, this place can’t win. However, food is definitely good and fresh and quick. Plus I live walking distance, and it’s good to get some cardio in after cuz they serve big portions. If you’re in the area and need a quick fix, give it a try

Ordered lunch today on the phone thinking I would get what I ordered. The burger was the wrong one. Asked for no cheese — cheese everywhere. Under cooked too. Next the onion rings and fries were also under cooked. The entire order and my $ 12 in the trash! Thanks for nothing john’s.

UNBELIEVABLE! I ordered the chicken teriyaki plate and got a plate fully loaded with rice and sprinkled chicken pieces on top. It looked like literally, the chicken was spread out to cover the rice one piece at a time. The lamest teriyaki plate I have EVERHAD! Let’s not forget… it didn’t even taste that good. Definitely not THEBEST Teriyaki.

The food was ehh. I ordered a breakfast burrito and there was way to many potatoes in it and the eggs were ok. The sausage was flavorful. It was hot so that is a plus. The husband ordered the steak and eggs. The steak was chewy to the point of he actually had to remove a piece from his mouth chewed up. My older child ordered the pancakes which were good while the younger one ordered the burger. The burger was dry and needed to be slathered in ketchup and mustard. There is no table service but that helps keep the prices low. For the price you get what you pay for. The salsa was more like a chile sauce. All in all it wasn’t a bad place to eat but I won’t make a second trip there.

Ate here one and I got the turkey burger. It wasn’t as good as I expected. Next time just trying something else.

Their breakfast burrito saved my life this morning. SO good and filling and wonderful. Not an upscale place by any means, but they have a great variety of food and the value is unbeatable. Definitely a gem of a diner.

I have never eaten anything here except breakfast dishes. The bfast is great. A poor man’s diner/deli. The ommies are nothing glorious but straightforward. I have had their veggie ommie and it’s the best from this category. The pastrami ommie is very good too. Basically the same as bacon and cheese which is good. Ommies comes with hash and toast. The service is whatever. Do not expect too much. The value is amazing. Very affordable for the amount of food given. I am highly impressed with the basic commodities John’s provides us. My friend got the teriyaki chicken before and says, it’s really good. Better than Yoshinoya and comparable to Roheys and Orange Houses nearby. However… Do not get the bfast burro. It was gross, utterly disgusting, an insult, albatross to all things bfast burro. oh and did i mention it is super duper über cheap??? Ballin on a budget status reppen here at Juans~! There is also a bunch of old time regs here which is a sure sign these folks do something right!

This was a horrible breakfast experience. I got a breakfast burrito half sausage half bacon and it was still flavorless. It was all potato and I couldn’t find a trace of bacon. I have been sick all day. My wife got pork chop and egg. You could see through the pork chop it was so thin. It was overlooked and dry as a bone. My wife is not as picky about food as me and she hated it. Prices are cheap and so is the quality. Would not come back if it was free. Depressing environment to go along with the bad food. Stay away or it will be am I told you so.

This place is a hidden gem! Their burrito kills any burrito in town! Alberto has nothing on this place when it comes burritos! John’s avocado bacon cheeseburger is hands down the best burger. Bacon is crisp and avocados ripe and delicious. Easily the BEST!

I am am avid guest there. I eat there atleast once a week and i can never get tired of the food. Their deep fried mushrooms are amazing. The food is consistant in flavor, its like the cooks are trained the same way. Each cook, cooks the same and maintain the awesome flavors! awesome spot to get a good meal :-)

Really great prices! I have only been here for breakfast and it’s a good size breakfast for a good price. They have 3 different breakfasts for $ 3.99 and only add a $ 1 for coffee! The place itself needs a major update and it doesn’t feel so clean. But the food is a decent quality and it has good service. It’s not the most delicious food but it is worth the price.

We had breakfast here just last Saturday morning. It was my first time, but my beau had been here before but not the last year or so. There are very few breakfast places that are not a Norms or Denny’s type in this part of Whittier. We don’t care for crowds, a long wait and loud toddlers. We both ordered the steak and egg breakfast. It was OK, but don’t expect the steak to be cooked to your liking. My BF asked for medium-rare and didn’t get it. If you require your steak being cooked to a certain temperature; forgo the steak breakfast order. This isn’t a upscale steakhouse. I like the fact that its a friendly independent coffee shop, cheap, fast service(no waitress service). There is a big screen TV to watch sports and all you can drink coffee in ceramic cups. They also have a good selection on their menu. A big parking lot is a plus and not too crowded. To me it beats Norms or Taco Bell close by.

I came here upon the recommendation of fellow Unilocaler Young C., and was in for some fresh, greasy goodness. Finding parking rather easily in the lot after noting the large sign, I strolled in at the lunch hour via the front door to find a rather sizable menu, soda fountain, and ample seating in a somewhat crowded restaurant. Self-seated patrons who worked nearby in both business and casual attire seemed to be getting their chow on with burgers, gyros, fries, and similar items. I ordered two items and they were equally delicious and get five stars. –Fried zucchini and onion rings sampler(picture: ): I think this was the best part of the meal since I love veggies. The fried items were as fresh as could be, but somehow they got better. You know when you order fried items they can be soaked in grease and take away the taste from the actual ingredients? Well, that didn’t happen here. I could taste the fresh zucchini and onions, and very little oil. They did a great job here, and I was left wanting more. –Double bacon avocado cheeseburger with pastrami(minus the bacon, here’s a picture: ) Oh this is the big kahuna. People should come here just for this. This place should be known for this burger. So while many of you love bacon and it was recommended, I don’t eat it so I opted out. I was recommended this burger for its hefty size, as it would fill me up. I had skipped out on breakfast and famished. The burger was HUGE. With every bite I had a mix of mainly pastrami and beef flavors, which were quite juicy and delectable. The avocado added some creaminess, but this beast burger was a manly treat for the famished. This place lived up to its name just by this burger alone. If you don’t see it on the menu, just ask for it like I did. John’s lies on a busy part of Whittier Boulevard on the edge of Brea, and is rather unassuming to most. I would consider this place that is fun for families, kids, and is an all-American meal. A lot of places in Santa Fe Springs or the industrial area nearby have joints like this, but they fail to deliver in service, care, and flavor factors. They tend to bustle and have lost some of their care. I’ve visited many of these places over the years, and now I think I’ll opt out of them for this place. Outside of supporting a small business like most of us try to do, I was surprised to find the food fresh and then some. How? Well, I found the owner to be incredibly hospitable as he came up to me mid-meal and made sure I was happy with all the items. He even wanted to know which item I liked better. While you may not get such treatment, it’s nice to know that the owner cares about the place and your meal. After a few laughs with him, I finished my meal and left delightfully stuffed. I’ll be back, and I’ll note it as a hidden gem in this part of town.

enh… I came in and tried their breakfast because there aren’t a lot of restaurants open in the morning in Whittier. I got 2 sunny side up eggs, french toast, and breakfast sausage all for $ 3.60. Not bad. As a foodie… the quality isn’t there. But you do get what you paid for. The french toast was actually decent. There was a good egg/milk to break ratio. It kind of reminded me how my mom used to make it when we were kids. French toast, I give you 4 stars. I think this place is interesting though. Burgers, Breakfast, and Terriyaki bowls? I personally can’t recommend the food, but I’m interested in going back to see what their burgers are like. The place looks a little dirty. It was a fairly empty joint, and it looked like my table and seat hadn’t been wiped off for days.

What seems to be an ordinary diner provides extraordinary service and great food. Ordered the fish and chips and got a free salad and dinner rolls. The people here are great. Would definitely recommend.

This is the classic typical«greasy spoon» fast food joint. It is far from anyone’s imagination as being one of the cleaner spots to eat in town. Prices are cheap. But, this place is a reminder that sometimes you get only what you pay for. Portions are on the stingy side. And the food is adequate… But, nothing more than that. If you are looking for a quick, small, and inexpensive meal or snack, then this place will work fine. Any expectation beyond that will surely result in huge disappointment… Most definitely NOT the place to bring the family or to impress a date with!
