Chicken Sharma, fatuous salad and hummus, all for $ 10-fabulous opportunity to come in and try this place. Great gelato and location in old-town square

Had the lentil soup and sun dried tomato hummus. Pretty good as I was in the mood for a light and veggie breakfast.

Hummus was spectacular. I ordered the Ahi Tuna tartar lettuce wraps and it was awesome. Our waitress was super and ensured our visit was as good as it could be. we will definitely return here… only without the kids. perfect spot for a date night.

The food her tasted excellent. We had one of the vegetarian paninis and the special vegetable soup of the day. Everything tasted warm, fresh and very flavorful. Their gelato tasted great as well with an exquisite variety of flavors. I will definitely be coming back.

Loved it! We had the hummus appetizer to start, a vegetable salad, and a veggie sandwich. Everything tasted great(although the hummus could use a little more flavor), and the service was excellent. Perfect place to pop by for lunch!

Popped in for a quick lunch and had the veggie sandwich and tomato soup. So good! Yum! Plus took advantage of one of the wine specials at $ 5/glass. Menu looks great so will be back for dinner sometime :)

It’s a little bittersweet to see Caffe Moderne go, seeing as it was my first restaurant I visited after moving to Wichita so many years ago. What began as a 50⁄50 partnership with Old Town dynamo Melad Stephan quickly turned into a buyout, and the buyout eventually turned into a menu revamp and eventually here we are with Allegro Café. Fortunately, the new restaurant maintains everything that made Caffe Moderne appealing — the gelato, the paninis, the fancy back bar — while adding a proper dinner menu, because no one wants to eat light sandwiches on a Friday night in Old Town. I also consider the name change to be a positive, because I STILL believe spelling it «Caffe» was a bad idea. The new menu takes the lightly Italian concept and goes full throttle towards Italy, capitalizing on the pasta-shaped hole that was left with the departure of Luca. In practice, the menu here is put together by the same guy that puts together the menu at Sabor, so if you like the general composition of those dishes, you’ll like these, too — personally I’ve found them to be successfully, but functional to a fault. Like the carnivale sandwich, a vegetarian collection of sauteed zucchini and squash, onions, pesto, olives, artichokes, and tomato on a hearty foccacia. It all works together, though rather than slicing the squash and zucchini, like you may expect would be the best way to serve it on a sandwich, it is instead chopped in small pieces, which means that a lot of bits end up falling out as you bite. If I had to guess, this squash was being used in another dish, and was prepared in such a way that fit both purposes. Kinda. Other dishes were an unequivocal step up — the fried dino kale was serves in abundance and though being listed as an appetizer was a suitable serving for just one person(me). Choosing couscous instead of chips makes for a healthier meal than might otherwise be expected from a restaurant whose defining characteristic is a giant gelato machine. That’s been the biggest problem with the restaurant all along — it’s been very good at the sandwiches and ice cream, but it’s had a lot of untapped potential. More of it is tapped now, and Allegro Café’s out-of-the-way location in Old Town Square means that you can now get a proper dinner

Very tasty! Had the roast beef florentine panini with the house salad. Tried to get the free hummus with the Unilocal special, but they were out yesterday. They gladly substituted for spinach artichoke dip. Will be back.

Wow! What a great change! We LOVED Café Moderne and we were taken aback when we arrived for lunch– we didn’t know of the change. We went in and found ourselves surprised that we were THRILLED with the menu change. Fresh. Modern. Beautiful. Full of flavor. Fantastic! We will go back and try more menu items!

This restaurant is a hidden treasure, it’s in the old town square but it’s tucked in the back. But if you’re lucky enough to stumble upon this hidden treasure you will NOT be disappointed. Immediately greeted by a beautiful bar from an old Kansas City train station, clock tower and all, and even the shiny wood floor! Look to your right and you’ve got a gelato machine with different gelatin to make anyone’s sweet tooth happy, but first take a seat and let’s eat. I’ve never had such a friendly wait staff that just looks like they enjoy working and are happy to see you, very menu knowledgeable, and I noticed they all work together well and made sure things got to tables as quickly as possible. I chose to eat the chicken salad sandwich and my mind was absolutely blown, it had more flavor than any other chicken salad I’ve had. It was so good followed with a «soup of the day» which happened to be some type of curry, also blew my socks off. Moral of this review This place is awesome!
