This place rocks! Super clean and tidy, staff are very friendly and fast. Feels very homey and welcoming. The food is delicious and well cooked. Our favorite combo was the lo mein noodles and jalapeño chicken. Lots to choose from, great place to go for family or a group.

My bar for Chinese buffets is set pretty low but based on what is available in Wichita, China Star is one of the best choices — especially for a weekday lunch value. On this trip to China Star, the food was fresh and hot, selection was standard, ambience clean but minimal. We would come again.

I want to start by saying that the place was clean and their Server attentive. I was immediately seated and asked what beverage I wanted. Unlike Shang Hai Buffet, China Star buffet was NOT heaping with Hot, Steaming food. Each display had an adequate variety in each case but the bowls are kept only moderately full. Which I think leads to the subject that I am bringing up next — the food was lukewarm. Lukewarm food makes me nervous, but since it was 11:10 am and they only opened at 11:00 am, so I am sure things were still fine. I ordered an Iced Tea and then helped myself to a Bowl of their Egg Flour Soup. Then got some White Rice(they had Fried Rice, Chow Mein and Lo Mein) and a sampling of their Chicken dishes, Sesame, Jalapeño, Cashew and Orange. What struck me most was they all tasted very similar. Like Glazed Chicken that had been sprinkled with Sesames, etc. I couldn’t taste any heat on their Jalapeño Chicken. The Cashew Chicken did have some chopped veggies with a sprinkling of cashews. The Orange Chicken was actually pretty good. I also tried their Green Beans and they were cooked perfectly. The Egg Flour soup had no flavor and I didn’t finish it. I had wanted to try the Beef and Broccoli, but I don’t like to overload my plate and the plates are small. They had some Hunan Pork, which I didn’t try either, but it looked interesting. They don’t have a lot of Seafood and their Shrimp Dish looked as though there wasn’t much shrimp. They had an Appetizer Bar with Oysters, Chicken Skewers, Crab Rangoon, Egg Rolls and some kind of Fried Potato thing. I looked at their Salad and Fruit Bar and it was Lettuce, Broccoli Salad, Cucumbers, Rice Pudding, 3 types of Jello, Orange Slices and Banana Chunks covered with some kind of red glaze. I grabbed 3 Orange Slices to end my meal with. Their Desert Bar had what looked like Carrot Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Cheesecake(all very petite chunks) and some toppings for their Soft Serve Ice Cream. Deserts aren’t my thing — but I looked for the purpose of writing this. My Server did refill my Tea once and brought me my check promptly as I finished my plate. It was totaled with no break down, but I believe the Buffet was $ 6.95 and the drink was $ 1.20 plus tax totaling $ 8.80. I left a $ 10. For me, I judge a Buffet by their Salad Bar and to me – this was uninspiring. I realize that some things are not available in December, but I want Onions, Veggie Chunks, Shredded Cheese and extra points for Cottage Cheese!

Well it’s been a number of years but we finally decided to give them a try again a few saturdays ago. I’m happy to say the food is back to how it was years ago when it was the best chineese buffet in town. They really need to change the name to get out from under the old rep. their are new owners so hank and happy are gone. It is very nice to know it is good to eat again. there were a few years where it was just scarry. the place seemed clean. could do with a remodel though.

My criteria for Chinese buffet is good, fresh green beans, lo mein, fried rice, crab rangoon. This place has all of those plus some. I like a lot of the chicken options. Not so much the fried wings, but that’s ok cause I fill up on everything else. They do serve crab legs, but unfortunately no sushi. Possibly the only downfall, if your in to that sort of thing. They have an automatic ice cream dispenser that I always mix with the coffee layer cake! Yum!

Ate here on Christmas Day and walked out of the restaurant to find a diseased tree had fallen on top of my vehicle. Needless to see this place is not an upstanding business as the repair bill was $ 400. The volley of the fourtune cookie between China Star operators and the owner of the building Mr. Cheng, states CUSTOMERSBEWARE even driving your vehicle into the parking lot. Take your chances with this establishment!

Seriously the most disgusting«food» I’ve had in a very long time. My buddy and I were STARVING and buffet sounded orgasmic, but after our second bites my friend couldn’t eat anymore of this mess. EVERYTHING had chewy texture, bland taste, room temperature heat, looked and tasted like it was made two weeks ago. GROSS!!! Literally everyone else in there was morbidly obese and probably didn’t care about the quality of the food. If you’re considering this place and think it couldn’t be that bad… reconsider.

This is a middle level of Asian buffets. Lots to choose from. Some of the chicken times seemed dry from either over cooking or sitting to long. A few of the seafood dishes seemed very questionable and I skipped. Loved there asian BBQ chicken that had a new sign in it. And crab Rangoon were stuffed! Interior and exterior need some tlc.

I’m sure the little 6-legged fellow who made his way up the wall to within 6 inches of my plate wouldn’t have eaten much of my lunch, but when you’re seated in the booth right next to the kitchen and it happens, it tends to put you off your feed — I stopped eating right then. Recent inspection reports from the Kansas Dept of Agriculture and critical health code violations on follow-up visits make me decide that at some point, you have to take the health of you and your family into consideration when making sound dining choices. Two and a half years ago this place was reasonably clean, had good, hot food, and was a cheap-yet-filling dining option. On our most recent visit, a third of the hot buffet options were consistently empty even though the restaurant was maybe a quarter-full. Half the wait staff skulks about like they’re being forced to work off a debt against their will. The Friday buffet sushi is a flavorless, difficult-to-swallow mess, and 3 of our 4 fortune cookies brought at the end of the meal were crushed in such a manner you could read the fortunes without opening the package. On the positive side… they added a turtle to the fish tank at the front. Maybe they can feed my little insectoid dining companion to him.

this is a low-middle class Asian Buffet restaurant. There are better ones here in Wichita.

There is really nothing special about this place, except maybe that it’s NOT gross, which I find most of these buffets to be. The service was decent, and we got to sit right next to the giant fish tank, which was great. To set the record straight, this place has had a really bad rap since a family of cats fell through the ceiling onto it’s dinners. I didn’t see anything that looked remotely like cat. They’ve definitely cleaned up their act.

Chinese buffets are a favorite of my dad, so when I go to visit my family I am usually subjected to them! This place was not bad and we were there on a Thursday night. Food was always being brought out and the crab legs were always plentiful! They had really yummy crab ragoon… spring rolls were a bit oily, but good after being wrapped up in a napkin to absorb some of the grease! Lots of fruit and deserts and shrimp/seafood items. Not bad overall!

Best Chinese buffet in town, hands down. It’s clean and has a great selection.
