I absolutely love the atmosphere of this place. Our server was excellent and though she was new she was so helpful from start to finish! The menu carried some pretty bold statement items I wouldn’t even imagine every trying. While on the other side of things there were a handful of items I would try. I have never really enjoyed goat cheese, but they did a pretty dang good job on their mix and we ate it all up! Then my husband ordered a burger and I ordered a chicken burger. Both were super tasty! I do have to say I was expecting an actual chicken breast on my burger, instead it was a chicken patty(not very impressed with that). Everything about the chicken burger was good, I just could not get over the part of it being a chicken patty, I would have ordered something else if I had known that because I never eat chicken in that form. This is a great place to go on a date. I think the menu changes from season to season, while some items do stay consistent on the menu. Eat local & check this place out. I am limited to a lot of things I can eat but I did splurge on eating things I don’t typically eat like sugar & dairy and enjoyed every bite!

This place is so pretty! I was excited to try F&F out since I had this place bookmarked for quite some time now. A friend and I made a spontaneous stop here for lunch the other day. It wasn’t particularly crowded but not too empty either. About two tables were occupied when we arrived. A lady(who later turned out to be our server) came up to us and told us we could sit anywhere. We decided to sit in the back. She later dropped by again to give us our menus. She was very sweet. However, we waited longer than expected for her to come back to take our orders. I admit I get hangry pretty easily. We ended up getting the bone marrow appetizer. I ordered a brisket sandwich and my friend got a banh mi. Service was slow and our food took forever to finally reach our table. I felt bad for the server as more people walked in for lunch and she was the only one there to not only take orders but to bring food and to check people out. It got even busier after we left. The bone marrow appetizer was delicious. We finished within two minutes. Portion size was perfect as any more would give me a heart attack. My friend and I both enjoyed my brisket sandwich. We did not like the banh mi at all. I was unable to taste the pâté. Just because you add pickled julienned daikon and carrots to a submarine sandwich doesn’t automatically make it a «banh mi.» Maybe they should call it a banh mi inspired sandwich. I don’t know. It wasn’t good at all. Perhaps they should’ve added more pâté and drain out the carrots and daikon instead of pouring the juice(mainly vinegar) onto the perfectly edible piece of art you call«banh mi.» The pork belly slices could no longer retain their crunchiness and were oh so sour because of the vinegar. Overall, I thought everything was overpriced. $ 10 for a banh mi? That’s over the top. I’d come back for the bone marrow though. Our server was friendly but it would be nice if they had more people helping her on busy days. Service: 3⁄5 Food quality: 2⁄5 Atmosphere: 4⁄5

Went here for the first time today over the lunch hour. Ordered their lunch special gin and tonic with an upgrade on the gin. This was my second choice as they were out of the ginger peach decaf black tea. Had an amazing Panini with a side kale salad. And of course Anthony our waiter talked us into ordering the dessert special of the day which was homemade ice cream and blueberry bread pudding. Will definitely come back to this amazing gem of a restaurant.

The service was impeccable. Anthony knew exactly what to suggest. The lunch special was French toast, bacon, sirloin hamburger topped with a fried egg. The pairing was meant to be and made in heaven. The $ 5 lunch special gin and tonic was an added nice touch. The desert of the day was homemade nutmeg cinnamon ice cream paired with a blueberry bread pudding. I would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner to anyone. I don’t think you can order a bad item.

I was excited to try this place because I enjoy the Anchor. This feels like the red-headed stepchild. Weekday lunch was dead. Service was slow. Food was mediocre and overpriced. The Mac Grand Cry was dry and not so cheesy. The black angus burger was pedestrian. Totally disappointed.

Delicious, giant burgers! I had the regular black angus burger and my husband had the blue cheese and bacon burger, they were both so yummy and very filling. The servers seemed a bit overwhelmed with the ratio of guests to waiters but they still got everything out with smiley, friendly faces. We will definitely be coming back!

We came in about an hour until closing and it was quite nice and quiet by then, which I tend to enjoy. Our server was very attentive and welcoming which is a great way to start the dining experience. We started off with the tuna tartare and it was pretty good. The mild taste of the tuna melded well with the rich avocado purée. When my red wattle pork chop came out, the smell immediately caught my attention. The charred aroma of the pork chop was enough to make anyone’s mouth start watering. It was cooked perfectly and had the right amount of seasoning. It sat atop a bed of potatoes that was equally as flavorful as the pork chop itself. My friend ordered a salad and the mac and cheese because it’s her favorite food in the world. She was not disappointed as this version consisted of three cheeses that seemed to work really well together. It didn’t hurt that it had bacon in there as well. She gave it good ratings as well. Overall, it was a great experience accompanied by great food and we will definitely be back to try all of the other interesting fare on the menu.

Very mixed experiences. Good cocktails, ok service. Food is overpriced and not consistent. Duck breast undercooked and barely edible. Unfortunate because I had high hopes for a place like this in Wichita.

Just okay — prices are a bit high considering the ambiance of the restaurant(felt more like a café even on a Friday night). Ordered the olives to start, and the falafel burger. Food was good to great just wasn’t that impressed.

I’m a little late to the party on this college hill spot, I’d been really wanting to try it since it opened over a year ago. So a group of 7 and I got together for drinks and dinner. It was worth the year wait. the service was top notch, the drinks were well made, the ambience was chic and cool, and as always most importantly, the food was just damn good. I had a bite of each burger(my friends and I like to eat family style) and wasn’t underwhelmed or disappointed with a single dish. Thumbs up for Fork and Fennel.

Oh man… this place is wonderful. The interior has a trendy vibe that foodies would love; but, really I saw a wide variety of guests when I was there. Young and old. Couples and Groups. The seating can be moved to accommodate large or small parties which is a big plus since I usually head to Wichita with a large group. The staff there was awesome. Really, he was super friendly, very knowledgeable of the menu, funny and witty, attentive and willing to make suggestions. We decided to take it all in because I had heard great things about this place. Started with the Bone Marrow and a side of Hummus. Both were great. The bone marrow was served with butter toasted bread which really stole the taste away from the marrow. I couldn’t really tell you it was good or bad; but, it was cool to say that I’ve tried it. For dinner, my wife had the Spinach, Mushroom Press. It was plentiful and left her with some to take home(which she didn’t because I ate what she couldn’t… don’t judge). I had the Seared Scallops and Pork Belly(fancy for bacon) and it was the best scallops I’ve ever had. They weren’t rubbery and instead were light and flaky. The pork belly was full of flavor and although it was basically bacon, it was more flavorful than any bacon I’ve run across. Everything was great but what’s crazy is that the extra sides I ordered really stole the show. For real, the roasted potatoes were simple but sooo good. Sometime the simple things are most impressive. I was told they use a special type of butter(apparently not Country Crock) to make the potatoes. All this brings me to the thing that I woke up thinking about the next morning… Mac & Cheese. Just get it. You’ll be glad you did. Overall, I love this place and was assured that with a bit of a notice they’d love to have my large group up for dinner.

Decided to take advantage of the perfect patio weather and walk down the street to Fork & Fennel. I hadn’t been there since they first opened nearly a year ago. I started with the Whipped Goat Cheese, served with crostinis. I’m a glutton for all cheese and bread, I mean what’s not to love?! Needless to say it was absolutely delicious. I also had a cocktail, the Vieux Carre — Templeton Rye, Cognac, Carpano Antica, benedictine, Peychauds bitters, Angostura bitters. I’m not typically a big fan of cocktails, I usually just prefer straight whiskey and water, but this one was not too sweet and hit the spot just right. To be honest, I spent a lot of time researching ingredients on the menu because I didn’t know what half of them were. I admit that I’m not the most cultured foodie. In the end I went with a good ol slow smoked brisket sandwich. It was served with sriracha-roasted tomatoes, honey-sriracha farmhouse bbq sauce & crispy fried onion straws on an egg bun. The brisket was tender, sweet and a step above your typical BBQ joint. The chips that came with it were thick and crunchy. I added a side of Mac & Cheese because I’m an adult and I make my own decisions. The tomatoes in the Mac & Cheese were out of this world, super juicy and delicious. I could eat them all day. The patio at Fork & Fennel offers just about as much seating as the inside does, but with a nice view of Douglas and a cool breeze. We don’t seem to get too many really nice days in Kansas so I always do my best to find a great patio to spend them on when they come around.

We wanted to try a nearby place for a Friday evening meal and saw on Unilocal this place had good reviews. Well, our experience was sure not worthy of a repeat trip if we wanted good food. I gave this a two star rating because we have definitely had better and that can be had across the street in Clifton Square. We found the atmosphere very nice and even though the voice level was on the hight side that was not a bother as people were just having a good time w/o being rude. My wife had the Spinach and Mushroom Press and she reported it generally tasteless while I had the Big Red sandwich and within the second bite bread had fallen apart so I picked up the fork and knife and went at it. The meat quantity was good but the quality lacking as I left the pieces contain fat on the plate. The beer list was generous however the draft beers listed were not what it typical(maybe being different is the intent). We found the customer service fine but not outstanding.

Great atmosphere, killer food, clean-open kitchen, rotating craft beers on tap, and creatively delicious menu. At this point this is the best bistro in Wichita and I really appreciate the classy, urban décor.

Went in on 04/30/2015. I ordered the Halibut Special. Easily one of the best cooked pieces of fish I have had. Period. — They have a unique wine selection, and great cocktails, too

The opening weeks of Fork & Fennel were exciting. The grandiosity of The Anchor combined with the supplier connections of Douglas Avenue Chop Shop applied to a modern neighborhood bistro. The menu was chocked full of bold dishes with rabbit, burrata, and bone marrow, the latter of which the chef was using to do celebratory bone luge shots with patrons. Tables filled up quickly. People were phoning in orders for hard-to-get menu items, ensuring they would be available when they arrived. On more than one occasion we sat down at a table and were greeted by being told what had already been 86’d for the night. Eventually the menu was pared down to things that could be supplied regularly. Many of the moonshots were gone, but what was left was a strong smattering of large and small plates befitting the College Hill atmosphere. The bone marrow is still an excellent start to the meal, even if it’s not followed by a luge shot. The burger is one of the best in town. The tender liver and sweet caramelized onions are a far cry from the purple stinky blob that terrorized Doug Funny. The coq au vin is as big of a deal as people make it out to be, even if there’s as much tomate as there is vin in the sauce. Something as simple as sharing a baguette under the old-timey hipster light bulbs just feels enjoyable. Yet, for ever hit there was a miss, too: over-seasoned pork chops, firm scallops, pork belly that was rendered but not crispy, and a surprisingly bland duck confit sandwich. These aren’t functions of a restaurant finding its footing, but one that has some opportunities to improve. Fork & Fennel shouldn’t be penalized for attempting to bite off more than they could chew; I wish more restaurants took the kind of chances that Gross took in opening Fork and Fennel. In the process of scaling back and refining they lost some of what really made them unique, but what’s left is still a fitting sister establishment to The Anchor. They should be celebrated for their ability to take chances and make Fork & Fennel something better than Wichita is used to getting.

I had a wonderful, affordable, farm fresh meal here this week, and I plan on going back again soon, maybe for dinner next time. We had the goat cheese on toasted bread, as well as the tear and share baguette. Both appetizers were delicious. As good as everything sounded, I decided to order the special, which was a beautiful grilled chicken sandwich with tomatoes, mozzarella, and asparagus pesto. It was so delicious. The homemade kettle chips were also amazing. I absolutely loved everything I ordered: presentation, taste, all of it was just spot on. The décor was also just about as cute as anything I’ve ever seen, without being precious. When you look closely at the bones, you can tell it used to be a taco shop or something, but they’ve just thought of everything, including a beautiful patio and handmade touches everywhere. Our server was lovely, and I couldn’t even be mad at her for being a dead ringer for a young Kate Bosworth. Don’t miss this stop in your Wichita travels!
