Great little brewery with great selection of beers on tap or in bottles. I liked the sandwich and homemade chips.

The Anchor has become one of our favorite places to eat and drink when we are downtown. There is a casual but loud bar atmosphere. They have a great selection of craft and import beers that changes often, I can always find something new to try. The food is very good, I like the burn baby burn which is a hay stack plus chili and jalapeños. They also have good sandwiches and tasty Mac and cheese. The dive bar restroom needs a little work, turn some wrenches on that water leak.

Little Wing(by Jimi Hendrix) was playing in the background as I walked in. Though located in a busy area, parking wasn’t so bad considering it was lunchtime. It wasn’t too crowded and I was seated immediately. I looked around and found myself really enjoying the atmosphere. The music wasn’t off-puttingly loud and the lighting was nice. I looked through their menu for five minutes and decided to go with the steak frites(steak & fries). It took about 20 minutes for my food to arrive. The glass of water with no ice in front of me was unable to chastise my hunger. I was overwhelmed by happiness as the server walked closer and closer to my table carrying my plate filled with nothing else but meat and potatoes. The steak was excellent. I asked for medium rare and got medium rare. Each bite was a combination of savory and juiciness. The fries were evenly cut and were semi-crunchy. Make them a bit thinner and they would’ve been perfect. Overall, I enjoyed everything. For the quality of service and food, I would have to say the cost was absolutely reasonable. Will I be back? You bet.

If I want a beer I’ve never had and the worlds greatest fat kid pill… THISISTHEPLACE! I love the burn baby burn and it never seizes to amaze me. The hell hath no fury is always on point as well! I will say if it had a down side it would be that the beer list isn’t always accurate because things are always selling out. Anytime people come to work from out of town this is these place I send them!

I had the best burger ever. The reason I gave 4 stars because I think they need to work more on service.

What a wonderful happy accident to have ended up here this evening! Delightful old atmosphere, friendly & knowledgeable crew, fresh & delish food for comparable prices! The mac & cheese with pulled red wattle pork and a side salad with house vinaigrette – superb. And the beers are magic!

If there is a place that does it right, its this place with their sweet potatoes fries! This was the first place I had ever been to try them and the only place I order them and guarantee quality satisfaction! They have great burger options, just make sure you order the sweet potatoes fries along with it and you will be happy you did.

The food was good and our service was even better. Not a joint I’d usually enjoy, but my chicken breast and Mac n Cheese was on point! Not over cheesy or salty. Tasted rather light to be honest. Large portion of chicken which is usually rare. The ambience struck as kinda odd, with the layout of the place, but it’s much larger inside than you think based on outside. Good selection of food and alcohol and the menu is a unique fun one.

Love they have a check in offer and it felt like a great place to hang, enjoy a few decent craft brews. Stopped in after a long day at work and did just that but ordered one of their specialty drinks. I ordered he chicken fingers and they were pretty good while others at our table ordered the Reuben. Overall drinks were good, as well as, the food. Enjoyed the atmosphere not too loud or a crazy rock bar.

Their beer list was huge, though there was a lot missing due to the Strong Ale Fest. I stuck to the food, which was a bit more upscale with meats supplied by the nearby Chop Shop. The bratwurst burger did not disappoint. It was juicy and meaty, just how you’d want a burger. I expected the pretzel bun to be more solid in texture, but it was just like a regular bun. The sweet potato fries were a little soggy and the broccoli slaw was nothing memorable. I’d return, b/c there are other interesting items on the menu, and for a gastropub, the price point is not bad at all. Maybe next time I’ll try a beer:)

Easily one of the best places to grab a beer in Oldtown! Their food is great too… people at my table and/or I have tried and loved The Anchor’s truffle fries, sweet potato fries, fried pickles(a little spicy but super delicious), onion rings, chicken fingers, and veggie burger. They obviously have a great selection of beers as that’s what they’re known for; but I’ve had a few cocktails there as well and enjoyed. The place also has a great ambience with wood floors and unique décor. Friendly staff too. I will say they need a better organized drink special list. Went in there on a Thursday, and beers from 2 breweries were on special. Yet, beers on their menu are divided out by type, not brewery. So, people at my table had to dig through their extensive beer list to find the specials — relatively annoying.

The best reuben in three states and I’m not even joking. Everytime I am in Wichita I eat here at least once and my choice never changes, I want the reuben. The service is attentive but not bothersome and the food is always great. Highly recommended.

Amazing fries, amazing drink selection. I tend not to get food here, but when I have it’s always been good(except for the black bean burger, which I didn’t care for… it was too greasy for my tastes… I say as I laud their french fries). I highly recommend their sweet potato fries too, which aren’t too greasy! I’ve never had bad service here, either. Service is always prompt & staff is always kind and on top of things, even when I’ve gone a few times with friends and just had coffee. Others have mentioned parking being difficult, and this is true. Parking can be a pain. But so worth it!

I am not happy to admit that my very first Unilocal review has to be negative, and about one of my favorite places in Wichita! This review is for this one, very bad experience. I will still eat(mostly drink) here, but I don’t think my wife will accompany me again! 1. We waited about 15 minutes to get a table, but were told that in advance, so not a big deal. Once we got to the table, it took 10 minutes to have the server swing by and tell us she would be right back to get our drink order. 9 minutes later(at this point, my wife was timing her) she came back. I asked her what the special was(owner choice) and she said she didn’t know and that she would find out. She left, again, and was gone so long that I ended up walking to the bar and just asking the bartender. It was the New Belgium«Lips of Faith» tap release day, so you would think the staff would be aware of such a cool promotion… 2. We ordered our beers, and our waters, and our kids drink, 30 minutes AFTER we sat down. Thank gawd we had kids menus to color on! 3. Kids drink arrived promptly, but no waters… We reminded the server, and she apologized. And she never. Brought. Any. Water. We didn’t get a water the entire 2 hours we sat there… 4. Our beer order finally arrived, and the beer was in 12oz glasses, not the 16oz glasses we had ordered. I hunted the server down, and another server who overheard my complaint actually ended up volunteering to go get the missing 8oz of beer. The bartender brought out 2 little 4oz tasters with our missing beer, and my wife poured her taster into her half empty beer. I didn’t. I tasted my taster, and realized that the taster was actually the beer we ordered, but the beer we got from our server was NOT the beer we ordered! In fact, they had two very different colors and tastes! My wife was NOT happy that she now had a very unique hybrid beer(since she poured her taster in with her original beer)… 5. Food, delicious as ALWAYS, but came out colder than normal. Obviously had been sitting a while… 6. Server was coughing the whole time. Coughed on my back. Coughed into her hand. Freaking gross… 7. Got our check when we were ready to leave, and the server had charged us $ 2 for the kids drink that came WITH the kid meal. Had to hunt her down AGAIN. Honestly, I spent the better part of two hours looking for our server. 8. Correct check FINALLY came to the table, but did not have a customer copy of our bill. My wife and I, both being veterans of the bar industry, knew this can sometimes mean that the server plans on altering your«TIP» once you leave… Again, this 1 experience was not indicative of the service and food/drink that we know and love, but it was bad enough to lose my wife as a customer, and bad enough that I will have to tell people«yeah, I LOVE the Anchor, but this ONE time…» P. S. What’s with all the old lady servers these days? My servers used to know enough about beer to make helpful recommendations. The last few servers I have had can barely repeat the beers back to me when I order them!

I really like this great place in Wichita. Always good service, pleasant people, and a great fit for old town. Their pastrami is awesome, great reubens, fish and chips, and so much more! Had the duck duck hash during brunch today, very nice dish. The tender duck with the grilled sweet potato very nice. When the place is real busy it can be a bit noisey.

I ordered the blackbean burger with sweet potato fries, wedge salad, and jalapeño caps to go. The wedge salad was a fair portion, and the jalapeño caps were really awesome. The breading wasn’t too greasy, and I quickly got heartburn following their consumption — evidence of quality jalapenos ;) This was my first bean burger, so I was half excited and half reluctant. The flavors were not bad, especially with the sauce they paired with it(not sure what it was). The thing that got me was the texture. Its mushy texture just did not sit well with me, so I won’t be getting this again. However, it may have been more charred prior to boxing it up. Steam does some bad things to crispy items — like my sweet potato fries which looked amazing but were a bit soggy. Next time, I won’t be taking it to go! PS, the 10% off your bill w/Yelp check-in is expired. They won’t honor it. The business should remove it on the app.

In an effort to top off an exceptionally lazy Sunday I decided to take advantage of the warm weather and stuff my face outdoors with my gal. The Anchor has a pretty small patio, can only sit probably 12 people, but it works for me! It’s a little noisy being right on Douglas though. We started off with some chips and salsa. The salsa had notes of garlic and was refreshing. They had $ 4 Bloody Marys so Bonnie took advantage of that while I stuck with my usual whiskey/water. Later on she had a strawberry margarita that she couldn’t say enough good things about. I had the Patty Melt with sweet potato fries and Bonnie had the Baked Pasta & Cheese. The patty melt was pretty bland, but it did come with a tangy sauce that spiced it up a bit. The fancy Mac & cheese was rich and creamy and didn’t disappoint. I was happy to see that after I checked in on Unilocal I was offered 10% off of my meal if I spent $ 35 or more. When I got my ticket I ended up only getting a $ 2.50 discount. My total was around $ 46 so it should have been more. But I didn’t feel like complaining over a few dollars worth of difference.
