Wanted a thick crust pizza and this place had the best reviews. Ordered a large with a bunch of toppings for take out and it was still warm when we got it home to eat. The taste was decent but it was literally swimming in grease! Under the crust was so greasy and the top had pools of liquid. The crust become so soggy from sitting in the grease, mind you for a relatively short time, that it sagged down when you picked up a piece to eat it with the grease drip, drip, dripping as you raised it to your mouth. They cut it in squares which does make it slightly more manageable but all that grease is disgusting. The place itself is old, worn, tired, and pretty nasty. It probably opened sometime in the ’70’s and it looks like that was the last time it was thoroughly cleaned. Tony’s needs a thorough cleaning and DE-GREASING!

Had a BLT grinder. Very good. Very generous with the bacon. Toasted properly, just the right amount of mayonnaise. Waitress was very busy. Only one waitress for the entire restaurant. Food is very good! Will not return though. Too dirty, and obviously not cared for. Seats and tables worn out. Just looks old and battered. Window dirty. Bugs walking inside the windows. Too bad, good good, but it’s a dump!

We in the area for NCAA Baseball Regionals, and ordered 20 pies during a game. Everyone working was extremely helpful. Delivery time was spot on with the end of the game. They even called to make sure it wasn’t going into extra innings. The baseball team raved abut the it. I would highly recommend this place!

Food is good. Tends to be on the greasy side. But the service to me sucks. Seems to be only one waitress waiting on tables. I got wings and a grinder and I was there over an hour. You never see the waitress, she doesn’t come back at all. I had to ask for my check, only got one drink the entire time I was there. I don’t think they know how to smile either. The service always seem like they’re in a pissy mood and don’t you dare to ask for something kinda feel.

Loved the pizza and the service was awesome! My good friend and I met up for lunch last week, and we ordered a large pepperoni we heard it was legendary and we’re obsessed with pepperoni. The waitress delivered our food but it ended up coming out a small pizza and she then realized that it was supposed to be a large. She said no worries I’ll put an order for a large pizza in right away and let us keep the small to start on, we were happy. After we were stuffed with so much pizza she gave us boxes without even asking and the check which she only charged us for the small for her mistake, super nice of her! Most places would not do that. Can’t wait to come back!

I have to admit, I never order pizza from this place. It disgusts me on an emotional level that I dont quite understand. I do, however, order what they CALL a burger: its two half-circles of paper with a meat flavored hockey puck in the center. Its terrible, but it somehow wont make you sick if you digest it, so that’s a plus. The fries are okay though.

I have been eating Tony’s pizza since I was little. It is family owned and operated. Mama comes out and checks on the customers. Makes you feel like your part of the family. When I go to FL to visit they always request I bring Tony’s pizza with me. They half cook it, freeze it. I bring it on the plane. I finish cooking when I get there. Everyone is full and happy. My favorite place by far.(I have them cook it extra crispy). YUM!

I had a pepperoni pie. The pizza here is thick crust, and fine(in the three-star sense). Five star reviews here baffle me a bit, even taking the atmosphere into account, which is very generic. The quantity and quality of pizza are about right for the price, but its just too greasy and the crust has a weak crumb reminiscent of frozen pizza, but I think the dough is just old. For a thick pie, go with Willington pizza, which gets an extra star in my book.

Slammin, i’m talking SLAMMIN pies tossed up here. I’ve had the taco, by far best in the state, i’ve had the meat lovers, talk about a full belly coma. i’ve decided to order their greek style pizza today it is awesome, white sauce, feta, onions and thin slices of tomatoes, By far my favorite pizza delivery to date. Reasonably priced a small pizza fill feed 3 people.

I’m breaking my own rule on this one; Tony’s Pizza is not really a five-star joint. It’s kind of divey, no real atmosphere to speak of, not something I’d usually rate five stars. But the food and the service made our visit warrant the extra star shout-out. Our server was friendly, super-attentive(at one point bringing us some extra sauce and sides after over-hearing us mention it while she was waiting on another table). She seemed to anticipate our needs, bringing take-out containers before we asked for them, making sure we had everything without us having to wait for her to show up. After dinner, she seemed genuinely concerned with how we liked our meals, and talked up the stuff we should try next time(pizza!). Two diners at the booth next to us left just before we did. One woman said to the other«Wow, thanks for bringing me here! That was great.» That’s kind of how we felt after trying so many other pizza joints in the area, but always overlooking Tony’s. I think this is our new favorite. We were having a late dinner on a Sunday evening, so were happy just to find the place open. Even after 8:00 pm the dining room was hopping, which i guess is a testament to Tony’s popularity. Due to the late hour we didn’t want to wait for pizza to be baked, although we gazed longingly at the thick, delicious looking pies on the tables of surrounding diners. So we split an ol’ pizza-shop favorite, a chicken parm grinder, starting with a small Greek salad. The small salad was more than enough for two, and we had plenty to take home. It was a simple affair consisting of just iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cukes, and loads of kalmata olives and feta cheese. No pepperoncini, but those aren’t really supposed to go on Greek salads anyway. And there was no actual Greek dressing available, but the suggested house vinaigrette was delicious and just fine. Everything was crisp and fresh, if not exactly a true Greek salad. The chicken parm grinder was one of the better ones I’ve had. Fresh tasting, moist and crispy chicken breast(not a pressed and formed cutlet), and they definitely don’t skimp on the ingredients. It was piled high with onions and peppers, plenty of cheese and sauce, oven baked. The large grinder wasn’t exactly huge, but it was more than enough for two. We ordered a side of fries which appeared(and smelled like) they were fresh cut, skins still on them, nice and crispy. Again, more than enough and we took half the order home along with some of the sandwich. The only downside, seriously, is the menu. Lots to choose from, but minimalist. No descriptions indicating what or how many items were prepared. Minor complaint, to be sure, but still I would have liked a bit more info while trying to decide what to order. Saving the best for last: this is one of the best deals in town. The two of us ate for a little over $ 20 — and that included a Long Trail draft beer! I’d choose this place for the $ 3 drafts alone! Bud and Coors are only $ 2, and a honey brown ale is $ 4. So, overlook the less-than-inviting façade, which is easy to drive by unnoticed. There is ample parking, the food is very good, the portions are big, and the prices simply can’t be beat. I can’t wait to order a couple of pies(which, our server informed, they’d also prepare half-baked to finish at home, or even frozen if you call ahead. Special orders for party-sized sheet pizzas are also available). Two thumbs up for Tony’s Pizza!

Having family from the area, I’ve been going to Tony’s for years. They make(in my opinion) the best grinders to be found in Willimantic(aka Windham). If you’ve never had a grinder, it’s essentially a sub sandwich, however, you can have the entire thing baked and that’s what a true grinder is all about. I’m warning you now, don’t have a grinder outside of New England and think you’re in the know, you’re not. This is a sandwich specific to the region and I’ve yet to find a grinder that compares outside the New England region. Now, when ordering a grinder you’re going to have many options as there are many varieties. For the sake of this review I’m going to focus of just two types, the two I think are best. If you’re a purist, the true traditional grinder would be the Genoa. Start here if you’ve never had a grinder. Tony’s has perfected it. Also, don’t be shy, order the large, ~ALWAYS~ order the large. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous or have tried the Genoa already, go for the pastrami. It’s not as traditional as the Genoa, but it’s a devilishly delicious heart attack of a sandwich. Simply put, you can’t go wrong with either of these grinders and you can’t go wrong with Tony’s.

This place is iconic for great food, great portions, and a long history of people who will go to great lengths to get this pizza! When I moved to the area over 15 years ago, people talked about this place often. I finally went and now know why. Fast forward to today and a recent international guest that I housed for a couple of days said she HAD to ahve Tony’s Pizza while she was in town. Not only that, but when she lived in Washington State, her husband used to send her her favorite pizza INTHEMAIL as a special act of love. I think that says it all. A pizza post card, perhaps? I couldn’t be happier with this place. It looks kind of like a dive from the outside, the inside is kind of dark and dreary, but you’ll leave with a tummy full of goodness after you visit Tony’s.
