Wilderness Lake Campground & Resort

Always a great time with friendly staff… Used to camp here with friend’s while attending UCONN and we always found the facilities to be clean and responsibly maintained.

Great campground. Owners are great. Everyone seems very friendly. Rustic yet very clean. Nice clean beach and lake. Canoes and kayaks are free to use. Pet friendly. Highly recommend.

After a drive of about three hours, my sister and I arrived at Wilderness Lake. When we walked into the office, which is a lot like a general store, we were greeted by a friendly man, who checked us in, and gave us directions to our tent sites.
Our friends were waiting for us. The sites were nice, spacious and right on the lake. The scenery was beautiful. A few moments later, a pickup truck pulled in with the wood my friend ordered. Talk about convenience! Later in the day, a truck came by and the driver asked if we had any garbage that needed to be picked up.
This was starting to get too good to be true. When is anything ever this convenient? When are people ever so friendly?
We woke up the next day, and did the typical camp things. Fires, swimming, some hiking, and we met more staff. They were friendly, informative, fun to talk to, and whenever you want you can grab a canoe or kayak to use.
The other campers? They’re nice too! Did I come upon the compound of a cult? Am I going to need Kevin Bacon to come save us? Though it eventually does, the sun still hadn’t gone down.
Did I mention pulled pork? This camp had a pulled pork pot luck contest! I planned poorly because I should have competed, but maybe there’s next time.
When the sun did go down, the night was greeted with music. My friends and I listened to the band from our camp fire and decided to go take a look. The band was one man, and he was great.
Okay, there was no cult, just a great camp run by a great family. The facilities were on point, and after about ten years of trying different camps we found one that is dog friendly, came with kindness, convenience and a lot of fun. I’ve never been anywhere that includes garbage pickup. Typically we drive to a dumpster hanging a garbage bag out the window. We all want to come back next year, and we were 13 adults and 7 children. I highly recommend Wilderness Lake.

Lake was nice, uneven lots, difficult for us to maneuver 29 ft travel camper, dirt lots, no tv reception, no sewer hook up, no wifi, no laundry mat, will not come back
