Left the Fairfield in passing all the chains to eat local. Unfortunately Akes’ Old Brick Tavern is up for sale and closed.:-(Ate at the 99 standard pub fare.

Enjoy the outdoor seating. When it’s to chilly the tall bar tables are ok however not a great view of behind the bar and kitchen at times musty smelling. Food is good, great fries! Service has been very good. Think it’s a bit pricey

Great little spot for a romantic dinner, drinks with friends, or family night. Menu is simple and great. Staff is friendly and the owners are present. I have tried almost everything on the menu all with great results. The specials are the way to go but they sell out quick so don’t take too much time deciding.

Pretty decent food, especially the burger and the chicken quesadilla! The drinks, not so much. I ordered a margarita with light salt and it tasted SO strong and a mouthful of salt. I know people shouldn’t complain about strong drinks because hey more for your buck, right? But when you can only taste pure tequila and you came for a standard yummy drink to enjoy with your burger… hmm…

I’ve been there 2x in the past 2 weeks. Won’t be going back ever. The 2 servers we had apparently had no official training. Service was awful. They couldn’t answer basic questions about the menu and were no where to be found once we got our food. They didn’t ask us how it was, if we needed another beverage as our glasses were empty and they got the order wrong… And when they said they’d ask the cook about it and come back … They never did!!! The management clearly isn’t doing their job in training the staff. Food is average, service is poor. Won’t be back! Trust me,. Go elsewhere!!!

We’ve dined here a few times and the food is really just okay, especially for what they charge. The fried things are always over-cooked, everything else is good but nothing special. The open mic night is great and that’s usually why we’re there. But, we always come with a coupon, otherwise it would be more than I could justify spending on average food. The staff are amazing, though, the restaurant is lucky to have them. Ake’s is just surrounded by better dinner spots, I wish they were a diner, that would be something different and great and needed in this neck of the woods!

Average That sums it up. The place is very quaint and unique as are the dishes, but execution is so so. The place lacks any feel of life away from the bar. If you don’t mind average food and sitting on 1950’s diner chairs(wood at least) you’ll be all set, but don’t expect to be blown away. Prices are fair compared to everyone else, but I’m also one who expects servings to be decent size and these don’t impress. Not a bad place to go, but nothing to go out of your way for. I’ve been on a couple occasions and back when the place was called Monty’s, but nothing has changed but the name.

2 stars because the building is charming and clean, and Abbie, our server was so sweet and polite(albeit inexperienced and unempowered), but quite frankly I would give it a .5 based on food and policies. We went to the restaurant at the Hotel’s recommendation, and a quick look at Unilocal.They were out of the dishes we were recommended(calamari). Wings were bone dry, not even the dipping sauces would make them revive. Hummus had an odd«sweet» taste. Wine selection is pretty sad, but usually I can try to make something out of it. So I ordered the Tempranillo which the server stated was«quite popular»(later we found out she was not old enough to drink so she couldnt help with the taste). I took one sniff and one small sip and it was TERRIBLE. Asked the server if I could get something else, and she looked at me… To which I added«charge me if you must but Im NOT drinking this» — PSTHEYDIDCHARGEME… She offered me a sip of something else, which was better, and I ordered that. Then came the entrees. I ordered the scallops with a fried polenta cake(YUCK) and beurre blanc. Best thing on the plate was the beurre blanc. I asked for the Scallops«undercooked» — bud to my left asked for same dish. His came in, 5 scallops. I had 4 because one of the scallops was«overcooked» and she’d bring it out later. Mind you they charge $ 25 for 4 scallops. I could’ve played ping pong with my scallops. But I ate them. Out came the 4th and it was almost perfectly cooked. Polenta cake was bland. Haricot Verts were ok. First batch of focaccia was a basket full of rubber pieces. Next basket was hot out of the oven — much better! Nice plating. Rubber scallops. My other bud had the hangar steak and ordered it «medium rare more to the rare side». Came out medium more to the medium well side — rubber meat. Another diner had the fish and chips. He stated they went to the long john silvers down the road and brought back the fish… New chef she said, so only dessert on the menu was a brownie sundae… SIGH! NONE of us wanted another bite or another drink, and off we went. What a let down! I know how much a bottle of wine costs, and how much profit they are making on a $ 24 bottle where they charge $ 8 per glass — had they TAKENOFFTHEGLASS, they STILLWOULDMAKE A PROFIT, I WOULDVEORDEREDMORETHANONEGLASSANDGIVENTHEWAITRESSTHE $ 8 for the glass she took away as part of her tip, for her time and effort. $ 8 glass of wine that tasted past its prime, they could not take off the bill after they have the gall of charging $ 25 for rubber scallops? I look at the 4 and 5 star reviews, and myself and the 4 other diners simply don’t get it. Poor Abbie, nice young lady. Expensive, mediocre food. My dear fellow Unilocalers, I normally trust you, but in this case, I had a table of 5 all agreeing that the food was less than stellar in a nice setting… I wish I had a fried chicken sandwich at Mickey D’s and picked up a bottle of wine at a local liquor store… Instead Im in my hotel room, blogging and guzzling seltzer to cure my stomach from some bad food. I only had 1 wing!!! I only had one glass of wine and ½ of a polenta cake, and Im in pain… not a happy feeling for a $ 25 entrée INVT!

I’ve been here a few more times since my original review and can honestly say it is my favorite brunch spot in the Burlington area. Love sitting on the patio on a Sunday morning sipping coffee and chatting with friends. I try to makea point to come out here every few weeks even though it’s a bit of a drive from my place.

We dined at about 6pm on the patio which was quiet and perfect because we had 2 kids with us. Our service was excellent and the food was pretty great. I think my few comments on the food would be that the entrees could have used more seasoning. We ordered the day’s special… The eggplant parm had a big pile of sauce in the corner which could have had some pasta on the side to make it a more complete dish. The scallop dinner only had 3 scallops when an entrée should have at least 5. But overall, it was delish. Would definitely return! Thanks!

Monty’s is a great change from the over abundance of chain resturaunts in Williston. We were fortunate to visit on a nice warm spring night and took advantage of the outside patio. Food was good, nothing to write home about, but I would return for another visit. We started with mussels, which were cooked well. Dinner was a Laplatte River Angus burger and fries. Burger was good, fries were run of the mill. Overall a good place for a burger and beer(excellent local beer selection).

My friend and I stopped in for Sunday brunch and were extremely let down. The eggs in my Traditional Benedict were cooked incorrectly. What they called poached eggs were essentially hardboiled. I ate one because I was famished and left the other on my plate along with the overly spiced hash browns. These hash browns were so salty they were inedible. It wasn’t just salt, it was as if they accidentally added the entire bottle of Mrs. Dash and served them anyway. It was a terrible experience and I will not go back for brunch.

My wife and I came here probably about a year ago. I believe it was on a weekend probably around 7 or so. The place was packed, and there was very limited seating, and the table we recieved was right near the entrance in an awkwardly place area next to support beam. It took the waiter about 5 minutes to get to our table and then after ordering almost an hour to get our food(apparently the dish I ordered had been dropped on the floor after being finished so it had to be remade). So why did I give Monty’s a 4⁄5? A. The service, though slow, was fantastic, they were very apologetic about wait and even more apologetic about the cramped space in which we were seated B. The food was amazing, I had the fish and chips, which was cooked to perfection even after having to be remade. I will come here again, maybe on a less busy evening.

Ate out at Monty’s for the first time last week. We were promptly seated, the service was excellent and the food was good for a great price. The chipotle-sweet potato soup was absolutely fantastic. There was live music playing in the bar area. The singer wasn’t really to my preference, but they have a very comfortable dining area separate from the bar/music area so it was not an issue. The atmosphere was very comfortable and would be suitable for a date, a group, or a family outing. I am definitely looking forward to going back.

~~~ Edit: this place was called Monty’s when we went there but they’ve apparently changed their name as I just noticed it now comes up as Ake’s. ~~~ We spent a very pleasant evening at Monty’s this weekend. We met friends at the bar, found a comfortable booth and enjoyed a yummy meal. There is live jazz in the background on Sunday nights which added greatly to the ambiance. It is a nice, casual location. I would give them a star on their chipolte sweet potato soup alone. I am a sucker for anything sweet potato but the chipotle gave it a nice heat with the right amount of kick. Great start to the meal! We also split a solid hummus platter and everyone who ordered a salad to start said they were good. My entre was fabulous — Portobello Napoleon with goat cheese, onion, tomato on top of some tasty polenta. Everyone was happy with their entres — pork quesadillas and seafood risotto. No complaints at all! Service was just right. Monty’s was named after the owners’ faithful Golden Retriever who was growing old at the time they were opening the restaurant… sweet story. I’ll definitely be back next time I am in the area.
I had been meaning to stop in at Monty’s since they first opened but never really had the opportunity out there in Williston. Recently I’ve been there a couple of times and was pleased with just about everything there. The ribs, soups and even the salads(I’ve had the beet salad twice) are superb. Not a bad selection of beers. I was a bit bummed to see they serve Guiness stout in the little«mini» stout glasses(not full pints). Guiness deserves a nice big handful of black foamy goodness, not a sippy cup. I also am a bit off put by the prices, it’s not your typical bar fare pricing but the food is quite good. They have a nice little patio section outdoors and live music often. If you’re hungry and are driving down rte 2, they are worth a stop.
Went here while visiting my girlfriend during Vermont restaurant week, two of her friends invited us out to dinner and i was def excited to eat at a place that felt like it was«home style comfort food» Walked in on the bar side but then went to the restaurant side and promptly seated, they had 3 courses for i believe $ 35 which was wonderful. I do not remember everyone’s exact orders but i’ll just re cap what i do remember seeing people eat plus my own food. The grilled chicken wings seemed to be juicy, tender, spicy but very good, thai spareribs were devoured i was told they were cooked perfectly with a lot of flavor exploding all over the place, pretty sure my girlfriend got the Maine mussels and absolutely loved them and for dessert i got the chocolate chip cookies and ice cream and it was very sweet and just damn good. The only problem was i couldn’t finish it because i had so much food in me already but get that, also they have this dessert it has plenty of peanut butter to it, i don’t know what its called but the only way to describe it is a flaky pastry with a peanut butter center that melts in your mouth it was incredible, my girlfriend ordered that and boy do i wish i had what she had. The dish that did it for me though had to be the Monty Burger, for a burger up in New England to rival the burgers down in NYC where i’m from is just unreal. I’m a big burger guy, nothing like a well cooked and spiced/seasoned medium rare burger with the juices and flavor oozing out of it during every bite. The house mustard, cheddar cheese, and the Laplatte River Angus Farm grade beef that they used was high quality, you could tell the chef knows his stuff just from that burger right there. Also the fries were just the icing on the cake, i think they sprinkled with truffle or maybe i’m losing my mind and it was just parsley, nonetheless this place IS A DEFMUSTWHENYOURINVERMONT!!! If you want to eat like a king for a decent price this is your place p. s.- The executive chef came out and spoke to us TWICE! Asked us if we liked the food and how was everything twice, really nice guy, chatted it up with us a bit, humble, cool, and a great chef, some big city is gonna steal him away soon enjoy him now while you can VT foodies.
Good food and friendly service. The bread and butter is very yummy. Draft beer was fresh. Salad was really yummy. I would have given a four star rating but my steak was undercooked. Has potential for four star.
