This place was just mediocre for me in terms of sushi. It’s not bad in anyway and it’s fresh but I just honestly wasn’t all that impressed. It’s just average. My husband and I came in and ordered carry out because of the kids and also because there’s not much seating(it’s mostly a carry out place). I ordered the California rolls, avocado rolls and sweet potato tempura rolls. My husband got the January special which comes with miso soup, sashimi, seaweed salad and some type of spicy California specialty roll with eel. Everything was good just not special. My husband did like his specialty rolls more then mine and appreciated the fresh sashimi so he’d probably give this place a better rating but based on my meal it was okay. I know I ordered basic rolls but I’ve had all these basic rolls much better at various places. In terms of everything else the parking is easy, service is great, there pretty quick in making food and have packaged ready foods made, and there very affordable. To sum it up I will definitely give it another try and I do recommend you give it a try but maybe more for the specialty rolls and sashimi.

This is the best, freshest sushi I have ever tasted. Rolls can be pre-ordered or made to order. Fresh fish is also available. Space is limited but take-out is available.

Discovered this sushi place while looking around for a Japanese fix near Winnetka. Same owners and staff of Sea Ranch. We ordered the Volcano and Orange rolls. Absolutely delicious! Fresh ingredients, good flavor combos. The staff were warm and accommodating. Coming back again!

Not that great. Fish quality was poor. The vegetarian roll was decent. Service was poor.

I have only been there once, but found it lacking. Very clean and pleasant store, pleasant staff, but the sushi was a little tough. I will try it again, but it will take a little time.

Its gotten a lot better since I first posted my review, so this is my go-to place for sushi from now on.

I love being able to pick out a chunk of fish to have them cut up for sashimi, grab some seaweed salad and some roe on the side, order miso soup, out the door with exactly what I wanted in minutes. I’m picky and don’t just want whatever mix a restaurant chooses, plus I don’t care much for rice, so this place is perfect. Fast options I’ve never seen elsewhere.

Best sushi on the North Shore! Classic rolls without all the unnecessary flair. The freshest ingredients. My go-to for sushi platters, quick lunches and everything in between. They offer a brown rice option and I love the assorted dipping sauces in the cooler. I like dipping my sushi in the ginger dressing. Need extra ginger? They got that, too. Been going once a week for years and have yet to be disappointed. Keep it up, AO — consistently good food and service.

If you want something fresh and fast this is a great place. Not much seating here because they specialize in sushi take out. Fantastic value, good sushi and a pretty good choice of rolls. My go to sushi place when I don’t have much time but still want some good sushi!

Just found my new favorite quick sushi pick up spot. Got a few rolls(spicy tuna HR, spicy scallop, philly, sweet potato) and sashimi and a large miso. Spicy tuna hand roll didn’t have much spicy mayo in it. I’m glad they have a large assortment of sauces you are able to purchase, I got an eel sauce, wasabi mayo(favorite!), and a gluten free soy sauce which is awesome because most places don’t have that! Sashimi tasted fresh. Sweet potato roll was just o.k. Soup was decent considering it comes out of a ‘soda fountain’ type machine, would love to know where I could buy one. Ha.

Good soup! Clean. Very casual. Tasty, beautiful sushi. Friendly staff. Only downside is parking can be tricky. Worth it.

Sea Ranch moved a few doors north in the same shopping center and is now AO Sushi. I use to come to Sea Ranch so I was a little surprised that they were gone. After going into the new location under the new name AO Sushi I asked the woman behind the counter and she told me they moved in April of 2015. The new store is small, but is laid out very nice, efficient and modern. I was surprised by the number of people working in a relatively small space. I spoke to the cashier whom I assume is the owner. She is 2nd generation Japanese or Nisei. I ordered 2 small items, an Unagi roll and a squid salad(both delicious). The squid salad is marinated in sesame oil, w/sesame seeds, brown bamboo, and tiny pieces of hot red pepper to give it a little bit of a kick.

They have added staff and it seems more professional overall. The new premises are cleaner, and the double check all their orders which is an improvement.

Really fresh and affordable sushi. This place is now called AO sushi but is still owned by the same people as Sea Ranch in Evanston. The menu and sushi is of the same high quality as Sea Ranch. Rolls are incredibly affordable with California rolls, tuna rolls, and salmon rolls just starting at $ 3.59. Their to go service is incredibly fast which makes this the perfect place to stop for lunch! This is going to be trouble for my wallet…

I ordered from here for lunch. I got the chicago roll, the ocean roll and the dragon roll. I also got a piece of salmon sashimi. To be honest, the quality was just not there. I was really disappointed by the sushi. From the rice to the fish, it was all very mediocre. I don’t think their prices are a reflection of the quality at all.

It was s very disappointing experience today I ordered 30 $ worth of sashimi and they sliced it up into little pieces that I couldn’t even eat! I’ve never in my life seen sashimi like this In addition there was no ginger or radish in the container Mo called to complain but got no satisfaction I know they just moved but this was not good nor wad the customer service regarding my complaint I live one block away and went there often at their previous location but will not be returning after this experiene Still waiting for a promised return call from manager Emmy! Lol!

Great extremely fresh made to order sushi. Rolls are great. Pieces even better. Just opened 2 days ago. I’ll be visiting often when I’m craving the freshest sushi a la carte.

This is my new favorite sushi place. It’s perfect if you want something quick and inexpensive. Also, it ‘s not a dine-in place. It’s more of a fast-food sushi set up with premade sushi and sashimi boxes for purchase and they also have a menu to order from. They make it in front of you and they usually take 10 – 15 minutes or less to get your order taken care of. All in all, a great place with great service to get your sushi fix if you’re pressed for time.

On the eve of my daughter’s 4th bday(a Friday night) my husband and I spent the night blowing up dozens of bday balloons and watching Wizard of Oz in 3D. And yes, the children had gone to bed & we chose to watch Wizard of Oz. While our social life sure has changed over the past 4 years, our love for good sushi is stronger than ever. And so when my husband asked if I wanted sushi for dinner I answered«obviously!» and suggested we pick up from Sea Ranch. I had high hopes for Sea Ranch based on comments from friends & the Unilocal reviews. Perhaps it was just an off night, but we thought the sushi from here was just so-so. We tried a total of 5 rolls(probably one too many) — everything from basic rolls like the spicy tuna to speciality rolls like the crazy chicago. I wouldn’t be opposed to eating sushi from here again, but I’d rather drive the extra few minutes to Glenview and pick up great sushi from BluFish.* Now that sushi is good enough to complete a perfect Friday night with balloons & The Wizard of Oz. :) *

I love this place! I have been going here for almost 10 years. They are consistent, fresh, clean and quick. They have everything you need for a quick sushi meal. If they don’t have what you like prepared the will make it for you quickly. Everyone is super nice and accommodating as well!
