I have been dining at this location for many, many years going back to when they only served sandwiches and pie. Over the years the menu has developed and they serve a wide range of salads, dinner entrees, breakfast selections as well as their signature sandwiches. Since I dine here regularly, I know all the managers and many of the servers. Everyone is always polite and friendly and the servers are very efficient. Try their crush cheeseburger sometime or their pot roast dinner. Very good. Also the fish & chips or eggs Benedict. You won’t be disappointed.

You know what, this place is not that bad. The food is overall about three stars, honestly. Come here with the family all the time. I’m giving an extra star for their chicken walnut salad — that thing is great, and a hidden gem in itself. I ordered it on a fluke with those pick 3 options. Another deserving star is for their pies — love the banana cream, French apple, pumpkin supreme. BUT in store, they need to start cutting those servings bigger. Stop skimping on the pie when pie is in your name. So, this is tough. I don’t want to give four stars but I don’t wanna give three stars because mostly, I love that salad. If they get rid of that thing, then we’re gonna have a problem. Oh, and they NEED to get themselves a changing table in the women’s bathroom! Tired of changing my 1 year old standing up on the sink in there.

First time to bakers square. Not impressed. Besides their soda fountain being broke and waiting 12 minutes for someone to take our order, the food was sub Par, fries were not even warm, when I asked for new fries they came just as cold. We were one of only about 5 tables in the whole place and service was awful. I highly doubt I’ll ever eat at another bakers square.

I’m so sad that there aren’t that many Bakers Square locations apart from the Midwest! Besides offering breakfast entrees, salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, and pot pies, I am a huge fan of their pies! Growing up, we always had school fundraisers with Bakers Square pies. My absolute favorite is the Banana Cream, as it has a lovely generous vanilla filling with fresh slices of banana, topped with whipped cream and toasted almond slivers. It is oh-so-yummy and not too sweet, and definitely a yummy treat to have after a meal(or before)! :D If bananas aren’t your thing, they have a nice variety, such as Oreo Cookie Crunch, Key Lime, Blueberry, French Apple Cream Cheese, and Triple Berry. If you find yourself in the Midwest, give Bakers Square a try: D +Banana Cream pie: D

For being in Wilmette, this place is run down. The bathrooms are dirty and with just two stalls, only one works. The service is slow and has an «annoyed to be working here» attitude. Looking in the direction of the kitchen, I see the hostess holding her nose up to a pie to figure out what flavor it is. She is holding it with her thumb on it. When you look into the kitchen, the floors look dirty. This place has been around for so long and since it is the only place open late, I understand why people still eat here. But please! Clean the bathrooms, kitchen and shape up your wait staff. Oh and the food is mediocre.

I had the most disgusting experience at the Bakers Square in Wilmette. Arrive and get our seat. I get up to go to the ladies room and the entire door and bathroom had fesces spread on the floor, walls and door. DISGUSTING!I cancelled the food with our waitress and she said since your already grossed out I can let you know this happens all the time. Theres a nursing home across the street. Never returned.

Incredibly disapointing service. Came in on a Sunday night and restaurant was not busy. –waited 25 minutes to be served and didn’t even have silverware –was not checked on except by the manager, Tina –waitress seemed polite but did not offer any reason for the dela –very unusual and will not be returning –was offered a free slice of pie as remediation but still disapointed as slow service was unreasonable

Greasy Spoon, Fork, Knife, Menu. And a sticky table to boot. Service was sluggish, and frankly when the place is as filthy as this was, it is hard to eat the meal, much less enjoy it. Went here twice and I will try hard to make sure there isn’t a 3rd!

I know what you are thinking. 5 stars for Bakers Sq? Jeff you must be mad! Or Jeff you must be working there or something. Let me tell you. Sometimes 5 stars is given for an experience that’s so beyond expectation that you have no choice but to give 5 stars. We came for breakfast. The omelette was fluffy and full of veggies and ham. Hash brown has a nice crisp to it just how I like it. The country biscuit was creamy and rich. The custard pie is like flan on a crust. You put that in a Michelin star restaurant and they can charge triple the price. The server Susan was gracious and attentive. Coffee was unlimited. Maybe I AM mad. Or maybe I am just tired of the hipster brunch spots in the city, full of attitude. But this was truly very pleasant. I know that no one will probably read this review because who reads reviews on Bakers Sq. But I need to give them the recognition they deserve.

Don’t know why my mother wanted to come here, I really don’t. Haven’t been here since high school, when I had crappy taste. Bland boring uninspired food. Chain restaurant middle of the road garbage. Don’t come here unless you hate yourself.

I’d probably only come here again to get some pie to go. The pie is good… the service, or lack thereof, is a problem. I’ve been here twice, and I only returned because the pie is good and I figured I’d give the service a second chance. Both times I’ve been here, it was pretty slow. There were a few servers working, and they had maybe 5 tables total. The first time, we waited for a pretty long time to be seated, even though a few servers noticed us waiting in the front of the restaurant. Our server was not very friendly, and it took forever for him to even show up at our table, let alone get us our drinks. I saw him walk by multiple times before we got them. We ordered food, and got it pretty quick(although we only ordered soup and salad). We never got water or even silverware. We waited for a few minutes for another waiter to walk by(I think it was actually the manager), and asked him for both. He made a comment about how our server kept forgetting to give everyone silverware that night… probably not a professional thing to tell your customers, but alright. The entire time we were there, our waiter never once asked if we wanted a refill on our drinks. We didn’t ask because we figured we’d be done eating by the time we even got them, based on how long everything else was taking. I’d say the only good thing about that visit was the pie. The second time I went, it was almost the same experience. We walked in and waited for a good five minutes before anyone seated us, which was hysterical seeing as how there were literally only two other occupied tables in the entire place. The hostess finally walked out of the kitchen with headphones in her ears(I was shocked by this), and asks if we’re waiting to be seated. We sit down, and the waiter doesn’t show up for several more minutes because it appeared that his friends were occupying another table in the restaurant, and he was talking to them. I will say that despite that, this waiter was much better than the previous one, but still not great. I think the most surprising thing is that both times I’ve gone in, the place has been pretty dead, yet the service was super slow. You’d think if you were only responsible for two or three tables, you’d be able to provide better service. Both times, the fastest the waiters came to the table was when they were giving us the check. The pie is okay, but honestly if I have a craving for something sweet, I’d rather just go to the Cheesecake Factory. There’s better food and much, MUCH better service there.

I echo prior reviews about service Came in git seated and waited — place had maybe 10 customers total. Staff was too busy chatting to be distracted with taking an order I guess. After watching about 5 minutes of hockey on the tube; I left never to return.

When the need strikes for pie, Ridgeview is my fave. But they don’t have blueberry, last night’s crave, so I tried this Bakers Square, which I haven’t been to in years. My slice of pie was small, thin and broken, without ice cream or a spritz of whipped cream. It was kind of sad-looking, actually, and unsatisfying. But the atmosphere was really the problem. The staff was more than stressed, frantic was more like it. My server«greeted» me from behind because taking two extra steps to make eye-contact would take more effort, I guess. While waiting on one table nearby, another waitress was making hand signals to someone else regarding a different table. Checkout lines were long. But truly disturbing was the loud yelling in the kitchen. Pie is a classic choice for comfort food, but this experience provided no comfort. UPDATE: December 2014 Against my better judgment, I thought I’d try this place again. The server made no eye contact, and had a carelessly sloppy appearance. I never got a menu. I ordered coffee; when I received it the server asked if I wanted a spoon. The slice of pie was again small, very very thin, and with a broken crust. In short, it was just plain sad. What little there was of it tasted good, though. Oh, for a decent place with good pie and good service! … because this ain’t it.

I have been going to bakers square since i was a kid and i am so sad to say that something has happened to it in the past 3 months that is tragic! Their food was always so-so but the pies have ALWAYS been out of this world since back in the days when it was Poppin’ Fresh Pies. They have definitely done something to change the pies for the worse. I can’t tell if it is just something the baker has done to save money or what but whether you get a fruit or chocolate type pie ALL are horrible now and have an aftertaste that leaves you not wanting to return. I certainly hope they figure out what is going on at the baker where the pies are made. It is not something just happening at the Wilmette location but at other locations as well. :(

This is not a destination restaurant. It is OK If you have a kid or two and want to grab a bite. The food is bland, the service is marginal, the pies are not as good as they used to be. Much better options in the area.

As for food chains go, it is reliable. The food is okay but the pies are what you come for. I was in the mood for breakfast and didn’t want to wait in long lines and long service time to eat so this was good and their pancakes were really decent. They did my eggs just as I ordered ‘over easy’ and hash browns cooked like I like them. I’ve been here for dinner and lunch and the menu is not as appetizing then, but prices for what you get are decent and sandwiches are not overflowing with meat. Why go to Baker’s Square? …for the Baker’s pies!

For Food? Eh… maybe try someplace else. For Pie? Yes, please! The pies and desserts here are awesome. The food is just okay. Free Pie Wednesday tends to be very busy. We came later in the evening on a Wednesday and it took a little while for a hostess to come and seat us, but it was understandable as it seemed pretty busy. Food here is okay, there are better food places nearby. Although on Wednesday if you order a dinner/entrée you get a free slice of pie! But if you don’t come on a Wednesday, better to skip the entrees and just eat pie.

While its not their fault, this location pulls in a disproportionate amount of seniors as their customers. Again not a big deal, but it does cause service to slow down. The food was your standard fare, but service here was really bad. Getting soda refills, checking on food, etc took forever.
