Corona Daze Charters

We chose to contact Mike after doing a lot of research on the web for a fishing charter near N Topsail, where our family we staying for a week on vacation. His seemed the most flexible and had decent rates. Only a couple of us had done ocean fishing before so we didn’t know what we wanted to fish for and definitely weren’t too experienced. The number listed was his cell. He answered on the first try and walked me through how many people we could fit on the boat, what we would fish for, what to expect, etc. We planned on a half day charter mainly for Atlantic Spanish Mackerel 3 days later (I called on a Sunday and he had a half day Mon or Wed available). We had the max of 6 passengers so he said fishing for mackerel would give us a lot of action and would catch a lot of fish. He touched base the night before to tell us where to meet (depended on the tide, etc.) and to make sure we were all set. He provided all the bait and everything and we didn’t need licenses. There was no deposit or anything. Just cash when we got going. He also cut us a little bit of a break for the cost for each additional person. We had to drive 45 min to Wrightsville beach because it was also the 4^th of July and he said boat traffic wouldn’t be as bad there. Sure enough Mike got us going right off the beach and we started catching mackerel pretty quick. He said it was an off-​day maybe because of a cold front coming in so we caught much less fish than expected, but it was still a good time. He was nice and clearly very knowledgable and experienced plus his boat was very clean and updated. Take Dramamine the night before though for sea sickness. You also get to keep anything you catch. When we were wrapping up Mike filleted our fish for us to take home at no extra charge and even gave us a recipe and instructions on how to prepare mackerel. We ended up having more than enough fish for 11 people and it was delicious! Not overly fishy at all. A half day was about 7am-​11am. We feel guilty because we forgot to tip him but we would definitely recommend this charter to anyone! He mentioned for a full day he can take you to fish for mahi and king mackerel way off shore which would be fun too, just more expensive.
