Great bar. Great sound system. Great mix of music theme nights. You can hear any genre here and it is music you can FEEL. Brewtal does a great job bringing in a spread of talented artists. The bartenders are fast and friendly.

Right in the center of town. Across street is where cops keep watch over the city center and where they sell closing time got dogs. Live. music and over 21 crowd, even male to female ratio

It’s a great place to see live music, one of the best in town for local/regional acts. The scene is kind of hippy but I guess I’m also a little hippy as well so that be why I like it so much. Despite the name it’s not a Whiskey bar and it doesn’t have a huge selection of anything in particular. Week days are often slow but the week nights are usually crowded.

Bummer about the reviews below. Here is my experience this past weekend. We heard great music coming from inside, the band cover was only $ 5 and there is a huge dance floor, standing room only for 2⁄3 of the bar. The band, Millenia Funk-n was so incredibly good with great vocals guy and rippin guitar dude. There were 5 of us who just laughed and danced all night. There were no incidences, everyone seemed to be enjoying the band, dancing and drinking no differently than other bars downtown. the dance floor ebbed and flowed with crowded-ness, typical. I was the DD, so not drinking. The bar tenders were sweet even though they were exhausted by the end of the night. They kept serving me my non-alcoholic drinks without an attitude. Early, we were all at the River Rat next door, and even though I tipped the River Rat bartender a dollar for every glass of water, she visibly scoffed at me. Whatever. It was nice the bartender in the Whiskey had more social graces when it came to serving. Someone has to drive sober, just sayin. In summary, I danced and laughed so much at the Whiskey. I can’t wait to see who is playing there next!

To be fair, Whiskey has no pretenses– it’s a standard bar that focuses on the music venue and the basic bar. There’s not extensive list of whiskey despite its name. It’s just a name to say they serve that standard alcohol and then some. Saturday night was staffed with the standard cute bartenders who probably take some relief in the few sober patrons that don’t bark at them and a cover at the door for the band. Here’s what whiskey they do have: Jack Daniel’s/black label, Jim Beam, Maker’s Mark/46, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve, Four Roses and Red Stag This is what they lack: Baker’s, Buffalo Trace, George Dickel, Heaven Hill, Basil Hayden’s, Booker’s, Knob Creek, Corner Creek, Ezra Brooks, Eagle Rare, Widow Jane Bourbon(ok, so I have yet to find a place in NC with that one) I’m not into whiskey rye or scotch, so I can’t comment on those. But don’t mistake this place for a specialized whiskey joint(try Durham for that). This place is better know for its music venue, cheap drink specials and the smoking outside.

Walked in with my girlfriend and I ordered a jameson while she was picking hers. Bartender gave my the whiskey and said 6. This meant he wanted to be paid. I asked if it was ok for her to get a drink so she ordered a blue moon. He got the beer and put it infront of her and said 6 and 4 or else 10 together. No please or thank you or welcome to the bar. We left after the drink at around 10 o clock and there were no other customers in the bar, wonder why. Went next door to another bar and they were quite busy. One star cause the musican was good, it was a last tuesday night.

It’s called the Whiskey and I drank vodka, I probably should have had some(Whiskey) but I took care of that(Makers and Sour) at Pravda, the vodka bar across the street. Guess I have my liquor signals crossed. ROOTBEERFLOATSHOT! Holy sweet sassafras! A very VERY large shot(more like a drink; it’s served in an old fashioned glass) of vodka and rootbeer and some cream liquor. Must drink fast or it will curdle…
