Loved it! It was quiet at lunchtime on a Thursday so wasn’t sure but it is a college town and they just finished up the semester. Food was great! Very fresh and authentic. Fresh made guacamole, crispy lettuce, delicious enchiladas and salsa! Highly recommend!

Jose’ is the reason. This is the season! Excellent, authentic Mexican fare. You know, with so many Mexican places around, it’s kinda hard for one to stand out as exceptional… This is it. Not so much that his food is that much better(although it is as good as it gets) I mean, Mexican, if it’s authentic, has a limited palate of spices and flavors; if it’s prepared properly it tastes the same as the other twenty joints within twenty miles. The different thing in this place is Jose’ himself. Jolly and helpful, Jose’ makes every visit special. He is happy to explain and describe unfamiliar dishes… he will even take you back into his tiny kitchen and SHOW you. Take a few minutes to chat him up, and his sincerity and friendliness will bring you back again and again! An undiscovered gem if a restaurant FIVESTARS!!!

The food was great– Jose is a great cook, waiter and host. I had the daily special which was a chicken quesadilla with onions, peppers, mushrooms and some great seasoning. Two thumbs up, Jose… keep up the good work!

Jose is a five-star, stand-up guy. I rated this establishment 3 stars, but don’t let that put you off – 3-star(closer to 2.5 star) Mexican on Unilocal is a 95% A when graded on the Jessamine County curve. Besides, I don’t know how much of a market there is for true authentic Mexican food in Wilmore, so I can’t hate on Jose for that. An enjoyable meal.

Wilmore doesn’t have a lot of restaurants to offer, so it’s pretty fortunate that there’s one this good in town. We came here for lunch and I’m happy we did. It’s a bit of a hole in the wall, but what it lacks in atmosphere it makes up in quality. The food was wonderful and the chips and salsa are some of the best I’ve had. The menu isn’t huge and it’s more authentic than the Tex-Mex chains most people are used to — both are good things in my book. Plus everything is very reasonably priced. All this paired with the great, personal service and I can see why this place is so popular with the locals. I would not be surprised if we stopped by here again next time we’re in the area.

Authentic Mexican food prepared to order by Jose. This place is a gem! Jose greets you, takes your order, prepares the meal, and serves you. He’s a one man show. In the kitchen he’s The Mexican Wolfgang Puck! I’ve eaten Mexican food everywhere, but this place is THEBESTHANDSDOWN!

Wow. 5 stars is an understatement. It’s called La Casa de Jose because Jose, maybe the nicest man with a kitchen, often cooks your meals to order himself. It’s a hole in the wall, the menu is small, but the flavor is authentic and the meal inexpensive. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try.

Amazing authentic Mexican food! Great selection of Jarritos Soda. Don’t come here if you want American food at a Mexican restaurant.

This little gem is worth finding. Jose’s place is one of those genuine«hole-in-the-wall» places that you have to go and find and experience the food he prepares. Huge portions for the money, and my mouth is watering as I type this.

Warning: This place became an iconic part of our brief stay in Wimore, Ky, so I’m a little biased. But we found it because the hotel clerk told us, «Don’t go there: it’s too authentic.» Boy, is it. Jose, the owner and operator, served us even though it was late and we were the only people there, then came over and sat and talked with us well after closing. We became friends outside his restaurant, but he does the same for many people who walk through his door. Every experience since, whether the restaurant was packed or not, was excellent. His homemade salsa is absolutely loaded with garlic and cilantro — we have tried to replicate it but can’t. His chile relleno is perfectly cooked: crispy on the outside, perfectly gooey on the inside, while the chile retains a perfect amount of crunch — not soggy or leaden(this dish is not always available). My favorite was his tostadas de tinga — once, he asked if I wanted to try it really spicy, and it set my head of fire. Perfect. Try it! It is waaaaay to authentic!
