Sorry to say«what a disappointment»! Looking so forward to meeting my friend there and enjoy a lovely meal. They were not busy so hard to understand why they would serve burnt toast with the escargot. Had the farm raised filet. Asked for medium rare, it came rare. Had 2 bites and that was it. Didn’t want to send back because afraid of what people say they do. My friend had the pork chop. It looked fantastic, but it was not cookrd through — pink inside. I think we all know pork has to be cooked. Waitress knocked 50% off hers and nothing off mine. Oh well, thought Winchester was finally getting a few choices in dining, but won’t venture there again for a while, if at all. This is the 2nd time being disappointed.

Came here on a Saturday night around 8:30pm, as it was one of the few places open past 9, and was seated right away. Our waiter was friendly without being intrusive. The ‘molecular gastronomy’ cocktail was just a rosemary infused vodka drink — not the most exciting or innovative, but definitely tasty. I ordered the duck breast, medium to medium rare, and it was gorgeous. My friend’s pork chop was massive, but a little dry and underseasoned; great mustard though. Overall, I was impressed to find this reasonably priced, high quality restaurant in such a little town. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Winchester for a weekend.

My daughter and I had dinner there a month ago. She had the escargot and loved the flavor; with it being her first time having snail, the texture was not to her liking but hey she is 12. I tasted it and it was seasoned well and not over cooked. She proceeded to have the flank steak mr and she asked for her vegetables to be cooked crispy, which were done to the point of not being burnt, but just done to her liking. I ordered the scallops which were cooked perfectly. Btw my daughter is a food snob. Her mother has exposed her to a lot great food. The cocktail menu looked amazing but i could not partake. I would give this place an A+. If you’re looking for a place that is child friendly and your child is willing to eat a medium pork chop or a medium rare steak then this is the place you want to go. Also, they were more then willing to make mocktails for my daughter.

bake, is a new next-door endeavor by eM(with whom I’ll confess I always forget about and have yet to try) that takes the spot of the previous bakery. The prices are excellent for a decent spread of bakery items. The cinnamon roll was so good, one was not enough. I mean it was, but it, well, wasn’t. My scale may have moved up that day. Will be back to continue testing out their offerings. I imagine more attention will be paid to creating a more cozy atmosphere – I think they are slowly focusing on quality and testing out creations. As it stands now, it feel a bit sterile and soul-less. Again, I think this is a work in progress and I’m excited to see how she grows. :D

In the city for a work trip I found this little place. Came right out of work around 5:30 so the place was empty. Ordered he escargot app and the seared scallops main. The escargot was delicious but I would have preferred it not swimming in the garlic butter and the bread was really. The scallops were cooked perfectly wand served with a side of delicious couscous and asparagus. Great find. Locations is in a nice quiet area but parking was a bit difficult.

Great food, amazing wines, crazy good desert and the owner spend time with me talking about cocktails and wine. The atsmosphere was cool also. This restaurant is now on my list when i travel.

Incredibly slow service with no apology from the staff when we waited an hour after ordering our entrees. Food was lackluster, definitely not worth the wait.

Wow! Thank you Will, owner and chef, for the most memorable meals and experiences during our daughter’s wedding weekend. I hosted a bridesmaid luncheon for 10 the day before the wedding. Liz who communicated with me about logistics was so easy to talk to and make the luncheon just what I envisioned. We had our own room above the restaurants. Cozy and light filled with windows looking out on the quaint street of Old Town Winchester. In the same room that evening we treated 17 of our out of town guests to dinner. I brought in 12 votives to add to their many votives casting a soft glow and outside the windows the street light added to the ambiance. Unlike the luncheon which I had set a menu, our guests ordered their own and absolutely everything was wonderful in flavor and presentation. Guests raved. Our server was magnificent and handled all orders with a good sense of humor and a great knowledge of food. I highly recommend eM for events as well as a personal dinner.

Oh my! My hubs and I celebrated our anniversary there and were not disapointed. We ordered the two cocktails that were so refreshing! Mr. Belvedere was perfectly sweet. We had the mussels for an appetizer. They were cooked perfectly and the wine and garlic sauce was so tasty!(We dipped our bread in the sauce, it was that good:) Hubs ordered wild boar pork chop. He said he really loved it, except for the blackberry balsamic glaze.(which I loved) So he just put that to the side with his knife and dug in. I ordered the filet. To. Die. For. Don’t scoff at the price, just get it and you’ll be so glad you did! We’ll definitely visit again. Thanks for a lovely evening out!

After walking around Old Town Winchester and looking at various restaurant menus we were going to head out and try our luck elsewhere. Luckily we came across EM. Liked the menu that was posted and walked in. Our waitress Jennifer was amazing she was able to share her knowledge of the dishes on the menu. I explained that I had many food allergies and she was extremely helpful. My husband and I shared the popcorn escargot — it was amazing. The batter was very light like a tempura and the escargots where perfectly done(not chewy!). My husband had the hanger steak(perfect medium rare) he raved about the quality of the meat. I had the Wahoo –which was perfectly prepared. The Wahoo was a very large portion more than I could finish. I’m not a grapefruit fan but the grapefruit and tonic beurre blanc complemented the Wahoo well. For dessert we had the chocolate flourless cake — it was incredibly moist and beyond delicious. The food was amazingly delicious and the quality was superb the presentations of all the dishes where creative. We will definitely return to EM when we return to Winchester.

I was blown away by the service at this place. We went valentines night, one of the last reservations, and you’d expect the staff to be exhausted and ready to go home but they were so warming and wonderful, and the food was spectacular. We were in complete silence enjoying it. Their drinks are great too! I highly recommend it.

I guess it all depends on what you like… I will say the food was delicious and creative, and the presentation was perfection. Really, the flavors were unique and stood out in a very positive way. The big drawback for us was the size of the portions. After taking two hours to get through the meal(for four people — slower than our liking), my husband and I had to pick up a pizza on the way home because we were still so hungry. The atmosphere is nice and service was pretty good, though not above any other establishment in town. For the price and the portions I doubt we’ll return.

We ate dinner here last week(a Tuesday I believe) and arrived without reservations at about 8:00 p.m. We were seated promptly which was very convenient. For a restaurant that serves such high end food the atmosphere was so casual and relaxed. We felt very comfortable – nice dim lighting and you can see the kitchen from the seating area. The only downside is that the bar area is about 2 feet from the dining area and there was a horribly obnoxious salesman with some clients behind us. Our waitress told us it was ½ price bottles of wine night which was also a nice surprise. My husband ordered a martini. He asked for blue cheese stuffed olives but the waitress said they didn’t have any. I would think they should have those. We also ordered a Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc mix bottle since I was getting fish. It was really great. I don’t eat meat(just fish) so we started with the artichoke bruschetta. Then for our entrees he had the pork chop and I ordered the sea bass. His was supposed to come with brussel sprouts which is part of the reason he ordered it. Our waitress came back from the kitchen and said they were out. Really? This restaurant chooses their menu daily and they ran out of a staple ingredient? So he was stuck with ordering another starch. He really loved his pork chop and said it was great. He’s not very into food so that is a compliment. My sea bass was cooked perfectly. However I found the risotto it was served with was very dry. Additionally the only sauce was a brown butter which lacked that special something. All in all it was unmemorable. I had higher expectations. I do want to note that I called our manager over at the end just to tell her how nice our waitress was. She was so friendly and attentive. I give the great staff service there 5 stars. We will try it again when we are in the area but I hope next time a restaurant such as this would have all of the ingredients in stock for their specialty menus and also that their fish entrée would have more flavor.

Took my niece here this week for her birthday dinner. Yum! I can’t wait to go back. Local sourced, very fresh ingredients, normal portion sizes, prepared healthier then most options around Winchester — and yet so much more delicious. I had the blackened Wahoo(fish) with black bean cake and it was incredible. Katie had the pork chop with grilled local peaches and loved it. For dessert we tried the flourless chocolate cake(very rich, very good!) and the angel food cake. The angel food cake did not disappoint! The restaurant itself is small but comfortable, and not so loud that you cannot hear someone at your table talking. Full bar is available as are specialty drinks and wine. The service was exceptional. Wednesday nights is a special menu, and alcoholic specialty drinks can not be made non-alcoholic for those not wishing to drink(and there are no options for this besides coke products). This was my only reason for not giving this place 5 full stars. Located less than one block from the Old Town walking mall, easy parking and a nice place to stroll after dinner.

We were visiting the area for New Years Eve and I wanted a restaurant that offered an open menu(not lame prix fixe) so I was pleased to find such high reviews for eM and an open menu still accepting reservations. We literally got the last table! Their cocktail list is a little masculine(think whiskey, ginger beer); there IS one cosmo but no one drinks those anymore so my friend and I ordered a lemon drop and french martini, which their mixologist executed flawlessly. Our men ordered the moscow mule, which was actually really good, and one of their English beers(that he kept raving about) so I truly believe there is something for everyone. Their NYE menu was totally different than the one online unforts(no ceviche or ribeye), however, we started out with the mussels and GATORBITES, of all things. The broth from the mussels was divine and the gator bites were surprisingly tender; the remouloude it was served with was addicting. For entrees, I ordered the filet(cooked M to perfection). It came with some sort of a blue cheese polenta cheesecake… holy mother of god, it was OUTOFTHISWORLD. I have never tasted anything like it in my life. Everyone at the table was all up on it. It stole the show, even over the filet. Other entrees ordered: scallops, marlin, and lamb shanks. All excellent and cooked to perfection. I have to say, I wasn’t sure what to expect with this place since many reviews stated how small it was but it actually is really cozy and chic inside. It got a bit lively at one point but it WAS New Years Eve and it’s an intimate restaurant. It’s upscale food, but laid back ambiance… NOT stuffy. We drove an hour to eat here because Zynodoa in Staunton had a prix fixe menu so if you’re looking for a nice restaurant in the Shenandoah area, this is your best bet!

We came here for brunch — everyone was friendly, and we were seated by the window at the pub table/chairs. My husband and I shared the Seared Scallops and Loaded Bacon Potato Hash — the scallops were perfectly seared and perfectly seasoned, and the chunks of potatoes with the bacon was slightly creamy and delicious and complemented well with the 3 scallops — even though the dish was a little pricey(about $ 17), it was sooo good! They also give you some coffee cake and cranberry/orange biscuits while you wait for your food. I would love to go back and try their Escargot Puff Pastry and their Grilled Octopus — their dinner menu changes dependent on the season. A very cute place that is relatively new in downtown Winchester — yum! Definitely check them out! +Seared Scallops and Loaded Bacon Potato Hash

5 stars. Probably the best place in Winchester on the walking mall. This gem of a place has some excellent dishes that are served creatively. Sauces are matched with the food to impress. When I asked for a slice of perspective, I was not short changed. Just kidding I would never ask for that, though tempting sometimes. The staff is very friendly and works diligently at keeping glasses full, speaking of which, my Old Fashioned was the best I’ve ever had and is was served to the brim… as were all of our family’s mixed drinks. Five star pours! Heck Ya! I’d go here on a date or a nice dinner with my family.
