Excellent food and service! We had never been here before, but chose One Block West because we wanted a special place to have a celebratory lunch after my grad school graduation. We are so glad we did. It was an outstanding meal. The salmon entrée, baby beet salad with goat cheese, and shrimp & grits were amazing, as were the chocolate apricot crème brulees. Yum! My only regret is that they are so far away from where we live.

The service was slow the salad they made they tried to get fancy not sure what they put in it not good. It was even hard to eat. The duck was fine not amazing the put the same salad mix on it heated. They did have nice hot bread. The waiter did even ask me if I wanted wine. I would not return. I came here because some of the food on Unilocal looked great things they did not have.

Hidden away on a small alleyway was this little gem. Theres pain parking everywhere but there’s some spots outside for customers. I was in Winchester for work and found this place(glad I did). I’m assuming people normally make reservations cause they were surprised and scrambling to seat me which was really awesome if them. Service and Environment: Inside is nicely decorated with some soft jazz music playing in the background. The staff here is super friendly and helpful. I can tell this place is meticulous with every detail based on the level of effort displayed by the staff and the overall experience. Food: First up was delicious fresh bread, careful it’s HOT. Next up was the Brussels sprouts and pork belly. When it came out the dish perfumed of balsamic. But when I bit into it was a nice balance of sweet, sour, tangy and caramelization. The short rib risotto came next and it was heaven. It’s risotto mixed with braised short ribs, top with spinach, more MEAT and dusted with cheese and fried onions. Last came dessert and I ordered the Pineapple One Block West a Rum flambé pineapple, coconut sorbet with toasted coconut. It smelt amazing. It’s gooey deliciousness with a mixture of the warm sauce and the cool sorbet and crunchy toasted coconut. If Ed ever opens up in Toronto, Canada someone please let me know!

Fantastic! Just moved to the area and was looking for an upscale creative meal… this was it! The highlights of the 7 course meal were the perfectly cooked scallop on top a truffle French toast, peppermint sorbet, and the caramel parsnips flan that paired perfectly with each bite of duck! Seriously fabulous! The wine pairing added the extra dimension! Loved it!

The food here is FANTASTIC! The scallop and pork belly is ridiculous, so good. We ordered the crab cakes and risotto and they were both delicious. The staff was extremely friendly, and it was a great experience. I can’t wait to go back. Restaurants like this make me happy to live in Winchester.

Way over priced for what it is. This is the second time I’ve tried this place and the only decent thing is the short rib risotto.

For the second time, my wife and I had dinner at One Block West, and for the second time, we had a fabulous experience. From the décor to the live solo guitarist to excellent, attentive wait staff, our experience was superlatively memorable. Oh, and wait, the food! Careful preparation, great portion sizes, and never-overcooked plates make this place a gem. Excellent variety of dishes that doesn’t overwhelm the diner with too many choices, but provides menu item after menu item of interest. I don’t think there were any dishes or drinks that I wouldn’t have tried. May we dine again with you soon!

Lovely lunch on a Friday afternoon. The service was just right, attentive but not overdone and our food selections were all outstanding. Rockfish special, butternut squash bisque, and shrimp and grits. The décor is nicely done and the seating comfortable, nice separation of spaces and a little tucked in bar area. This was our first visit but we will be back!

Great food. Hen of the Woods mushroom appetizer was worth the dinner. Excellent wines, super friendly staff.

I was actually very excited to eat here with the local food it serves and have been meaning to go for some time now. Food was great. However, I was disappointed with the lunch service. I just expected more from a server at a place like One Block West. Our first time there I would of liked her to sell me on some food options. I don’t want to nag on her too much here because she wasn’t awful, just a lot of little things added up to kind of mess up my experience. Maybe it was just the day, and I may give it another chance.

The best meal I’ve had in Northern Virginia. Bought a weekend place out here 2 years ago and haven’t found a great restaurant until tonight. Absolutely everything was perfect. Started with the goat cheese bruschetta-ridiculous. The gnocchi with morels was to die for. Ended with the chocolate bread pudding-OMG. Probably a bit too sophisticated for this. area Come to DC –we’ll appreciate you!

Overall: Not bad. Probably won’t do it again though. The steak tartare was unbelievably good. Charcuterie was alright(we’re not pâté people though, and the platter included duck liver pâté and a duck rillette). The ricotta gnocchi with morels was quite good. Lamb chops… quite undercooked even for medium. Due to their thickness, they were cold and raw against the bone. The grill marks looked fantastic though. I’ve read the reviews, and completely expect the chef to come here and«correct» me, and that’s fine. We like what we like, and vote with our dollars, and once was enough.

Had another great dinner and experience last week with my wife celebrating her Birthday. As always Ed’s creativity and boldness comes through on the plate. You won’t find his level of presentation anywhere within the region in my honest opinion. As with most dinners I am always on edge picking a different bottle of wine, but the notes and selection on their wine list are to be reckoned with. We were even surprised at an earlier visit that our server was able to recall the wine we had at our previous visit which was about a month prior. Overall One Block West is a hidden jewel. Ed and his staff will provide an enjoyable experience. Be sure to check out their special features such as the chefs tasting.

We had an absolutely fabulous dinner here in October 2014. We stopped in on a Thursday night as part of a weekend away. The restaurant was very quiet and we enjoyed some personal attention from the staff. Everything from the wine to the dessert was wonderful. I would suggest ordering whatever the special is as that was easily the best thing that we had. Would happily return for a special occasion.

What a find! The food was fantastic. Every bite, from the salads to the entrée’s, was delectable. The Risotto with Porcini Mushrooms was, by far, the best I’ve ever had. The menu was full of creative variations. The wine selection was extensive. Even the live music, a folk singer on an acoustic guitar, was unexpected and thoroughly enjoyable. We would make a special trip here from DC again, just to dine at One Block West.

Don’t make this a stop if you are just looking to have a glass of wine. This is the most bazaar setting for a bar I have ever seen. It only has three or four bar stools in a secluded tiny room that is painted purple. The space clearly isn’t intended to host clients that just want to stop in for a drink. The only way you get service is when the staff runs in and out to get a beverage for their dining clients.

Winchester is do lucky to have this little jewel nestled on South Indian Alley. Their love if food shows in every bite. From the scrumptious bread and taste of the green olive oil to the last bite of chocolate truffle not one item is neglected. I had the beer and arugula sad that was the best I have had anywhere. I could not pass up the Chicken of the woods mushrooms which I had never eaten. Yes, texture of chicken and mild tasting served in a piccata sauce. A wonderful combination. My entrée was chanterelle mushrooms with pasta and pancetta, very rich and flavorful. Also crab cakes were selected. Generous tasty and fresh. Served with a vegetable vinaigrette and mustard dipping sauce. Desert with roasted pineapple, coconut sorbet and toasted coconut. Lovely end to a great dining experience. Eat out often but eat well!!!

Has to be the BEST restaurant in this area. He could easily compete with the 5 star DC scene. The food is divine. The service is excellent. The staff is and knowledge and professional. The atmosphere is relaxing, cozy, and hip. I love his food and wine pairings. His creations are unique and delectable.

While the food is good and the service is usually ok, I can’t endorse this place at all. They publicly ridiculed customers for not leaving the tip that they wanted, tell them to never come back and have belittled their clientele through various forms of social media. The owner must have very little business acumen to have felt it was a good idea to post a picture of the tip and share it on Facebook, especially in such a small town. Called out a couple of ladies because the tip they left wasn’t sufficient. Stay away, unless you like being ridiculed.

I’m not sure that anything could have prepared me for the mega eye roll that I received at the close of my dinner here recently. After having a very okay three courses, our generally-neglectful waiter asked if I enjoyed the dessert. I said that the taste was nice, but that the bread pudding was not the right consistency. You know how bread gets rubbery when its microwaved for too long? It was like that. Plus it wasn’t the right temperature the whole way through. Luke warm on the outside and piping hot on the inside. Gross, right? Well fasten your seat belts folks because man did I get a look for that one! No «So sorry that it wasn’t satisfactory.» No «I’ll be sure to mention that to the chef.» Just a massive eye roll and him turning and walking away. Upon his return with the check, I even tried explain to the waiter saying«I don’t blame you for the suggestion. It just wasn’t made right in the kitchen.» Again, no response from the waiter. There were elements of this meal that were just fabulous including the Scallops and Pork Belly, but I can barely remember any of the food when my final experience in the restaurant was a high dose of attitude. Yikes. In general, the ambiance was cute. The menu was varied and interesting. The portions were just a tad small. The service was pretty dreadful as our glasses were empty far more than they were full. I likely would have spent more if I was able to catch our server, and on a dead Saturday night service there was little excuse.
