Very good! We went there for lunch and ate. Their beer cheese is excellent! I can’t remember the name of what I had, but I can tell you it was excellent. Rye bread, fried chicken, sauce, cheese. OMNOMNOM

Second visit left MUCH to be desired. Very poor service. No meat-free options. Waited 15 minutes for drinks, 35 minutes to place our order. Decided not to risk it and left. I am told that they have worked out the issues and am willing to try again.

This is my go to lunch location and where I take people that are visiting for work and are from out of town. The appetizer that must be ordered is the poutine-ish which has never missed the mark. The best sandwiches(though the others I have had are great as well) are the Cubano, the hot ham hoagie, and the rufus. They just changed their menu around a little bit, but the grits were the best side, now I need to try and find a new favorite. Every menu item is well made, so don’t be afraid to try new things. The atmosphere is my style with the industrial look and the staff is always very attentive and friendly. Sadly I have yet to enjoy a beer here since I am always going on my lunch breaks during the day, but it seems like the perfect place to enjoy a low key beer around good people.

I came here for lunch per a friends recommendation and it was amazing! Thanks Chad! ;) I had ordered the Cuban sandwich with pork braised kale. Everything was so yummy! The owner was so nice, he even gave me a free beer!!! because I wanted a hoppy kind of beer and the only one they carried was out at the time. The beer he did give me was super good and it came from Cincinnati. The place is very unique, a lot of history, since years ago this once was an actual fire engine station. There’s a lot of artifacts you can observe as you come into the restaurant. Just ask the owner, he’s friendly and if not busy will tell you the history behind the place. I absolutely enjoyed my food, beer and the service. Everything was excellent. So if you’re in Winchester, check this place out! You won’t be disappointed.

Wow. Want to be ignored? Walk into this place. Three open seats at the bar but no one noticed even though we stood waiting for a table or a spot for a good 10 minutes. Worse? Six or seven staff completely ignored us, wouldn’t meet our eyes. We walked out -/nobody noticed, of course. Winchester’s loss. We were here for the weekend but after this friendly welcome? Hello Asheville. Worse, Winchester? We make this drive once a month and had already thought to make Winchester our regular stopping point. No more.

My daughter suggested we try this spot, so today we did for lunch; what a pleasant surprise! Very interesting place, really nice décor for an old engine house; great bar; nice lunch menu, friendly service and good prices.(What more could you want?) We started with shots of Wild Turkey & Angels Envy … aah… everything was great starting there! Wife had the soup & the grilled cheese sandwich — wonderful! I had the Cubano, which was different than Tampa or Miami but very good. Definitely plan to return to try other items. Give it a try; they need the business and Winchester needs for them to succeed!

Visited this place on a business trip and I’m very glad we found it. I had the Cubano, which was freshly prepared and very good. My companions were equally impressed by the salads and soup. For a little more in price than many fast food chains, this place offers unique foods that are attentively prepared and served in a restaurant with one-of-a-kind character(right down to the pot-belly stove. The next time I’m in town, this is a place I’ll hope to visit again.

Had the Cuban with fruit as a side. It was delicious! Found this place while traveling on a business trip and it did not disappoint.

Traveled to this area for business and decided to try this spot based on the reviews. Food was fantastic and service even better! I had the chicken liver appetizer and cheesy grits and I had to stop myself because I could have easily eaten every crumb off of my plate! The bartender let me try a sample of the draft beers because I wasn’t sure which one to try. My server was attentive and asked if everything met my expectations. The cook came and asked me if I enjoyed the meal. To top it off, there was live music playing and just topped the vibe of the restaurant. Highly recommended and I will return when I visit again!

OK, so these are the best chicken livers I have ever had. They are on the menu as an appetizer, but most definitely worth having as a meal. The French fries are awesome. Great little place to hang out, watch a game and on Friday nights they have live music and Tuesday nights open mic night.

Definitely check out this unique restaurant! While the menu is limited, our sandwiches were delicious. We ordered the lox with a side of chips and one with ham, capicola, and cheese(forgot name) with a side of cheese grits. My husband says the grits were the best he has ever had. Good beer selection, friendly staff, and good atmosphere. I recommend some type of blue cheese dipping sauce for the side of chips. Also, consider adding vegetarian options. A nice veggie sandwich and some stuffed jalapeños without chorizo and bacon would be great additions to the menu. I am so happy to have this new restaurant in Winchester!

Food was great(I had the Winny) but the menu selection is limited to pretty much sandwiches and a few salads. Space is small as well so that and the limited menu is why 4 instead of 5 stars. Loved the local beer selection on tab. Really good atmosphere and friendly staff. Bout time Winchester got a cool joint like this.

Note: This name is similar to the Old Business that was at this location the«Engine House Deli». I have created this business 4 times now. I hope this sticks. June 11, 2015 was the opening day aka soft opening for the Engine House Deli + Pub. They are right up the street from Speedway off Maple and a couple doors from Main Street here in Winchester. They are in the location that use to be the old Engine House Deli(different owners), but they kept the name being close to the original to keep the history alive. The building also use to be the old Fire House years ago. They line the walls with old hoses and fire house paraphernalia and nostalgia. They even have the old lighted outdoor sign turned into indoor lighting and mounted on the ceiling at the booths inside. If you were also one of the few locals that signed your name on one of the old booths, it may still be up in the back section of this place on the ceiling. Memories and tradition are so passed on here. Thank you for that. I also want to say i was really impressed they didn’t offer Bud Light or Bud Wiser on tap. They had Blue Stallion, Country Boys, West 6th, and other local Lexington Brews just to name a few. I have to give them props for that. They also hire wait staff that you would expect to see in Lexington at a coffee shop, they are lined with tats and piercings. THANKYOUFORTHAT! That is very impressive for Winchester based business. They brought us out their duck fat heirloom popcorn apps to sample and it was so nice and tasty. We also ordered their chicken livers with their red eye gravy aioli and pommery mustard. Their food selections are impressive for this area as well. They offer anything from a rocket and fennel salad to a cubano or bagels and lox. The Engine House Deli + Pub also have a semi full bar and will soon be offering their own cocktails specials with a bit of Southern Kentucky Charm. I will definitely be going back to this place soon and often. I can actually walk there from my house when I am in Kentucky. If you find yourself passing through the Clark County or just want to get out of the big city of Lexington, stop on in and give them a try. I am sure if they are as great as they were tonight, you will love them.

Thrilled it’s back open and better than ever! Our party enjoyed salads, sandwiches, and sides(although the potato salad was a little funky). Had excellent service at the bar. The décor was very cool. I’d only recommend adding a few additional healthier and/or vegetarian options.

Sad day for Kentucky. They no longer have the hot brown, and some other unique regional sandwiches, that they were known for. As stated in the previous review, they still do not accept cards, parking is street asnd lunch is the only meal they’re open for. They offer traditional milkshakes which you can see them make in a vintage machine sitting behind the counter. Good stuff. Any other drinks come in mason jars. Nice touch. I ordered a country club(normal club sandwich but with salty country ham instead of sweeter city ham) and french fries. As in most places the fries were the standard frozen crinkle cut kind. My sandwich was good. Toasted bread played nicely against the lettuce and tomato and the country ham was a welcome addition. It wasn’t a sandwich I’d go out of my way for, but it was enjoyable. My cousin got a burger covered with River Rat Beer Cheese which she said she liked and which fulfilled the cheeseburger craving she’d had for about a month. You can buy the Beer Cheese in small or large containers to take home with you. I recommend it if you like cheese and beer. The owner seemed a little brusque at first, but as we talked to him he warmed up and was really nice. One of the guys even offered to take our picture sitting in the clawfoot bathtub that someone had converted into a couch and set in the entrance way of the eatery. The counter space you can sit at is cute and funky. They have booths in the back that have graffitti all over them, and I do mean all over them(the walls, the booths, the floor). They even offer markers for you to add your own addition to the décor mayhem. We were almost the only people there the entire time we ordered and ate our meal. I don’t know how they are staying in business with such little business. It kind of puts a damper on your meal when you feel like you’re in a ghost town. We almost didn’t want to be too loud. Notice I said almost. :) I wish they would offer the hot brown again. All the elements are there for a really great dive, but it’s just a little lacking. This place just needs more people and to bring back some of the unique eats that put them in the 101 places to eat in Ky book in the first place(which is how I came to eat there).

The food is really good and the servers are friendly. They have a really good hot brown here. The subs are superb. Home of River Rat Beer Cheese. Open from 11am — 2 pm. They only take cash. Parking can be a little tough since they don’t have a private lot. Great place for groups.
