It is an easy place to want to drive past, and the insides leave you wondering if you’d teleported to the 1970s. But the food was really good! I got the chicken fried steak w gravy breakfast platter which included homefries, eggs, and pancakes was crispy, not greasy, and moist and flavorful of the inside. The only downside was that it was very chilly inside on a generally chilly January day. Bring a sweater or order a mug of coffee to keep your hands warm.

Also an AMAZING mudslide! 6÷2÷2015: Best breakfast, best hole-in-the-wall, best prices for the portions, best atmosphere, best drinks, best-kept secret??? Cindy was amazing doing the cooking, bartending, and serving — the whole time friendly and accommodating. I had good alcoholic drinks and the best country fried steak meal I have had in a long time.

We went here because of the reviews on Unilocal. We walked in and noticed no one had food. The bartender came to our table and told us that she was the only staff that there was. If we ordered food, we may have to wait. We were shocked. We left.

I had been a regular for breakfast on the weekends here for a couple of years, and stopped coming for a couple of months because of a poor service experience on a chance afternoon bailing out early from work due to an incoming Winter storm. Well, it’s a few months later, and I’m over it. Also, there are some new faces on the staff, and I’m being well taken care of this evening. For evening bar fare, the grilled steak cheddar and bacon sandwich and fries hit the spot, washed down with a couple of Amber Bocks, as they were out of Yeungling on draft(happy hour — all beers on draft half price /under $ 2 per beer). The fries may have been slightly overdone, and a bit cool by the time my sandwich was served(took about 15 min from order time), which isn’t bad for a small kitchen in a hole-in-wall local favorite kind of place. There’s probably 25 people here, a bartender, and another staff member helping with the cooking. The sound system is moderate volume(heavy on the bass — the whole place shakes! Lol), the clientele this time of day is the local after-work-for-a-couple-of-beers crew, and the food is decent. I’m happy to be back!

This is the best breakfast place ever. The country fried steak with the sides is phenomenal. The service is friendly, the food is superb, and the atmosphere is perfect. My boyfriend and I haven’t had better breakfast anywhere. We’ve been there 4x already and plan to go every weekend. Thanks Granny’s! And particularly Cindy who always takes good care of us. What a great cook!

We went for breakfast and it was very good. The home fries were the best I have ever had and I am over 50 years old, LOL. They were made with slices potatoes and the flavor was excellent, the texture was very crispy in places with creaminess throughout. Just awesome in my opinion. For those gravy lovers you can have sausage OR chipped beef Gravy over biscuits, toast, OR pancakes. All of the food was excellent. They had a trainee who didn’t know how to serve yet so that was not the best. Since we are on vacation we loved being able to have a drink with our 9:00 breakfast. Please give it a try

Based on the reviews here, I decided to give this a try on my way home from vacation. Please don’t go here. Dirty and the food… not so great. Overall, I’ll say it was scary walking in and I couldn’t wait to leave.

Granny’s is a gathering place for local country folk. Their draft domestics are reasonably priced at $ 2.50/glass(draft PBR is $ 1.50!). You aren’t going to find craft beer here. I went for dinner on Saturday night and by chance, a local rockabilly/blues band started playing at 9pm. I had the steamed shrimp appetizer, roast beef, mashed potatoes & gravy, and corn. The roast beef and potatoes were excellent! The shrimp was easy to peel because it was deveined. The corn was definitely fresh, but it was drowned in butter to the point where I couldn’t eat it. The chef came out at the end of the meal and asked us if everything was OK, which is always a good sign. My friend that went with me ordered the ribeye steak and the waitress told him that they didn’t have any steak defrosted. He ended up ordering the meatloaf. That’s the only bad thing I can say about Granny’s. I wouldn’t order steak from any place that freezes it. We still enjoyed the overall atmosphere, live music, and reasonably priced draft beer, so we will certainly go back there. For all you vapers, vaping is allowed inside the restaurant.

What a wonderful«hole in the wall» we discovered on our way home from a trip to NC! Granny’s is basically a roadside bar, but the food is fantastic! Granny is the bartender, the waitress, and the cook. We had lunch and a delightful conversation with her. I had the patty melt, which was amazing — a thin burger, nestled in a layer of melted cheese and diced, fried onions, sandwiched between pieces of gently toasted, marble rye bread. This was accompanied by some of the best onion rings I have ever tasted. My husband ordered the Italian sausage sandwich with tomato sauce, and fried peppers & onions. Granny recommended adding some melted mozzarella on top. This came with fries, and he ordered a side of wings. My husband said both were«very good.» We each ended up taking half of our sandwich home for later. If you’re looking for a delicious meal and a friendly atmosphere, stop at Granny’s!

One of Winchester’s hidden jems. Not«just a bar» but a great place to eat! The best wings I’ve ever had!(50¢ wings on Mondays) Breakfast is wonderful! Tasted the meatloaf the other day and it’s great too. During the day it is quiet place to eat. Local color is great! I’ve stopped in for lunch or early dinner many times and totally have enjoyed myself. I’ve only been in a few times in the evenings. It can be a hopping place full of music and dancing but on other nights when it is more slow it’s the best place to relax with a beer and get to know the people sitting at the bar. I’ve not been to a Karaōke night yet(Thurs), but the parking lot is always full. This place has something for everybody! Food and atmosphere

Simply outstanding quality food for a super reasonable price in a no-frills type place. My wife and I were recently up in the Winchester areas for business, and in driving around on route 6, we noticed Granny’s, and always loving to try new off-the-beaten-path places, decided to pull in for an early dinner. The crowd was sparse when we entered, which was to be expected for the hour, no one in the dining area and just a couple of regulars at the bar, however the bartender, who was also our server, the cook, and everything in-between was very warm, welcoming, and invited us to take a seat anywhere we’d like. The place has a very«local bar» type feel, with rough wooden floors, a well stocked bar, and plenty of local pictures of the place and travel in the area adorning the walls. There was a Jukebox available for background music, and several of the folks at the bar would occasionally select an eclectic selection of classic rock and country, however the tender was conscious to keep it from getting turned up too loud, which was a nice touch. Their draft selection is pretty standard for a hole-in-the-wall place, none of the fancy craft beers you’d get at an urban upscale place, but a good selection to drink a couple of beers from. My wife, being a bit more of a discerning drinker, got into a discussion with the bartender about what she’d like, and ended up having a custom drink made for her that she raved about(and honestly wasn’t too pricey, as often times I’ve seen bartenders use the excuse of custom drinks to charge you an arm and a leg for liquor). In addition to the great, relaxing atmosphere, the food here is simply grant, southern comfort food at it’s best. I’ll agree that it’s all made fresh, and often times it seems to order, as I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, and the waitress(same person who was tending the bar, remember) asked me if I’d prefer white or brown gravy(I’m a white gravy kinda guy), and that she’d whip up a batch of either one to my preference. My wife got the grilled chicken, and both dishes came with a side of mashed potatoes(which were silky smooth, and tasted buttery without being too salty) and corn off the cob, which was clearly just cut from the cob and boiled with a fair amount of butter. Both of our entrees came out well cooked and quite hot; my country fried steak was very crispy, and tender but not oily at all, and of course loaded with that fresh gravy. Good food, great staff, relaxing environment, and reasonable prices, definitely on our short list to try for their breakfast next time we’re up in the area.
