Meh. They have a really decent selection of micro-brews and foreign beer that’s usually hard to find. They have a few local wines, but not any more than some local grocery stores, honestly. It’s a kinda sketchy place, though, and it just has a weird vibe. If you’re trying to find cool beer and wine, you expect the place to be a lot more inviting. Instead, the woman(I presume the owner) just kinda sits there and makes you feel awkward for coming in in the first place.

Nice people, good wine, and many wine tastings to help you make an educated decision.

An unassuming spot on WInchester’s pedestrian mall, Murphy’s was a great place to stop and browse while taking a relaxing stroll recently. Of course, the area is under construction, but the stores are still accessible luckily! A cute little corgi greeted us at the door to the shop, followed by a sweet lady who helped me choose a local wine. I haven’t actually tried the wine yet, but the service was fantastic and we even got to sample a red wine before leaving. I’d recommend a visit if you’re killing time or looking for an unusual little spot.

First question… why in the hell am I in Winchester, VA? Well, the gf and I were invited over to a friend’s house in Winchester for a cookout. When invited over to a friend’s home, I hate to show up empty handed. However, stupid me forgot to grab a bottle of wine for our hostess before running out the door and making the 90-minute plus trek to Winchester. Fortunately, Winchester had Murphy Beverage Company for our emergency wine and beer needs. The quaint shop resides in the even quainter Old Town Winchester. While Murphy Bev Co has ample floor space; they weren’t wall-to-wall, floor to ceiling with product. There’s approximately a 40÷40÷20 split between beer, wine, and food & accessories throughout the shop. Truth be told, the wine selection wasn’t that impressive(even after taking into account that it wasn’t DC). Plus, considering where we were at, it was surprising that Murphy Bev Co carried so few VA wines. The beer selection was far more interesting. In the end, I did find a respectable Australian Shiraz to bring to the cookout that was only a couple of dollars more than what I would’ve paid at Total Wines or Whole Foods in the city. Murphy Beverage Company saved the day… barely.
