Captain’s Inn Point Lookout

We arrived at around 5pm on a Saturday. There was only 4 other couples there. Very quiet and beautiful atmosphere like everyone raves about but my family and I were VERY disappointed in the quality of food. The cheeseburger had no flavor and came back rare instead of medium. The soup was too salty, the artichoke dip tasted like mayonnaise and the pita chips were not toasted but rather just cut up pita bread. We also had the cheesecake and there was not much flavor and was dry. I hate to complain but I have to be honest. I read the reviews that got me here and it was a total waste of money. «The Captain» is a very nice man though and did make us feel very welcome. But we won’t be going back. I wish only the best in the future for the owners. I think this place has good potential.

So glad this is open again; we stopped in today for lunch and it was Fantastic! For an appetizer we had calamari in a Thai peanut sauce that was absolutely Delicious! The service was great, the atmosphere was wonderful and of course the view is spectacular– especially this time of year. We will definitely be back, again and again!

The Captains Inn is nice without being fancy. It’s a long 2 story building with a restaurant downstairs and a Bed & Breakfast above. The inside of the dining area is covered with wooden planking that reminds me of a country bar I had once been to. It’s located on a cliff right on top of a hill with a panoramic view of 5 states. It’s quite impressive and well worth a special trip. The only thing better than the view is their food. It is superb, far better than any other restaurant we’ve been to in the area — every single morsel of it, from the thin, crunchy homemade pickled onions that top the salad to the entrees.
On a recent visit I had the salmon with couscous. Now I’m not a great fan of either salmon or couscous but I was putting on a bit of weight and wanted to have something that wouldn’t add to the problem.
The meal was delicious. Lick the plate delicious. A nice portion of properly seasoned couscous mixed with a little onion, pimento and a few black olives topped with grilled salmon. I ate every grain off the plate and that appeared to make our friendly waitress very happy.
We also ordered an excellent Chicken Marsala. It was well seasoned, smothered with mushrooms and very tasty.
On the night of our visit, there was another couple within earshot raving about their seafood Mac and Cheese. That’s what I’ll try next — after I lose a few pounds.
The owner is always present and makes sure you leave happy and well fed. This man, his excellent chef and their fine wait staff are very good at achieving exactly that.

Captain Wayne’s Place is the best in the area! 5 stars from New Yorker! I have food allergies and the stuff was very friendly when I asked for modified options of the main menu offerings! Oh and the View is just Breathtaking! Highly recommended!

We stayed here from Friday-​Sunday and from the moment we walked in I’ve never felt more comfortable. Captain Wayne made our stay everything we had hoped it would be. The rooms were clean, service was great and food was very good as well. The views are outstanding. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great getaway weekend. Just a short ride to Windham and surrounding towns.
Just saying, they have Moscow Mules (doesn’t get any better than that)

At first a nautical themed inn and restaurant seems out of place in the Catskills but it is owned by a genuine retired Navy officer. The menu and décor were a little middle America for this Brooklynite but I have to say the execution really was a cut above. The owner could not be nicer or more inviting. I wish him all the best and plan to return

Wonderful! A view that is unmatched. Food that is excellent. Servers that are knowledgeable and friendly. Bar with a fantastic selection of local and imported bottled and draft beers. Capped off by a friendly owner/​host that stops by each table to ensure everything is to your satisfaction. My girlfriend and I have been there three times and it keeps getting better.

Amazing views with a menu not available anywhere else in the area. 10 minutes from Cairo, 5 from Windham. This is the place to come for a meal you’ll remember.
