I had very high hopes for this restaurant! Coming from New York City I always expect much for restaurants, but when I came to Windham, I lowered my expectations a little to match the reality. That is until I heard the buzz of chicken run. I had driven by it and seen that it was always full and had read reviews that made it sound amazing. I tried to be smart and make a reservation, first by phone(I tried three times and it ended up with call failed) which fell short, then I tried to email them with no confirmation, and then I went through their website but still with no confirmation! I thought that maybe I would luck out and my attempts would go through. I was wrong, I showed up at 8:00 pm on a Saturday and it was packed(I wasn’t surprised by this). I got to the hostesses desk and she had major attitude and told me that I «should always make reservations for restaurants like these». I told her I had tried and she told me that that was sad and that I could wait until 9:00 for a chance at a table, she saw that I had two young children with me but totally ignored it(I didn’t mind this until it became a problem). She led me to a little waiting room right next to the bathroom and had a Tv that kept playing the same exact one minute video over and over again. She didn’t offer anything for the kids and nothing for me. She never came to check on us even though we stuck through like troopers for over an hour. We finally made it to a corner table and it was super loud! We sat down and didn’t get a menu for the next 5 minutes! The service was so slow that the kids began to make jokes about it being chicken walk instead of chicken run! By the time we ordered, our server kept asking us to repeat ourselves and was paying attention to something other than us. The food was not on point, the fried chicken was hard on the outside and mushy and wet on the inside, the baked beans were spicy and drowned in sauce! The fire alarm kept going off because of birthday cakes and it was so loud and they couldn’t stop it! We were so fed up that we left after dinner and didn’t even stick around for dessert. Long story short I would never recommend this or bring this upon my worst enemy.

The atmosphere is great. My favorite part about my meal was the corn bread. The hard apple cider was good too. I was hoping the chicken would have been a bit jucier /tastier though. I’d give it a second try though.

I love this spot! Homey and comfty food and atmosphere. Always alive in this place, with families dining, a great bar crowd, good live music, and patio activity making it truly a taste of the country! The fried chicken is moist and crispy and simply delicious! Portions and prices are great and the service is always attentive!

Bert’s Cut: We were there in November which was my third visit. Always enjoy the popcorn on the table. My fried chicken and ribs were dry. Gumbo soup is good. My son loved the honey chicken and would order it again. Wait staff and service is very good. I will give it another shot and try something different. There is a big bar crowd with live entertainment.

I love Chicken Run. The food is great and the service couldn’t be nicer or more helpful. My husband and I got marry at Windham Mountain this past July, and we hosted our welcome/rehearsal dinner at Chicken Run. Not a traditional choice, but the perfect one for us. We wanted somewhere comfortable, with a friendly, laid-back vibe and good food. We also needed somewhere that could accommodate at least 100 people. Chicken Run fit the bill. They gave us the run of the outdoor area and even let us pick the band they booked for the evening. The highlight of the night may have been hanging out with all of my friends and family around the fire pit, making s’mores. 5 months later, people are still telling us what a good time they had. Oh, and I ate left over ribs from our rehearsal dinner for breakfast the morning of our wedding. Chicken Run’s food is that good.

The smell of popcorn greats your nose as soon as you walk in, this is your table«bread» if you are used to other restaurants. A very Comfy feeling with local entertainment. Dry rub chicken with cornbread was good. There are other options available instead of the veggie burger.

Nice place to have a causal meal. Offers good chicken and steak meals. If you have a family this place ranks top pick. Unfortunately for those who prefer to fine without children this is not your place as it attracts numerous tables with young children. Nice large bar area.

It was like a big ol’ outdoor house party. A band playing outdoors, kids running around doing cartwheels, a fire going in a firepit with Adirondack chairs around the fire. An open porch overlooking all of this. The large part of the restaurant is inside and we did not spend a second in there. The food was decent. Ribs and Chicken were very tasty. I would have liked to try a steak but it was way too expensive. We’re talking Capital Grille expensive. That’s a bit of a head shaker. The service was decent but I did need to track our waitress down a time or two. No biggie. This is a neat idea that I haven’t seen anywhere. Kuddos to Chicken Run for being unique.

Greeted at the door with a smile and warm welcome this place does not disappoint ! Every person is genuinely friendly. The food is well prepared and super yummy. Throw in the family friendly outdoor area, fire pit and live music it is an experience that is not to be missed.

We popped in here mainly because The Hub is still on his never-ending hunt for a new chicken restaurant to replace his favorite old joint that went defunct. You’d think a place called«Chicken Run», festooned both inside and out with images of chickens, would have a decent array of chicken choices on their menu. Sadly, that’s not the case here. There were a whopping 3 chicken choices. The remainder consisted of meatballs, steaks meatloaf, a couple of pasta dishes some sandwiches, and of course, one seafood variety. That was it. Disappointingly limited in all categories! The servers were another oddity. A small assortment of teenaged waitresses would be alternately clustered about, then totally non-existent. When one did approach, she’d do her thing in a very uninspired manner, imparting a rather negative vibe throughout the meal. I ordered the special that day, which was sliced turkey with trimmings, and although it wasn’t bad tasting, it was quite skimpy. The Hub ordered the meatloaf, and he, too, reported no inclination to write home about its taste or quantity either. And the high prices here are certainly not reflective of the mediocrity of the fare: A porterhouse here goes for $ 40! Where do these chicken pluckers think they are — in Manhattan? Eh… as the fat Irish cop says: ‘Move along folks, there’s nothing to see here.’

This place is amazing! Not only is the funky décor warm and welcoming, but the food is really good! I’ve had the chicken and ribs, steak, roast loin of pork(special) and meat loaf, and everything has been delicious. The fire pit with Adirondack chairs behind the restaurant is a good place to relax before dinner or after, with a glass of wine, and the sand volleyball court alongside the Batavia Kill Creek is great for kids. Live country music on weekends and an attentive waitstaff makes this a definite place you want to keep coming back to. I love this place and it has been a welcome addition to many of the other fine restaurants in Windham, just a lot more fun.

Not only the best place for steaks(aged beef) but they are extremely family friendly. My kids love coming here and I know I will be taken care of and no one will be whining about their food. Never disappointed. Chris D.

Chicken run has a fun limited menu. Great rubbed chicken, and steak. The BEST baked beans I have ever had. It’s worth checking out, especially during an outdoor lobster bake during the summer months.

I’ve eaten here a lot. The food is great, but the menu limited. Definitely go for chicken, ribs or steak. Tuesday’s is thanksgiving dinner special and it’s delicious. The atmosphere is chill and friendly and there is a whole lot of activity outdoors behind the restaurant; volleyball, hula hoops, sand box, creek, fire pit, stage, etc.

Went back for lunch again over the weekend. Took a chance on a sausage sandwich since I had heard the owner is a butcher and makes the sausage himself. Any type of sausage I tend to be very picky and this one was a nice mild Italian style with peppers and onions, not a bit of grizzle in the whole thing! Everyone was very happy with lunch. On the way out I noticed they have a butcher counter with really nice looking beef cut to order. I’ll have to stop by for steaks and maybe get some of the sausage to go next time we a grilling!

I stopped by after a day of skiing at hunter mountain. Despite being relatively empty it took almost 10 minutes for the bartender to realize I was there. I had a beer or two and some appetizers. The Calamari was very good. Well cooked, and not chewy at all. The Cordon bleu balls were also good, but nothing to write home about. The patio and fire pit area wasn’t open yet(it was only like 4ish). Seems like it would be a cool place to have dinner. Overall the food was good, the service could stand to be more attentive.

Very good food & ambiance for the Catskill Region. Had the wings, Big Boy & had no room for desert. There is a fire pit out back & this place is ideal for anyone, especially families. My friends got steak & they both liked it. The owner is a butcher & everything was fresh… will def be back after a round of golf or a day at the slopes!

Wow! This restaurant serves the best(traditional) American food. When my salad was served, I could tell that the(overall) food was going to be great. The salad came out fresh unlike other places. Their fried chicken, steak, french fries, hamburger and drinks are delicious! I have never had good American food like this in my life! If you are looking for a «not-fancy» place to eat, go to the Chicken Run Family Restaurant and Steak House! They even play live music on Fridays and Saturdays.

Abridged version of my updated review: don’t always take order by name, have popcorn on the tables now, food is still good, and they DO have baked beans! My husband and I went there a couple weeks ago — it’s really a large restaurant. Popcorn on the table when you get there, Frank got the wings(he gets wings everywhere!) and said they were very good. His entrée was the ribs and chicken combo, and he made his fried chicken, with a side of Mac & cheese and potato salad, comes with corn bread. The fried chicken was good, I like fried chicken spicier/peppery, but it was moist and tasty. Sides were good, didn’t find them to be rave-worthy. I had the chicken pot pie, the filling needed salt and pepper… and I don’t put salt and pepper on much of anything. The puff pastry topper just makes it messy and clumsy to eat, but overall it was pretty good. I got mashed potatoes with brown gravy and baked beans as my sides — the mashed potatoes were ridiculously delicious. The baked beans were good, again I didn’t eat the corn bread. I think our bill came to $ 40, well worth it! You get a lot of food for the money.

They expanded the place a bit and added a full bar! Food is still amazing. Sitting outside is really nice. They had live music on Friday night. One thing that bugged me however is when we walked in, there was about 5 employees who looked at us and didn’t greet us. All stAnding around or behind the ice cream counter.
