We went here last night, despite the mixed reviews on the food, to see the band that was planning. We enjoyed the music; the food not so much. We ordered the Chicken Marsala and the Chicken Colleen. The chicken in both dishes was a bit dried and over cooked. The Marsala wine sauce was very salty and the veges served along with it were a bit under cooked. The mashed potatoes on my plate were the only item that was good. The Chicken Colleen was underwhelming and didn’t have much flavor. The spinach in the Colleen was quite overcooked and tasted as though it may have been canned spinach. The pasta served with that dish was good, though. It appears that Amarones does carbohydrates well between our mashed potatoes and pasta. We ordered the Tiramisu for dessert and was the best thing we ate all night. The dessert could bump my rating up to a 2.5. But, given all the other great Italian places within a 5 mile radius, I would skip Amarones to satisfy your Italian food craving.

The better days have passed this restaurant by(and they weren’t even that good when times were good) It is time to reinvent, close, or sell Food is not that inventive, creative, or presented well Service lacks any level of expertise or talent Décor is very old, tired, and frankly not that clean There are too many other exceptional choices all within 5 miles Too bad, but after years of not taking swift action it I think it is too late for this restaurant

What a pleasant surprise! Had been thinking about checking this place out for awhile, as we have driven past it before. Ventured out in the snow and ended up having a great experience. There were a few people sitting at the bar, but otherwise we had the dining room to ourselves due to the inclement weather. Our waitress, Tena, was pleasant and attentive. Mike, The one owner was very friendly and gracious, even bought us a round of drinks after we finished our dinner. The appetizers we got were both(meatball parmesan and mozzarella fritters) delicious, as were our meals(Angel hair with marinara, vodka rigatoni, chicken marsala). They have a decent size dining room with a stage for entertainment, as well as the bar. Will definitely be back.

The first sign I should have noticed that something was amiss is that they are going through a ’ grand REopening’… when you have ‘grand opening ’ and it doesn’t go well… a ‘grand REopening’ usually doesn’t fair well either. I’m standing by this statement. This establishment has been around in one guise or another for longer than I’ve lived in the area(20+ years) and now has decided to get into the pizza business as a side thing… bad move since the next town over(Robbinsville) has turned into a sort of pizza Renaissance destination with Delorenzo’s and Papa’s transplanting there after their original locations in Trenton got too seedy … plus Gennaro’s in Robbinsville has been turning out quality pies for awhile now. Now…it might work if you can compete with the big boys with a similarly quality product and at better price point but that’s just not the case here. In all fairness the sauce and cheese were not too bad but the crust is quite literally one of the worst textured examples I have ever experienced. It had a kind of powdery consistency(sort of like an unleavened bread that had no chew or crunch) that was extremely unappealing and at $ 16 and change for a large with just garlic, way overpriced. Do yourself a favor… drive a few more miles over to the next town and experience a pizza that’s been fine tuned(over the course of numerous decades) to near perfection.

I’m not pleased with the pizza. The dough is tasteless. It’s dry and crumbled, pizza should be chewy on an inside and crispy on the ends. Definitely it can’t be compared with Delorenzo’s or Papa’s. I wanted to try different pizza place but I was disappointed. Something must be wrong with their dough recipe.

The place I reviewed was for pizza and sandwiches and closed down rather quickly. This review is in no way a review of Amarone’s Windsor Inn Restaurant. Unilocal won’t allow me to remove it though.

Had a great experience at Amarone’s Windsor Inn last weekend. Calamari was crispy and tasty. My wife had Pork and Figs appetizers. Both were sensational. My Veal Sorentina and my wife’s Shrimp Frances were excellent. Our server Hector was exceptional. I recommend this place and ask for Hector. We also stopped the bar and Tom was also very personable and accomodating.

We have always enjoyed dinner here, usually for special occasions with small groups. The food is well prepared though not always as described on the menu. Just a really good local place. There is entertainment a few nights a week but it is more fun than quality, country singers, Elvis style, and Sinatra wannabe’s. It’s free, no complaints. They have a good website with their menus and an entertainment list. This restaurant is in Windsor, NJ, not Hightstown or East Windsor, as the Unilocal listing would indicate, unless that has been fixed.
