This place is great. Casual and reasonable prices and delicious big portions. Staff is friendly and service is great. We like to sit outside on the picnic tables with our dog. Great stop after visiting Kent falls.

The reviews are right, this place is amazing. Huge portions, everything is delicious, great people+ atmosphere. Special shout out to the sweet corn pudding. If you need BBQ in the Hudson valley this definitely won’t disappoint!

Great ribs, great sauce,(add habenero to the spicy sauce). Warren is a great guy, wish I could work here and get paid in ribs. Oh yea, and great sweet tea. The wife loved the sweet corn pudding. Thanks Warren!

I don’t even know where to start! We drove here from Stratford, CT because someone had said this was THE best BBQ spot. The workers were soooooo friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere is so cozy. Inside feels like your at the corner store in your hometown. We sat outside at a table and It was the perfect day for outdoor eating. We did a meal for 4 thing which would have realistically fed 6 hungry people. We had ribs, chicken, burnt ends and brisket. The sides we had were dirty mashed potatoes, Mac n cheese, coleslaw, baked beans and hush puppies. Amazing isn’t even an adequate word to describe this experience. The meat was smoked perfectly. They give you bbq sauce on the side but you would be foolish to put it on the food. The meat itself is to die for! Even the chicken as moist. The ribs literally fell off none. The burnt ends were my personal favorite. All is the sides were incredible. The coleslaw was the best I’ve ever had. I can’t wait to come back here again and my only regret is that I literally saved no room for dessert. Amazing place !

My boyfriend is southern and has yet to enjoy a BBQ place in NYC. When we spent a weekend upstate for my birthday, our friend recommended this place so we made a point to go. What a great spot this is! Probably the most delicious BBQ I’ve ever had, and the bf had nothing but nice things to say. We got their«For One»(really for 2) special, which was inexpensive and gave us a taste of the chicken, the brisket, and some sides. On top of how delicious the food is, their owner is the friendliest and smartest person we’ve had the chance to chat with in a long time. Definitely stop by here next time you’re nearby.

On a mini road trip to Connecticut my boyfriend and I spotted this BBQ spot on the side of the road. Now if you’ve seen the Wendy’s commercial you know a sign for BBQ with a pig is a good sign to stop off. Big W’s has a pig with a bib so we were definitely stopping, especially since we are big BBQ fans. We each ordered«truly sensible» sandwiches. I got brisket and my boyfriend got burnt ends and we ordered a side of Mac and Cheese. My brisket sandwich was prepared right in front of us by a man I presume to be the owner. He was friendly, open and made us feel right at home. He asked me if I liked my meat leaner and from the portion I received I definitely got more meat than the usual truly sensible sandwich. My boyfriends burnt ends sandwich was a little skimpy compared to mine. The flavors on both meats were a true smoked flavor but were a little too dry for us. We received the homemade BBQ sauce with our ordered and poured it over(it made a big difference). This BBQ sauce is not your typical. Is was more of a wine sauce with lots and lots of onions, it was good just not the BBQ sauce I was expecting. The Mac and Cheese was delicious. Exactly what you expect from a BBQ place in the Mac and Cheese side realm. The real star was the Cole Slaw. I hate Cole Slaw. I actually had everything with mayo in it or on it. But my boyfriend insisted I try it because it was so good. This Cole Slaw was wonderful. I wish I knew how they made it. I also had a homemade lemonade to wash down my meal that came with 1 free refill. The lemonade was AMAZING. Thank you to the workers at Big W’s for feeding us and making us feel like locals.

I don’t eat BBQ often so this was a nice change of pace. Whenever I walk into a new place like this I had the biggest problem figuring out what to order. Luckily they allow you to try whatever you want before you order so that’s awesome. I shared a platter with my cousin and it’s a boatload of food; Burnt ends, Spicy wings Rubs, Brisket, Celery & blue cheese, Sweet corn pudding, and Mac and cheese. The burnt ends were just amazing, I would go back for those any day of the week, and the brisket was melt in your mouth. The sweet corn pudding was interesting, I didn’t like it at first but then it grew on me. Only things I didn’t for were the spicy sauce, it wasn’t spicy, and the Mac and cheese, just want great. There is easy front parking, a few tables inside and outside, very friendly staff. Bathroom is through the kitchen(not a fan of that). I would go back there anytime for another good meal.

Pulled up to big w’s with an appetite for smoked meat… a gang of intimidating and authentic bikers were out front but they were indifferent to my scrawny city boy vibes. went inside and was greeted by a proud crew of bbq enthusiasts. Family feel solid pulled pork, very good smoked beans… brisket looked superb… bbq sauce was interesting and not your typical sauce but this joint is tops.

Totally delicious. The owner and his wife were fantastic Too. We got the meal for two(4 actually) which was huge and tasty and actually very affordable. All the locals come here, and people are known by name. The brisket, ribs, slaw, Mac, and potatoes were my faves. Definitely recommended!

Super nice people, just a regular guy but the BBQ is crap. The brisket was decent but for being smoked for some 22 hours the meat was pretty flavorless. We got the order for 1(really two) and some extra meat. Ended up giving the huge amount of bleh leftovers away to a family. We are not from the BBQ capital of the world by any means and being from SF I expected to be wowed based on the reviews. Anyone who has been to Pacifica would attest gorilla BBQ in California is killing it. I can’t imagine you are not able to make better BBQ yourself at home. I was all ready to get my BBQ on but this place was one of the worst disappointments on my road trip!

With Warren the wry, Monty Python-quoting jolly frontman(«this IS a cheese shop»), smoke wafting out back and a menu that whispers to barbeque aficionados, «psssst, try me.»(burnt ends?) I wanna love this place really. But I can’t. Yes the brisket and pulled pork spend hours liquefying to their fall off the bone and melt-on-your bun tenderness, there’s something about the flavor that permeates all of those choices(which I have tried numerous times) that’s just too off. It might well be the sauce which resembles more of a men’s locker room than a vinegary, mustardy sweet concoction. They certainly inhale the oak fumes long enough. The selection of the sandwich sizes, well, makes sense in a cutesy way(medium= «sensible», small= «truly sensible» and I dunno never order the huge one). My suggestion: stick to the ribs avoid the corn pudding(a leaden anchor) and coleslaw. So, Warren, all the great cooks tweak recipes. Do re-configure your sauce and you may be on to something more St. Louis-like north of the Mason-Dixon.

This place is the real deal. Amazing food, perfect staff, the whole shebang. The first time we walked in, Warren was answering some pointed questions from an older lady who didn’t seem to sure about this«barbeque thing». After a few minutes, he gave up trying to explain and simply offered her a sample. Seeing us behind her, he pulled out a few extra pieces and invited us to join in the impromptu tasting. Then he pulled out something else. And something else. And something else. I think we were there for nearly 20 minutes, just sampling all sorts of delicious BBQ before we even got around to ordering. It’s been 5 years since then, and we’ll take any excuse to stop by; we’ve driven two hours out of our way from NYC to Boston just to stop here multiple times and we never seem to feel the time is wasted. At this point we’ve eaten nearly everything on the menu, and it’s all delicious. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

If you have like 5 to 6 people. Just go «FORTHETABLE». It’s enough food to feed like 10 to 12 small asian kids like us. But we have over half the food to take home. The menu is pretty clear on what you going to get. We are not a fan on the chicken as it’s too dry and LARGE. you have to take it home and cook/eat over several meals. The owner is so nice and funny. He will make joke and it will be better if you can keep the humor going. Price wise is so cheap. OMG6 of us paid $ 120 which is enough to feed 12 people at max hunger level. I think we all got food coma after. Perfect stop if you just got back from your hike. Food is delicious except the chicken. Don’t be afraid to ask to try before ordering. Their home made lemonade is the best which comes with free refill.

Big portions, delicious authentic BBQ. Very casual, roadside looking place. No table service, no professional décor. Big W himself carves up whatever you order, as you order, — right before you at the at the counter just inside the door. The«little bit of everything» sampler combo«for one» admits that it really feeds two, but probably contains 3 – 4 reasonable sized meals. I don’t know why they have Franks Red Hot sauce on the tables when they give you their own BBQ sauce with your order. They have hot or mild — both good, but I thought the vinegar-based mild was more interesting and unusual. When we asked for extra sauce to take home with leftovers, they gave us double what they’d already given us to eat in! Recommended!

The big W is a wonderful stop in Wingdale! We have been stopping here for meals on our way up and down route 22 for at least 10 years, possibly more! I am a big fan of their brisket and their pork ribs. I also like their chicken, Pulled pork, and the sides I am fondest of are the beans, and collards! Combined this tasty food with the convivial staff and you have a winning dining experience in my book!

The other reviews probably do a better job than I could describing this place. Warren is a monster when it comes to BBQ(and not just because he’s like 500 feet tall). I LOVE the chicken here. It can’t be beat. The brisket is very good as is the pulled pork. I’m not the biggest fan of the ribs but they sure don’t suck. I just like them a little more«fall off the bone» than Warren makes them. The sides are excellent overall. I didn’t like the sweet corn pudding but the mac and cheese makes up for that and I never thought I would like collard greens(usually their«something green» selection) until I tried them here(careful, they do have a kick). When they ask you what kind of sauce you want, ask for both. Trust me, the hot sauce is very good and the mild will help you keep going if the heat gets to be overwhelming. Sit inside or outside at the picnic tables or get a feed bag to go. It might be a bit more pricey than other BBQ joints, but I think it’s worth it.

I have travelled the country extensively, and have eaten at some of the most renowned BBQ joints. Big W simply makes the best, most authentic barbecue on the East Coast. Like a true pit master, the owner BBQ’s his meat in an outdoor smoker with wood. Over the years, health inspectors have come down hard on old school BBQ restaurants, and they are responsible for destroying a culinary ritual that had been developed over thousands of years by people who were passionate about whole hog cooking. The fact that this places even exists in today’s culinary scene is a miracle. I drive two hours every week to pick up Big W’s BBQ by the pound and would gladly travel farther. I cannot recommend this place enough.

A very good BBQ place near us. We loved the great smoke flavor and like other great Texas BBQ they do not put the sauce on before you eat it. You get some sauce that you can add as you like. Just great smoked and rubbed meat. You wait near the door to pick your meat and to get it carved. Then you move over the registrar to pay and get your sides. It keeps things moving and let you see the great food they have ready. We tried the the 2 person platter(it was huge). We got Ribs, Brisket, slow chicken and pulled port. We bought some of the spicy smoked wings to go. We brought a lot of food home. They also give you 4 large sides. We loved the taste of the meat and sides. We ate there and the tables were good. A great place we will return to as often as we can.

I can’t say enough great things about this diamond in the rough. Situated on Route 22 it’s a great place for a BBQ joint on the way to or way back from Bash Bish falls hike. Warren the owner and bbq master has a great background as a french trained chef and now focusses on BBQ. Ask him about his story and his connection with Meryl Streep. It’s quite interesting and funny. Friendly service and a very homely atmosphere which is very welcoming. We also got a tour of the smokehouse and the wonderful stories Warren had. The BBQ is deliscious. Perfect smoke ring and juicy and tender. Favorites are the BBQ chicken probably the most moist and best i’ve ever had and the brisket. Nice smoke ring and tender and fatty enough where it melts in your mouth. The sides we loved were the Baked beans with burnt ends, corn bread, cole slaw, and burnt ends side. All were great. They even threw in a side of bbq debris which goes well sprinkled on top of items. Nice varying bbq sauces from mild to spicy. With his varied culinary background you’ll find some nice additional dishes or specials. Such as the jambalaya, chilli, and various desserts. I’m a big fan and will definitely be back.
