Lucky Jerry had a dozen fabulous girls to himself last Friday night. When we arrived for our girls night out at Jerry’s last Friday night I was surprised to see that we practically had the entire restaurant to ourselves. Then again it was 8pm, which perhaps is later than most people eat in the North Shore. However, it was the perfect time for us moms to hand our little ones off to our husbands and head out for a night of good drinks, food and conversation. My last meal at Jerry’s was just A-OK(3 starsish), but I was pleasantly surprised this time around. My much needed 2 glasses of riesling(it had been a looong week) totally hit the spot. As for food we began our meal by sharing the sashimi app. So good! I went with the sea bass for my entrée. The sauce was a bit rich, but it was truly a delicious meal. Everyone else at the table seemed quite satisfied w/their meals as well. The cozy, quiet atmosphere also allows you to hear your dining companions. It was the perfect spot for a GNO and I plan to go back for a date night soon. Thanks for a fun & yummy night Jerry!

Great spot, great food & service, BUT a $ 25 corkage fee for BYOB is insane! Most I’ve ever paid in Chicago finer BYOB spots was $ 10 and many $ 5. When we questioned it they«lowered» to $ 20 after they claim they called the owner. They came back with $ 15 fee which was fine. We were embarrassed to have to even question it in the first place so it diminished our experience, otherwise it’s a great spot!!!
My mother and I had a very nice dinner at Jerry’s this evening. We started off with the beet salad. Just like one of the previous reviewers said, this was literally all beets which made me very happy! I highly recommend. For our main course, we both had the fried chicken. It was perfectly crisp and juicy. I get full very easily so I was able to save one of my pieces for later as well as the corn pudding. My mom also substituted mashed potatoes for the corn, which they were happy to do. The Roquefort sauce was DELICIOUS!!! Overall, the service was very pleasant, workers were helpful and the atmosphere was lovely. The prices were a little on the high side, but what do you expect? The restaurant is in Winnetka.

Perhaps we expected too much going into this restaurant because all the reviews were fantastic. Do not be fooled by five stars at this site, and dine here at your own peril. I admit the food is okay, given the absence of any decent alternative in the neighborhood. But if you were going to pay the price of fine dining, you would expect service that is commensurate with the price tag. However, the waiters are horribly under-educated in restaurant manners, and their manager is laughably irresponsible. Our waiter was rude, inattentive, and explicitly demanded more tips. When we complained about our waiter, he told us to call the restaurant owner because he’s not responsible. I have never experienced such a poor service at a restaurant where I had to spend more than $ 100 for two people. This is my first Unilocal review, and the abject quality of their service made me go through the trouble of creating a new account and posting this review. I admit the fact that their food is not bad, but there are plenty of other restaurants in Chicago where you wouldn’t have to worry about facing a rude waiter demanding to be tipped. Caveat Emptor, indeed.

Horrible experience. I and my friends brought a birthday cake to celebrate my husband’s birthday. As I was going in, I asked a waiter if it was okay to open the cake later and he said yes. After a more than $ 200 worth of meal, I asked the waiter to bring us extra plates so that we can open and blow the cake, and he suddenly said he would charge $ 3 per person for the plate! We were very upset but the manager was not at all apologetic and blatantly denied the fact that his employee told me that it was okay to open the cake. We were so upset so left a very little tip; AND the waiter followed us out and stopped 5 of us in very heavy rain and asked for more tip. How is this possible? Seriously, do not go to this restaurant; it’s not worth it.

Tried this for the first time and will not be back. The service was unbelievably slow and intermittent. Being a weeknight, I don’t know if they were understaffed but there’s no excuse at their prices. Once the food arrived it was pretty good but nothing spectacular. No reason to return.

Have not been here in a while. Really enjoyed the pared down menu. Simpler food, less choices, easier to read. Liked sitting in the corner cooks space, it was livelier than the Jerrys space. The food was pretty good, but the service was atrocious. We sat for 15 minutes asking every employee that went by if they were our waiter. Apparently no one was and for sure no one offered to take a drink order for us while they tracked down our waiter(who by the way had most of his tables in the other room — what is the logic to that?). When our guests arrived they ordered a drink right away due to our prompting. It took them over 15 minutes to have drinks delivered to the table. Things did not get worse but they did not improve enough to make me want to return any time soon.

I give Jerry’s two stars rather than three because of its positioning as an upper-end, sophisticated restaurant. On that score, it simply doesn’t deliver. The menu is all over the place, bringing to mind a chef or restaurant owner who is desperate to appeal to everyone. This may be my hangup: why would a restaurant mix Asian, Italian, French and American dishes? There is zero coherence to the menu. The food is solid, but never memorable. The atmosphere is dull, although both dining rooms are nicely designed. There’s just something missing for me.

Stopped by again 2 days prior and had another excellent meal. This time I was with a party of 7 and tried many different dishes. The food was consistently excellent from the salmon with ratatouille to a vegetarian curry with forbidden black rice. The service was very friendly and attentive. The only minor negative was I thought one of the fish dishes was cooked more than I prefer but I am very picky and feel fish is frequently overdone in even the finest restaurants. The restaurant was friendly enough to seat us although I had made the reservation accidentally for the following evening.

We drive through Chicagoland often from Arkansas to Wisconsin, and we make it a practice to enjoy a «date night» on the way, finding a restaurant and hotel, and getting up early the next day to make the rest of the trip. We’ve sampled various restaurants in the city as well as the North Shore, and after tonight at Jerry’s, I can definitely say it is one of our favorites so far. First of all, it’s super easy to find and to get to. One of the reasons we ditched the Chicago stop-over is the cluster it can be to park and enjoy the evening. After 10 or so hours of driving, the last thing we want is to stop in the city, throw $ 45 at a hotel parking ramp for our car and then walk, take the el or a cab to the restaurant. In the ‘burbs we’ve found it’s easier to leave the city in our rear-view mirror, park more easily and really relax, and then chill out in a much less expensive hotel. We just rolled over on Willow Road to Winnetka and up Chestnut to Jerry’s. We found parking on the other side of the block that was free. Jerry’s is attached to the Corner Cooks restaurant, but we were seated in Jerry’s, a lovely, intimate, super friendly, neighborhoody place in the idealization of a town that is Winnetka. Its dining room has nine or ten tables maximum, and it was obvious to us that many of the diners were regulars, being greeted warmly and personably by the staff. I also noticed that it was an older crowd, though there was a young couple eating at the bar when we came in and one couple dining with another that may have been in their 30s or early 40s. Service was VERY friendly, and we were well treated when we realized we would be late for our Open Table reservation and called them to let them know. They told us they would hold our table for us, no problem. Our waiter was very personable and attentive all night without being obtrusive. He brought me my cosmopolitan tout de suite! Also, the bread basket is amazing. The bread is just slightly toasted, and what a difference this little touch makes. I was drawn to Jerry’s because of the offerings on the menu that are«bigger than little, littler than big.» I love it when you can find restaurants with reasonable portion sizes. In the end, I chose the chef’s choice phyllo pizza(spinach, tomato and goat cheese today, with enough tomato sauce, cheese and oregano to really feel like pizza) and the Chile Shrimp, three small shrimp tacos dressed with jicama, orange and a guacamole sauce that is to die for. My husband surprised me: He could not stop ordering! He had the beet salad(this isn’t greens with some beets, this is a plate of sliced beets, cooked deliciously with a yummy dressing and walnuts), the Jail Island salmon AND a side of asparagus. He cannot resist asparagus. In his defense, the description of the salmon didn’t make it clear that it would be plated with a veggie medley, including potatoes. He said the salmon was very good, though prepared quite differently, a little crispy on the outside, but not overdone throughout. I had pistachio gelato and decaf to finish. The coffee was brought in a French press, which the waiter then prepared and poured at our table. I think what I loved about Jerry’s was the neighborhood relaxed feel and the intimate, cozy and pretty environment of a restaurant that doesn’t compromise on inventive food, light and fresh flavors and delicious preparation. What a stellar combination. We’ll be back!

Things I like about Jerry’s: *Nice atmosphere *Consistent, good service *Good food *Wonderful press-pot coffee *Outdoor seating in good weather Things I’m not crazy about: –Uncomfortable chairs –Some things seem overpriced to me, like hot tea and dessert(I think my favorite dessert is $ 9 or $ 10) –They took the avocado shrimp stack off the menu — that was my favorite For a more refined lunch venue, or dinner, Jerry’s is great. For something more casual, it’s a bit of a production.

Ah… Jerry’s…you had such potential! My friend and I were trying to branch out from our usual(5-star) spot and decided to give Jerry’s a try. We were so disappointed… First of all, service was non-existent though we were sitting outside on a rather busy evening. I think the table next to us had to fetch their own dinners at one point. The food was nothing special(I had a burger that I didn’t even feel like eating since it was so boring) and the tacos were miniscule. We could barely find our server and though I would have ordered another glass of wine, I couldn’t because he was nowhere to be found(and I didn’t want to wait 30 min to have it delivered). All in all, it was pretty bad. Bland food, terrible service and pretty pricey doesn’t make this a spot that I want to visit.

At this price point one expects an impeccable dining experience between the food, service, and ambiance. Jerry’s falls short on all categories given the price point. Food: This is the real disappointment as Jerry’s has some truly inventive dishes and interesting flavor combinations. Our selections were quite patchy in warmth with many a cold spot in each dish. The coffee is really nonplus which is a letdown when you get to dessert. Dishes and flatware had remnants from the meals of those who dined before us on them. Service: By and large the staff is friendly. We were visited infrequently. Ambiance: The space is tight with many unfortunately placed tables. Overall, it felt chaotic. AmEx is not accepted.

Had such an enjoyable dinner here with my parents. The space is very intimate, and the décor makes you feel almost like you’re at a friend’s house for dinner. If you’re ever in the burbs, definitely worth checking out. We started with house salads and the crispy shrimp cakes, both were great. For dinner, my mom had a fish special and my dad had the bolognese pasta which they were very happy with. The fish was seasoned very well with dill/lemon and the pasta was really hearty. I had the sea bass and it was cooked perfectly! I loved the vegetables that came along with it and the sweet/spicy Asian sauce. We were there celebrating a birthday and had the cherry cobbler for dessert with raspberry gelato. So awesome. Actually, every dessert we saw going out looked awesome! They also serve Julius Meinl coffee in a french press which you really can’t beat. I’ll absolutely be trying to convince my parents for another trip here when I come up to the burbs!

Arranged a special night for my 10th anniversary with a wedding bouquet replica and bottle of prosecco waiting for us at the table. Dinner was good until a glass was spilled and shattered all over me. The manager said he would make good on the mishap and offered me a $ 7 discount at the end of a $ 200 meal. I wasn’t happy and asked for more. He kept me waiting for a good 20 minutes and came back with $ 18 dollars off the bill. I was still unhappy as that would barely cover the dry cleaning and the full glass of prosecco that we lost. After another 15 minutes and much arguing, he finally took care of the cost of the bottle($ 35) but told me to NEVERRETURN! Nice customer service jacka**.

Busy Saturday night and we asked for an outside table with our reservation this was confirmed. When we arrived we were then were told none were available and they don’t take reservations for outside tables. Not a good start and the host was less than apologetic about the miscommunication. Sitting inside is noisy and frenetic. Service is… well they appeared stressed and overwhelmed. All was redeemed however by the food. Beet Salad is the best. Gazpacho, Grilled Trout and the Skirt Steak were superb. Excellent wine list/by the glass. We’ll be back but. I do think they need to get a handle on their reservation system, table service and seating and do something about inside noise. So great food but …

My wife and I just recently moved to Winnetka. We had some guests up for the weekend and went to Jerry’s for dinner. Bad choice. We arrived on time for our reservation and the host greeted us. He then greeted a group that walked in after us who admitted being over half an hour late. The host proceeded to seat the late party before us and consequently, we were stuffed in the last table they had. If you have been to Jerry’s, you know. The seating is scrambled and it appears they are trying to seat as many as possible to make a buck rather than provide a comfortable environment. Next, we ordered a few appetizers. Nothing complicated… we thought. The«Spring Rolls» we ordered turned out to be deep fried greasy egg rolls. Do they actually have a «Chef» or is it someone they are just calling a chef? Pretty sad. The entrees were nothing spectacular but… the dessert,…THEDESSERTWASSPECTACULAR… A SPECTACULARDISSAPOINTMENT!!! What was billed as a «Warm Basket of Homemade Cookies» — No kidding — turned out to be a plate of cold cookies obviously made with shortening rather than real butter… just disgusting. So far the food in Winnetka is sub-par at best. Jerry’s has been touted as the best and was a miserable failure. Can anyone with a palate tell me why they are still in business? I am personally offended that Jerry’s asks people to pay for that… food. This is a poor attempt at haute cuisine. There is a peculiar absence of good food in Winnetka. Little Ricky’s, Jerry’s, Boris Café… Are you kidding me? if you are looking for good food, stay out of 60093.

I came in tonight for my birthday, I was accidentally half an hour late for my reservation and they didn’t blink an eye… such a cute little place! We sat at a nicely located table, it was just wobbly. I love that Wednesday nights are BYOB and I love my birthday fell on a Wednesday this year! We definitely came stocked up on the beer, but they have a nice little selection of craft beers not on the menu(great lakes, etc). Overall, a lovely experience, the host/owner remembered it was my day beyond the introduction, the curried chicken was a great choice(extremely mild, but once I added chopped jalepenos to the delicious mango chutney, which were quickly delivered, I was very pleased). The pasta dish was well-recieved, though I was surprised they don’t make pasta in house(flavorful and well-cooked regardless). The menu may seem all over the map(literally, it has asian, italian, and indian dishes), but fresh, flavorful food made for a great evening.

It was my mom’s birthday and we were looking for a nice place to indulge in a girls lunch. Jerry’s delivered. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. And while yes, it is streetside tables, it’s a quiet-ish street in Winnetka so it’s hardly as if you’re sitting underneath the El. Our server could not have been nicer — he even gave my mom a coupon for a free birthday cookie on her next visit since we were far too full after lunch to even consider dessert. I believe their menu changes regularly, but on this September day, my mother had an asian-inspired salad and I had chickpea patties(aka falafel). Both were outstanding. I will definitely return!
