This seems like a great place for dates. Their kimchi cheese fries were on point if you are used to kimchi. The kimchi could be less salty and more fermented for my taste. If combined with more seasoned meat, that would be perfect.

Amazing restaurant offering Chinese cuisine with a touch of Indian delicacies too. Try their Hakka chow fried rice with chicken and Singapore noodles– both amazing and do mention of u like the chicken diced up or u will have huge chunks of chicken in rice. The owner of restaurant if very nice and hospitable and makes sure everything is upto standard. The stuff is super friendly and professional too. P. s. They make amazing tandoori chicken flatbread and crab wontons.

This is an unknown treasure in Winston Salem. The food is amazing. The service is impeccable. The owner always comes out and greets us everytime. The ambiance is beautiful. Most importantly the price is unbelievably reasonable. I have paid more for less. Hakkachow is one of the best restaurants in Winston Salem!

Food was good. Service extremely slow for there to have been 3 waiters and 5 groups of 4 or less. Waited longer to order and get the check than for the food. Would hate to come at a busy time.

OK, so I really don’t make(or have) the time to Unilocal review everywhere I go, so I save it for the really great or really poor places. Yes, I’m a venter when needed and a cheerleader when warranted. This is one occasion where I wish I lived in Winston-Salem because I would go here OFTEN! While visiting my dad last week he took us to HakkaChow and my first thought was that this was a chain restaurant. After speaking with the waiter he said it was family owned, which made sense because the food, service, atmosphere was all just excellent! Ask anyone I know and they’ll tel you that I seldom get excited about food, but this was truly special. I had the walnut chicken dish and couldn’t get enough. Others at our table equally enjoyed their meals. Obviously I highly recommend this restaurant and hope you enjoy it as much when you go… which you should… tonight!

I like this place-the food choices are extensive, staff are friendly and the food is very tasty. Two hopefully constructive comments: when my food was served it was just warm– not hot… I wondered if it had sat out for awhile as the restaurant was busy. That is a detail that that could/should be addressed. Secondly, our waiter suggested the garlic naan to the member of our party who ordered curry and then a while later, the manager? Owner? Came around checking on our food and went on and on about how he should get the garlic naan with the curry. Enough already about garlic naan. Why is that being pushed so hard? Suggesting is fine, pushing is not.

Had dinner here for the first time on Friday night. Thankfully I had made a reservation ahead of time as it was packed. Pros: Really enjoyed the ambiance, nice wine list, outstanding service. We tried the lettuce wraps with tofu and the spring rolls for appetizers; both were delicious. The lettuce wraps came with lots of the mushroom/celery/carrot/etc. filling… way more than we had lettuce for! Our waiter noticed and offered to bring us more lettuce. We all ordered vegetarian: my husband had the Mapo Tofu and loved it; he said it was perfectly cooked and tasty. My mom tried the green curry and enjoyed it. Both dishes were more than enough for two meals. Prices were good: we paid for two entrees, both appetizers, and a glass of wine and it was $ 44. Con: Only con was my dinner: I got the Aloo and Gobi which had a nice flavor but there was oil standing on top of it in the bowl(as well as quickly pooling in the bottom once you spooned a serving out); that was a turn-off. It was definitely still edible; I just had to spoon the oil off. Will definitely be back again!

I highly recommend this restaurant as a higher end Asian restaurant. I have had the spring rolls, Mongolian beef, panko crusted honey peanut chicken, general tso chicken, and my favorite so far — chicken pad Thai. Everything I’ve had has been delicious and filling. The chicken pad Thai has the wide noodles that don’t stick together, and it is so good. I had the lemongrass ginger cocktail on the drink menu, and it immediately became my favorite drink. I’ve never had any cocktail that was so tasty with such beautifully balanced flavors. I highly recommend this cocktail.

Loved it! The food was simply amazing. The service was great. Our waiter was Cameron and had been there about a month but was very knowledgeable about food prep, the menu and provided many great suggestions. The menu at first is a bit overwhelming due to the many choices but now is just more reason for me to go back. The only negative, did not deduct from my overall score because of my other great experiences was the bartender. We had a short wait on New Year’s Day so we headed to the bar to quench our thirst. We were the only people at the bar. As soon as we sat down the bartender left the bar and returned a few minutes later(still had not greeted us) and went straight to the cash register. We waited for several more minutes and as he was about to turn and leave again I grabbed his attention for a few wine lists. He graciously provided and left again. It was not until I grabbed his attention again that we were able to order drinks. The dinner experience made up for the negative bar experience. Looking forward to returning SOON!

If you are a fan of asian, Chinese fusion food & sushi & in winston salem you have to try this place ! Your evening can never go wrong ! They have a large seating area, ample parking space and variety of choices to choose from their menu, the lighting in the dining area makes the place perfect for any party, romantic dinners or any kind of bridal showers etc . Now coming to their menu they are the best at any thing they do. But do try their hakka lettuce wraps, the most tastiest crab wontons **, kimchi cheese fries, curry cocconut soup, tandoori chicken flat bread(to die for)& their signature hakka chow chicken fried rice !!! Their waiters, staff & their owner are v v friendly, the owner sees to it she cmes around each time personally & asks you how was the food(mind you every time) And guys dnt forget to book your reservations in advance on weekends, before public holidays cause its usually full & difficult to find a table . Average meal for two can cost anywhere frm btwn 20– 25 $

Delicious sushi! I ordered a spicy tuna roll and caterpillar roll. Both were good, especially the crab on the spicy tuna roll. The bourbon and coke was well made and the service was excellent and quick. I can’t wait to eat here again. And it’s also beautifully decorated, probably a good place for a date.

It is rare that I give 5stars to a restaurant. But this one deserves it. Went here with my wife for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is beautiful Asian décor. The service was on point with seating, drinks, and even checking on us every 10mins or so. And the restaurant was packed. Food took a little longer then we expected to come to our table. But then we realized why. It was ALL fresh made to order. Even the egg rolls(btw the wasabi-duck sauce, absolutely love!). I had the General Tsos Chicken. A very light batter with huge pieces of chicken, all white meat chicken. Sauce was a great sweet/salty combination that really pulled the dish together. While it was a little pricy for lunch($ 25 for 2), it was well worth the money. We left happy, full and added anotherr favorite to our list of regular restaurants.

This was our first visit to Hakka Chow. We live close by and have meant to try it for over a year now. With a friend in town we decided to try it tonight, a Monday at 7:30. There were only a few other tables in the dining room. It was a beautiful dining area with a view of the expo/kitchen area. The service was great, always there when we needed something and not intrusive during our conversations with an old friend. They have $ 3 drafts on Monday nights so we ordered a round of Saporos. We order to appetizers, a Hakka Chow Special Roll from the sushi menu and the Tuna Tutaki from the Starter menu. Both were excellent. The special roll was topped with fried shallots and garlic which added a great crunch and plenty of flavor. There were scallops on top and everything was fresh and very clean flavor. The Tuna was seared lightly on the outside edge and rare on 90 percent of it. It was drizzled with a sauce that complimented it nicely. We tried the XO Crispy Duck, which was very crisp on the outside and moist in the middle. The star is the crispy skin, but no other extravagant flavors other than a hoisin sauce to dip the duck. We also had the Korean Beef Bulgogi which was tender and flavorful. It was also piled high, resembling a volcano with the bright red kimchi garnish on top. It was excellent. My favorite dish was the Kimchi Noodle Soup. This one will get your nose running with the gradual heat of the kimchi mixed into the broth. There were several large pieces of pork belly, the most tender chicken breast, green onions, a fried egg and plenty of noodles. This is a big, hearty dish even though it’s chicken broth as a base. There’s a lot going on in here, but if you like kimchi, love noodles and need to warm your belly or open the sinuses, this is just what the doctor ordered. We finished off the night with fried bananas and ice cream. I’m stuffed, but already thinking about a return visit.

My friend and I had the best experience here last night. Great food, drinks, and service. I ordered Malaysian chicken, ocean breeze drink, and egg roll appetizer. Everything awesome! The manager came to our table and was very nice and cordial. Nice ambiance! All around great time !

Only had starters and drinks at the bar. However, I was very impressed. This was one of the only times I have had freshly made Crab Rangoon with real crab. Imitation crab is ubiquitous in a crab wonton. If you have to ask it’s not. This tasted sweet and crabby! Even Spongebob would approve. The hot chili oil accented it perfectly. Also, very good sushi rolls — and I’m picky as heck about those. Spicy tuna was chopped not dumped-in-the-blender consistency. Yellowtail and scallion was very fresh and bright with flavor. Bartender was young and overwhelmed. But very friendly.

Seriously some of the best food I have had in a very long time. This was my first time coming today. They weren’t busy, and it took a little bit to be served. Finally a guy, who informed us he wasn’t our server, but took our drink order. If anything this was about the only negative thing that could be said about the whole meal. We looked through the menu, it is very vast with lots of wonderful sounding things. We decided to explorer a little and order the tuna sushi roll, and spare ribs. The server came back after putting in the order, and we told him what we wanted to order our main meal. Our meal came with salad, or for $ 1 up charge a choice of soup. I asked about the Thai coconut soup, the waiter strongly suggested it. My wife had hot and sour soup. We were asked if we wanted our soup now or after our apps. We said now would be fine. I know see why the Thai Coconut soup was so strongly recommended. It was delicious, very creamy, it was a little heavy on the Scallions, but was very flavorful, and very good. My wife got hot & sour soup and was good, but no where as good mine. We got done with the soup, and they cleared the dishes, and our sushi arrived. Not a lot of rice, which was fine, but the tuna was very fresh, and had large portions of it. Not 100% sure I would order sushi from here again. Not that. It was bad, it just wasn’t as good as the next item. The spare ribs, honestly these were beyond amazing. Fall off the bone, and the sauce, a sweet/spicy hoisin sauce. It was beyond amazing. Then our meal comes out. I had teriyaki beef with jasmine Rice, my wife had the Korean beef with brown rice. The meat in both of our dishes was clearly well prepared, the sauce on mine was good, but they did have a white sauce they gave it some more flavor. My wife, who lives things spicy said her dish was perfect. What I had was good, but the soup and appetizer out shined it. I will be back to try other things, I was very impressed. The selection and prices were what I expected, and beside a little slow service at the beginning this was easily one of the best experience I have had in a long time.

Walked in and was impressed by the atmosphere. Very modern, stylish and reminded me a 4 star hotel. Big menu with a wide variety of food to pick from. Ordered the fried rice based on recommendations from here and was not disappointed. Probably the best fried rice in town! Sushi is extremely expensive here, maybe I missed a special or something? Otherwise, if you are looking for a good place to date a take or have a nice dinner. Hit these guys up. Great service too!

Prominent gluten free menu. Yaaay! AND Gluten free soy sauce, so I wanted to try sushi but was feeling noodley… Beef Chow Ho Fun was not at all disappointing. Curry Chicken Coconut Soup was so good I wanted to jam my straw into it. I’m late to the game(opened last year) but excited about this place! Hope it gives the big Asian chain opening on Stratford soon a run for its money. Gorgeous décor, attentive servers(at lunch, Drew was great). TWOBIGGFTHUMBSUP!

Hakka Chow is all around delightful! I have never been for dinner, but their lunch menu is quite reasonable for the quality and quantity of food you receive. The sushi is good. The Vietnamese dishes are good(the Vermicelli Beef Noodle Salad is my favorite). The Indian inspired dishes are good. The Korean dishes are good. Have I made my point yet? I love that there is so much variety to their menu. Where else can you go and get a choice between 5 – 6 different types of ethnic cuisine? The only reason this place isn’t getting 5 stars in my book is because of their inconsistency with speed of service. They get so busy at lunch, they would benefit from having a few more people on staff during the peak hours of business. Overall, a lovely, lovely place to have a great meal.

This was Sweet Alice’s choice for her birthday luncheon, and it turned out to be a rather disappointing and frustration experience, that encompassed both service and food failures, made palatable only by virtue of the company. We arrived at Noon, and there were already 5 or 6 tables occupied, so I guess the opening time is an estimate. We were left to our own devices for a while, then a manager type person came by to take our drink order, and finally our waitress appeared. We placed our order, and I watched as she went to 2 more tables(one with 9 people) and took all the orders before taking any to the kitchen for processing. It was becoming obvious that the wait staff was under-staffed and under pressure, turns out there were only two on the floor taking orders. The kitchen also was under stress since it took 25 minutes to get a single appetizer, and another 30 minutes to get our entrees. We watched as tables who arrived well after us,. received their appetizers and entrees well before we did — and the couple beside us with 2 small children experienced the same treatment, and even incorrect items delivered to their table. The food, once received, was not nearly at the quality level we’d experienced previously there was still some good here, but much diminished. The Korean Seafood Pancake($ 9.95) was well sized, as it should have been considering the price, but it was very doughy, with a hint of crispiness only at the very edges — this dish appeared to simply be very under cooked(stress on the kitchen?). The texture and the doughy taste completely masked the taste of the seafood — which was very nice, once extracted the mass of the pancake, especially the small shrimp. The Kim Chi Noodles Soup($ 13.95) which had provided such an explosion of sharp, fresh tastes before, was incredibly bland, and simply dull — the«spicy broth» was just broth, and the small amount of kim chi lacked any flavor. The house made chili oil helped, but this dish, with these ingredients, should stand on its own. The Salt & Pepper Prawns($ 15.95) was another major disappointment — the shrimp lacked freshness, and the coating was soggy, nothing remotely crispy. The Baby Bok Choy was excellent, but that is an expensive dish just to come away liking the cabbage. The Szechuan Beef($ 14.95) was an excellent dish, and remains one of my favorite versions of this classic. The Indian Chicken Curry(a relative bargain at($ 7.95) was also very nice, and this is an authentic Indian curry, with a nice spice level, and lacks the cloying sweetness brought on by the use of coconut milk in so many curries. The wait staff, and most likely the kitchen as well, seemed very understaffed and it showed in every respect. People with knowledge of the situation(to use a mainstream media cop out) indicated this has become a normal thing, especially on weekends. This is too far to come, and too much to spend, to accept such poor quality of food and service. Odds are not good for a return without some indication that things have changed. I was a little concerned before we came because of some recent, negative reviews from several sites, which seem to have basis in fact.

I was definitely not disappointed by Hakka Chow. It wasn’t perfect, but it’s a pretty good offbeat Asian eatery that isn’t afraid to sway from your standard Asian fare. The menu seems fantastic. I started off with an oolong tea, which was served in a generous portion. The cocktail list earns creativity points, although I can’t comment on the cocktails themselves because I didn’t have one. The ambiance is A+++ as well. I love the décor. I could be cliché and say«it’s like PF Changs» but it’s much better than the décor at PF Changs. It truly feels like a local artisan restaurant, like it is. PF Changs still give off that chain-y vibe by the décor. The sushi tasted fresh and better than your standard sushi fare. The positives outweigh the negatives by far, but there were a few negatives. While the waiter was polite and super down-to-earth, the service was slow. It may not have been the servers fault and I think the food here takes a longer time to cook than some places. We waited a good while for our food to arrive. Lastly, I would not order my entrée again. I got the coconut red curry. It was okay, but the vegetables were mushy and the sauce tasted bland. They really could have used a bit more seasoning. Also, the tofu had a weird mushy breading. When I eat tofu, I like it crispy. This was not your usual tofu from an Asian restaurant. I did try Tori’s seared ahi, and it was seasoned well. I think some of their dishes are hit or miss, but it won’t stop me from returning. All in all, the sushi was great, tea was great, and the cocktails are something I want to come back and try. This place really has a creative spin on a lot of dishes. Next on my list to try are the kim chi cheese fries. This place is definitely a step above the other Asian eateries in town and I applaud them for not being afraid to step out of the boring box some restaurants get stuck in.
