Hoots is a small batch brewing company that shares space in a building with Porch Cantina. If the Brady Bunch opened a bar in their Rumpus Room, it would be Hoots. There’s a real seventies feel throughout the décor. Love the portholes on the wall where you can look at the brew tanks. And who doesn’t love an old brass diving helmet with beer taps in it? Plenty of seats, indoor and out, relaxed lighting, 3 pinball machines. The bartender was super nice, knew some stuff about the beer and made a killer Fresh Cucumber and Mint Cooler when I switched gears from beer. It was made with gin that was made locally(the next building over) and had more of a citrusy taste than the usual juniper berry. Now for the beer — really enjoyed the Gashopper IPA(one of their flagships) and loved the seasonal Strawberry Saison. Nuff Said!

I continuously find myself in the breweries of different towns, and unfortunately this was not as pleasant as others. I am not a Winston Salem native so my review must be taken with the«single visit» grain of salt. The bar area was not clean or organized. The bartender was more interested in socializing with customers he knew than assisting new customers with finding the right drink.

Great vibe, really special craft cocktails, cool bartenders, terrific Hoots-brewed stout, in-house fernet(what other local bar has that?), pinball, Saturday afternoon cartoons… what more could one ask? Especially with a delicious taco joint in the same building. Love it.

So this place is in a sketchy part of downtown, however it is next to the restaurant the patio. My advice, grab a beer then go get some food at the restaurant. This place does have in-house bird beer, and pretty decent with relatively high ABV, However the selection is limited. I do you like the vibe inside, very chill and relaxed setting.

A guy named Zane got a rimjob in the bathroom here, other than that the booze are perfect!

I was a first time customer and I had one beer I was charged for two. Because I was there for 30 minutes with an empty pint for 20. All because they were trying to fix there bootleg karaōke sysyem. Don’t get me wrong I would have waited except for the fact, I tried to tell the bartender I had only had a drink when he said I had«been sitting there a while and had more than one…: I am in the same building daily but I still take the drive to first street. Far better service and an impeccable relationship with the servers!!!

I love this little gem. Their house-made syrups are delicious(I always get the ginger), they play dope music and the staff are always super friendly. The pinball machine is addictive. When it’s nice outside, their patio is the best. Highly recommend this place, especially if you want to avoid the overly douchy-filled bars downtown

I love this little bar! It took me quite a few times to find it, since the address was wrong. Totally glad I did. My sister & I frequent on Sunday’s or Monday’s, the bartender is always nice. I like their different types of beer, I really like the cucumber one though, it’s awesome! I’ve run into the owner a few times, he’s always nice. There is a taco truck on Monday’s which totally ruins Meatless Monday’s for me. They do have vegetarian options, but I love MEAT, so I end up eating em. Taco’s, good beer & a nice atmosphere how can you go wrong?! You can’t!

Hoots is a wonderful bar/brewery! Their cucumber ale is easily my favorite beer of all time and I wish they had it year round, I would go every other day or so :). The bartenders are typically pretty nice and it’s only a few feet from The Porch, so anytime we go there for a taco we always swing by Hoots before or after for a pint! Love this place

Beer and atmosphere where excellent. Quite an interesting selection of house brews. Unfortunately the scratchy voice guy felt compelled to call me an asshole. Very classy staff member. You probably should not call your customers assholes. No tip for you.

Beers here are mediocre at best. ESB is unremarkable and IPA was sour. Try Small Batch or Foothills for better beers.

Every time I’ve come here, I have really enjoyed myself. The staff is super friendly and helpful and I love the outdoor seating. They brew their own beer and upon choosing what I would have my first time I was convinced to sample their cucumber brew. I didn’t think i would like it, but it was AMAZING! So refreshing and yum, I was so pleasantly surprised. I think it’s gone for the season, but maybe they could do one more batch! Please?! Go try it out Hoots. you won’t be disappointed!

Delicious craft brewery in #wsnc. They have a good mix of standard beers and rotating seasonals. Great atmosphere in a renovated warehouse.

Funky, local spot with a unique vibe and cool folks. They brew their own beer(Gashopper IPA is my favorite!). Hoots hosts a lot of really neat local events and they often have delicious local food trucks out front. I follow their Facebook page for updates. Love swinging by here for a beer!

Great atmosphere, good beer, excellent service. My wife and I stopped by one night for a couple drinks and will definitely come back. The beers were good, tried to the Gashopper IPA and 100 days Porter, untapped both of these. Great atmosphere to relax, listen to music, and converse over a few beers.

A casual, hand-crafted cocktail, brewery, and meeting place. Professional, down-to-earth, and courteous people behind the bar only add more to the quality of the drinks, and finds them usually playing their personal and obscure music. This is an alternative business, meaning nothing here is corporate or based on numbers. It is based on yummy concoctions derived from the efforts of dedicated and hard-working people. Love the vibe and the diverse clientele. Bring your skateboard and tear it up in the parking lot.

Great little bar tucked away in the West End Mill Works. A bit tough to find, but definitely worth it once you’re there. It’s a cozy little darkly-lit space, great to stop by for a pint with friends. There’s no food here, but on Monday nights there’s a taco truck(at least when I was there) parked right outside the entrance. Probably one of the best tacos I’ve had, so I should probably review them as well! Beers are so-so — I tried 3 beers and I wasn’t in love with any of them. But I’m sure by the time you read this they’ll have an entirely new collection of seasonal offerings! Service was very friendly. Staff is incredibly chatty and seemed borderline eager to serve me. I would have no problems rolling up to the bar some night for a solo pint or two, and just shooting the breeze with the bartenders.

Good atmosphere. We were served quickly. The bar tender answered my questions about the different flavored syrups. I look forward to trying one next time. Laid back place to grab a beer. They also have outside seating.

Hoots is a great new brewery/bar located in the West End Mill Works. To get here you turn down the little street right before the gas station that you think will lead to nowhere. False, it leads you right to hoots! The interior of Hoots is nice, its not too big, but not too small either. I have been a bit earlier on a Friday night and had no problem getting a table. The plan is for them to start brewing their own beer starting this month(January 2014)! The ladies that I went with enjoyed Hoot’s current beer selection that they were rocking and I went with a cider. I wish I liked beer, I really do! I have also tried some of their cinnamon soda and it was awesome; which leads me to imagine they make pretty good cocktails which I will have to try the next time I am in. The bartenders are always friendly and answer any questions you may have. Word is that they make a pretty spectacular bloody Mary with homemade mix for Sunday brunch! They have a patio out front which lends itself to be the perfect setting for a Sunday afternoon Bloody Mary once the weather warms up.

First review? Hell yes. Only time will tell if Hoots becomes a classic, but this new entry into the West End bar scene has all the makings of a player. With a Soon-to-open craft brewery, the Bar sits in the renovated Hoots mill property.(Still TBD when the first home pours will be available). Great look and feel — the interior is laden with funky woodwork and has a warm industrial feel of a cool city loft. Good cheap beer and a competent booze wall of offerings have what you need. The servers were friendly and generally seemed stoked to be here. You can sit outside at one of the tables and admire the big ol’ lot and old ass buildings. Cool cool bar and general hangout spot. Hope it’s here to stay.
