I am very impressed with this restaurant. Highlight not already mentioned by previous reviews– Prime Rib– super yummy, not too fatty, nice bark. Asparagus– great flavor, cooked to the correct texture.(they do need longer bowls for that) Ceviche– this had a twist, in an artichoke mold with delicate greens and balsamic, very good but did not quench my desire for ceviche Nice decadent chocolate cupcake to finish. I will say pretzel rolls and she crap soup are awesome, but that is redundant:)

We came here for my birthday and it was a great experience! Our waiter was very attentive and friendly and it was fast service as well. Our filets were delicious we both enjoyed them, they had great seasoning. I really like the location of the restaurant as well. They have open windows in the restaurant that show a great view! I recommend coming here if you like steak and a good view!

I’m a steak fanatic, and I heard this was one of the best places around to get one. So I made the trip from Greensboro to Winston Salem to see if this place was worth the drive. I started out with the she crab soup. Like I said, I’m a steak guy lol not a soup guy, but it was highly recommended so I gave it a shot. Honestly, it was the best soup I ever had. So flavorful I couldn’t put my spoon down. The bread along with the cheese spread is both very good and addicting! For my meal I went with the ribeye along with the french fries. The steak was cooked perfectly. It was very good. I saved just enough room to have some dessert. I had the triple chocolate cake along with a scoop of ice cream. That combination is my favorite dessert always, and there’s didn’t disappoint. The cake was so moist like it was melting as I bit into it. So good. The service was awesome and high class. I really can’t think of one bad thing to say about my dining experience here. It was great and it will be a restaurant that I will be back to soon.

Ryan’s is my go to steakhouse in Winston. We booked on opentable and still had to wait about 15 minutes before we got sat. We had a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. Once we were sat we had to wait some more for someone to take our dinner order. My husband was starved and looking so pathetic I finally had to ask the manager for someone to take our order. Now for the food: My husband had the wreck fish and the hydroponic bibb salad, both on special. They were both so good, I kicked myself that I didn’t get the fish… but hey, we were at a steakhouse. I had the she crab soup(to die for,), the filet with blue cheese crumbles, the buttermilk mashed potatoes and the bacon and blue cheese brussel sprouts. My filet was overcooked the first time. I like mid rare and it came out medium to mid well. I always love Ryan’s filets, but I just wasn’t feeling it this time. The flavor and texture was just off. The buttermilk mashed potatoes were not my favorite(there’s a whole lotta buttermilk in them taters). The bacon and blue cheese brussel sprouts were yummy. My husband and I pondered the cooking technique used to get rid of the typical pungent taste of brussel sprouts. They had a strawberry red velvet cheesecake on special that I tried to order, but they were sold out of. The server said that red velvet is essentially chocolate cake… so she concocted a bootleg version of the special with cheesecake on top of chocolate cake with some strawberry syrup. It was good, but red velvet cake is so NOT chocolate cake. Nice try. Overall, even though there were a few hiccups I still really love Ryan’s and it’s still my favorite place for steak in Winston.

most of the dishes are highly seasoned. the restaurant was nice. Nice décor, service and atmosphere. I was not impressed with the meat dishes. They seemed to be seasoned too much. I order different things each time. I cannot eat fish. Not been back in long while. The plate is full with food served. I have not been there much.

Not just a steakhouse, the Sea Bass was incredible. This place has a nice vibe, old school but not old. Service was very good food and drink was worth the bill.

Full disclosure… I’ve only visited Ryan’s once, and it was for a food & wine pairing dinner in partnership with The Winston-Salem Wine Market. So, I can’t comment on the regular menu or dining experience. However, I can comment on the delicious food that was prepared for us. Everything was absolutely delicious. We had a four course meal consisting of a goal cheese salad with pesto vinaigrette, sweet potato bisque, steak with root vegetables, and flourless chocolate torte. The bisque was one of the most delicious things I’ve tasted in ages, and it paired really nicely with the wine. The steak was also tasty and prepared/seasoned to my liking. The hub & I will definitely return to dine at Ryan’s again!

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good food. We sat in the back and had a nice view of the trees. I didn’t wear a sport coat but wish I did. Very classy place.

Fantastic service and excellent food! We will definitely go back here to celebrate an important occasion. The atmosphere is lovely, and it’ snot stuffy like some steakhouses are. Love the converted house and forest view.

I was in town on business & looked to the Unilocalers for help when looking for a steakhouse & found this place. Thank you Unilocalers again, the staff was awesome & the food was amazing. I had the oysters Rockefeller, fillet mignon, shrimp, loaded baked potato & Pom frets. Everything was cooked perfect & presented very well. If you are ever in W. S –N.C I highly recommend this place.

My wife and I went to Ryan’s for dinner because we were in the mood for something really nice and to «celebrate» the purchase of a new car. I agree with what one Unilocaler wrote when he said it was a bit dated. It does have the feel of an 70’s/80’s high end restaurant. Dim soft light in the dining rooms, dark wood walls, little brass here and there, you know the style if you are a Unilocaler at least 35+ years old. This being the case I decided that the best appetizer to order would be an all time classic, French Onion Soup. My wife ordered another French classic, Fired brie. The soup was good, not spectacular but a solid choice. The fried brie was in a macadamia nut crust served with a green salad and a blackberry/chipotle jam and a balsamic reduction. It was, again, good. She enjoyed it but I prefer cheese to be a little more«funky». We washed it down with some decent California sparkling wine. Entrée time came and she decided to go with the NY Strip w/baked potato and I with the Ribeye and the Yukon Gold Mashed potatoes. As far as the steaks go they were great. A nice crust on the outside, cooked perfectly to temp(mid-rare), and had a wonderful flavor. I will agree with some other that say they are a bit pricey, but I don’t mind paying a premium if the steak is worth it, and I can say in this case I was. We paired a Stags Leap Cabernet Sauvignon with the entrees. Like they say«Nothing beats A Cab and a Slab!» We decided to split the NY Cheesecake for dessert and honestly this was the low point of the meal. Not to say that it was bad, it wasn’t. It was just not a great cheesecake. It didn’t have that decadent velvety texture that I was expecting. I will say that I enjoy the new-style cutting edge chefs that continually push the established culinary boundaries, but I am also a fan of the«old style luxury». Ryan’s provides just that for me, and I will look forward to my next visit.

Wow — again an outstanding dinner at Ryan´s! Have been here the second time: the evening was starting with a perfect welcome from our nice server who was taking care of us the whole evening. The restaurant is located in one of the very well situated areas of Winston at Colliseum Drive. You have the coice to go for the private club room with a bigger group, or enjoy the beautiful view into the green forest when seated in the main restaurant area. Our server was very familar with all offered dishes and able to answer every question. The daily menue is offering a good variety of steak -/fish. Steaks are simply awesome! Grilled to the point. Meat quality can not be better. All of our group were more than satisfied. Vine and beer selection is very large. Try the desserts as well; nicely prepared, with a fantastic taste… The quality is worth the price they are calling for, combined with a outstanding abience and service experience. Always again :)

A must-stop when travelling to Winston-Salem on business. The venue has some rustic charm — always love sitting in the room all the way in the back that overlooks the creek. Not the least expensive, but the food is always cooked perfectly and quality. The bar area is very small, but good while waiting for a table or for an after dinner night cap.

Visited Ryan’s this week for a business meal. Very nice location and atmosphere. Service was nice and sincere. The bar /lounge was very nice and the cheese platter was a very nice touch. Highlights of the meal for me were the oysters from PEI, scalloped potatoes, and the key lime pie special for dessert. The steak was good, though mine was overcooked. Thank You.

I’ve been here twice on business trips and was able to splurge both times. Nestled in the woods of Winston-Salem, this restaurant provides a fine dining experience that’s absolutely superb. The staff is polite and very knowledgeable. Let’s get down to the food! First time I got the 16 ounce prime ribeye, medium rare with button mushrooms for the side. The steak was cooked to perfection, juicy and extremely tender. I’d recommend getting the mussels for an appetizer as well. Second time around, it was half off ALL bottles of wine! Picked out a 40th anniversary Caymus that normally goes for $ 100(retails for $ 65, so what a deal!) Did surf and turf this time, with a cold water lobster tail paired with a 6 ounce petit filet. I decided to up the ante and got it oscar style(crab chunks on top smothered with a bernaise sauce and asparagus) with bleu cheese and bacon brussels sprouts for the side. This was easily the best meal I’ve had in North Carolina. Finished it off with a crème brûlée that was absolutely divine. Needless to say, whenever I’m back out in Winston-Salem, this restaurant will be my first stop, and it should be yours as well!

The manager/owner was completely rude & I had a bad experience, that’s that. Our waiter was perfect– I think his name is david. The steak tastes like a salt lick. Cheese spread is good as always.

We went there for our 20th anniversary last night. Waitress was OUTSTANDING. Décor could use an update especially bathroom. VERYPRICEY!!! My husband said his steak(Ribeye) was excellent. I get filet migon when I get steak and mine was not better than Longhorn and Texas Roadhouse. Our bill for 2 was over 100 bucks. Oh and you only get steak and potatoe NOSALAD included. They did give us 2 cupcakes for our anniversary. Just Too pricey for me but fine for people that wanna spend that much.

Six Unilocal stars! ! ! *** *** Fantastic! Very Romantic! It makes me imagine a Ski Lodge in Switzerland(even though I have Never been to Europe). Saturday Night we sat at the Top of the three Split Levels in the large Dinning Room. Great views of the dense green forest from almost anywhere! Since the Restaurant is built on the side of a hill(you may not notice until you look out the windows because you enter the restaurant ground level from the parking lot)! Saturday Evening as the Sun was setting the view outside was incredibly amazing! The outside view as Dusk approaches has an «other world» look! If we were in Switzerland I imagine a converging of Cuisines like the cultures of Switzerland and the influences from dishes in nearby countries: Germany(oohps sorry, Deutschland), France, Italy and Vietnam(guess I just flunked Geometry, I mean Geography too or I have a GREAT imagination! She Crab Soup Very Nice flavored with a little Sherry, 5 Unilocal stars! Chicken Spring Rolls! These were No Joke [meaning they were Superb]. The Sauce I can not begin to describe this sauce, except to say it is EXCEPTOINAL! 5 Unilocal stars Pretzel Rolls, YUM! The other breads wee way to ordinary for Ryan’s… The Whipped Butter was Fantastic and the Cheddar Cheese Spread was Amazing and I’m not usually impressed with«bread spreads»! African Lobster Tails! If you LOVE Lobster and have never had African Lobster Tails this IS a TREAT! Very Different flavor from Maine and Pacific Lobster! Butter Heater(candle lit, so we were keeping a few bites in the very hot butter while we enjoyed the other food)… Another nice touch! In some restaurants you only get a small bowl of warm butter… At Ryan’s you get the Butter Heater! 5 Unilocal stars for the African Lobster Tail! Beef, Mmmm Great Flavor! This entrée was one of the features, They used Coffee and maybe a red wine, a demi-glaze I think. The Coffee enhanced the flavor [nice touch, barely detectable! 4.45 stars Mashed Potatoes with Caramelized Onions(we did not have reservations, yet it seemed they were expecting us)! Probably the Best Mashed Potatoes I have tasted and a GREAT idea for Potato Cakes [Ryan’s this is my gift to you!] 5 Unilocal stars. Dessert was very good, a Chocolate Tart with Espresso in the Sauce, 4.25 stars! This was the featured Dessert and was the only one that sounded enticing! If you ever read one of my reviews and I have not mentioned Dessert, you can safely assume that the establishment was not offering something that that sounded and or Looked Extraordinary! We saw some of the other Desserts come out after we had ordered and they did all look good, so my suggestion to Ryan’s is to get a Dessert Tray to show off these Desserts! Give everyone an «excuse» to get one, instead of an excuse not to! Ryan’s makes Great Salad Dressing… In the past I believe they only had one and though it tasted different Saturday I believe it was the«House»! Joe took care of us! Service from the entire TEAM was Fantastic! ! ! An easy 5 Unilocal stars!

Ryan’s is a locally owned, old school steak house that somehow seems to fly under the radar when fine dining in the triad is being discussed — and it definitely is not connected to the chain steak restaurant group. It’s located off Coliseum Drive, secluded in a woodsy setting — it can not be seen from the street area, at all. The interior is made up of 3 or 4 dining areas at different levels, containing a large number of window seats with a nice view of the heavily wooded ravine along the back side of the restaurant. There is very soft lighting, white table cloths, and chandeliers are numerous. The bar area is small, located in the front center, brightly lit, and not particularly warm and fuzzy. The Smoked Salmon appetizer($ 11.75) was huge with some of the very best flavors I’ve encountered in this dish, and I order it often. The Duck Trap River salmon was perfect, the cream cheese contained a nice, tasty mixture of herbs, the taste of the capers was sharp and clean, and even the toast points were excellent — toasted to the point of providing a nice platform without being dry or crumbly. The She Crab Soup($ 7.95) was also delicious — rich and laced with nice chunks of tender crab. The Prime Rib(the smaller Ryan’s Cut for $ 27,50) was perfectly cooked at medium rare, and the taste was super. It comes with a salad and choice of potato. My wife chose the Roasted Potatoes, and frankly, we were not impressed — no real flavor there. Salad with blue cheese were very good, as well. I ordered Seared Scallops with Mained Lobster, and this simply was not a good dish — food just messed about. The scallops and lobster were overcooked and tough. The dish was described as being served with a lobster port wine demiglace — instead it was more like all the items composing the dish were in a form of stew, way too much liquid. The roasted potatoes were soggy, and the puff pastry on top was a disaster. I would definitely not order this dish again. Other notes: Monday is ½ price wine by the bottle, and some nice values here. The bread is not a strong point, pretty ordinary, actually. They do serve a very nice cheese spread with the bread, but I’d ask for crackers or toast points. We arrived early, and were quickly seated. Three or four couples/foursomes came in, and were all were crowded, along with us, in one corner of the largest dining area, with the rest of the area left empty. — this remains one of my pet peeve, why don’t restaurants spread out the diners? All in all, this is a very nice restaurant, one we have been coming to since 1987. Abunp here and there, but much more good than bad. Generally good service, can be a little slow out of the kitchen. Prices are reasonable for the quality received. We’ll be back.
