First time visit last night to buy some garam Masala, green chilies, naan, and whole pickled mango. They have a great selection of pickles and chutneys, and while they seem to have many spices, their selection is not quite as large as what I have seen in other Indian groceries, but you will most likely be able to find what you need if not a close second, sparing less common items. The same goes for the bean/pea rice and flour area, they probably have what your looking for, but not the widest selection of flours I’ve seen, nor rice as there are many more brands and varieties. Their prices are very fair however($ 12 for that much ghee, and $ 1 something for 5 circles of very good naan [the nonfrozen one up front]). They have all of the essentials, plus some excellent samosas and what I believe was dal-stuffed puri. Don’t quote me on that, but throw those babies in the oven on 350 till they sizzle and are hot thrrough and make yourself happy. Don’t worry about the sauce coming from a water bottle, it’s might as well be a ketchup container and it’s delicious. Very happy to have this store around the corner.

What. A. Hidden. Gem. Saying I was pleasantly surprised when I stopped in here for my first time would be a ridiculous understatement. I drive by the place multiple times a day. Every single day. Yet, I’d never stopped in. Today has forever changed that. Walking distance for me, I get the feeling it will be my new reward for going for a walk. There is a VAST selection of spices here — basically anything under the sun you could possibly want. Whole, ground, you name it. Even better, the packages are large(They have smaller ones too, if that’s your style) and the prices are faaaarrr better than any chain grocery store. Next up is the freezer section. There is a huge array of frozen goods, emphasis on Indian specialties. It took every ounce of willpower I have to not buy my weight in naan(I’m not eating bread at the moment). God, it all looked so great. There’s fresh produce — including some awesome finds you’ll never see at Publix, Winn Dixie, or even Whole Foods or Fresh Market. They get their fresh produce in on Fridays, so get it while it’s there! Beyond shelf after shelf after shelf after never-ending shelf of gorgeous spices, there are lots of other non-wheat products. I found(and swiftly bought) puffed rice, flattened rice, rice flour, and tapioca starch — much much cheaper than at Whole Foods(when you can find it). I didn’t partake, but there was also a LARGE selection of Indiana snacks, sweets, teas, and desserts. They even had Masala Lay’s potato chips! Who knew!!! Seriously, can you tell I’m in love? Ahhhhh. Lastly, there was fresh food on the counter in trays. I didn’t uncover it or ask what it was because I wasn’t planning on buying any, but LAWDHAMMERCY did it smell great. One of the items looked similar to an empanada. Anyway, the short version of my story is this: Today was my first visit but will not be my last. GREAT prices, GREAT finds, stupendous selection of spices and Indian cuisine, and a super friendly proprietor. Two thumbs(and 8 fingers and 10 toes) enthusiastically up! P. S. They’re closed on Mondays! But open every other day.

Masala Bazaar is located in a small strip shopping center a block East of the intersection of Goldenrod and University. A million years ago it was a big produce shop, which means there is a nice amount of space for lots of products. Masala Bazaar carries everything from pantry items, spices, health products, produce, frozen and refrigerated items as well as some take and go food items by the register. A very nice husband and wife team own and run the store. My trip in had me leaving with tons of lentil and dal, spices and a ready to eat veggie samosa. The savory pastry was filled with a nicely spiced potato and pea mixture and I would purchase again. I was offered a sample of a chickpea and cheese fritter, similar to a set up polenta in it’s taste and texture, which was delicious and I’d buy on my next trip in. The couple was lovely, very friendly and even gave me a secret insight to making my favorite tamarind sauce at home. Great place to stock up on some authentic Indian cuisine components.

Best Indian grocer in town!!! The staff asked us what we wanted to make, then walked us around the store to help us pick out the ingredients, and even told us step by step how to make it!
