As a female purchasing building material, I’m the first to say chauvinism is well alive in this country. I been talked down to, ignored, and treated like a child. However, the guys at Barker Lumber are nothing but respectful, smart, and responsive. I had a small job and found their name on the yellow pages, as always I toughen up when pricing material, due to my past experience, but these guys were the most amazingly patient group. Answered all my questions, provided advice on my project, and met every time I had concerns. Their customer service is well above any of the Homedepot you find around and their prices are incredibly competitive. I cannot thank them enough for all the attention to detail they provided. They should be teaching customer care to the rest of the national construction companies.

Thank you Barker Lumber Guys. I’m a busy Hands on General Contractor and I just wanted to say that the service I receive daily is excellent. My ordered goods arrive sooner than expected sometimes and the counter personnel keep me posted with follow up calls. I have been all over New England shopping different yards and I really appreciate the positive attitude and respect I get there. One more thing. This is the place to buy lumber. If you want warped, split, and bowed lumber, go to the big box stores. If you want decent quality wood, get it here. This is what a lumber yard used to be. They will also deliver a large order to your house, if you don’t have the right vehicle or don’t want to pick it up. The quality of the wood delivered has always been great.

They are the most unhelpful company I have dealt with. Not only do they not return phone calls, they are disrespectful to long time customers that have done repeated business. They want your money and don’t care about you. They need to learn customer service! After trying to return a product I get treated like crap and ignored after promised service. Never do business with them unless you don’t care how you get treated!

I had called around trying to find a piece of lumber in an unusual size (larger width tongue & groove). Having tried all the places I knew nearby which have large stock but with no luck, I called Barker and spoke with Richard. He took my number and called me back promptly having located just what I needed at a distributor not too far away. He took my order and called the distributor and all was arranged right away for pick-​up. He even called me back again to give me the correct address for GPS. All for one piece of lumber. Great service!

I have only been there once, to order some Marvin windows. I was told that only one guy could order them for me and that he was out. He never called me back. If you want Marvin windows, I would go elsewhere (actually the first guy I spoke to on the phone before going over basically tried to send me elsewhere, but these guys were a lot closer.)
Maybe for other things they are great?
