Mahan’s Lakeview Fine Catering

It comes to respect if you ask me. We were having a funeral dinner after we lost a loved one. The environment was beautiful and the food was fantastic. The workers were completely respectful and so polite. However the manager had some tone when it came to the other workers that I herd recently started working at the facility. He sent them back up stairs in a huff after they volunteered to up bring down food for us. I felt very upset about the managers respect towards them. I don’t believe it is right for someone to treat a new comer like this. Highly disappointed in this manner. Please sir if you are reading this. Please take note to treat your employees more with respect as they do the same to you. It is a new generation. Yours is over.

Had the pleasure of attending a wedding at Mahan’s Lakeview recently. The grounds and the Chapel are beautiful. The catering experience for the evening was a disappointment. I want to comment on food and service.
Food: Melon and prosciutto were very good. Pasta sauce tasted like jarred. The salmon and the glazed carrots were delicious, and people commented that the «turkey was real sliced turkey breast!» What was passed off as chicken marsala was anything but — two huge, not pounded chicken breasts, with really salty Oxo cube brown sauce and some halved button mushrooms. While the oven browned potatoes tasted fine, they were way to large for the plate, and there were too many of them for the portion. All in all, the food was «fine», but I wouldn’t go so far as to say «Fine Catering».
Service: this is why the two stars. Even the crappiest function factories that I’ve been to have had a better service. Let me first say, all the servers were very polite. They obviously have had minimal server training, and it was impossible to tell if there were any banquet captains, or people managing the room. Appetizers and salads were brought out to the perimeter of the room and placed on tray stands, they each server picked up as many as they could carry and dished them out (literally) to place settings. Same deal with the pasta and the entrees. When courses were cleared, servers piled plates at the table, and walked out with as many as they could carry. No clearing to a side tray stand. Everything was done as if by rote. Pleasant wait staff, but NO interaction with guests at the table. The wedding cake was very nice, and the coffee was awful.
What I would LOVE to see for Mahan’s Lakeview is a Robert Irvine intervention. I’m serious. You have beautifully maintained property and grounds, in a picturesque setting. Mediocre food and unmotivated service can be fixed.

(PS — Is the reason why you do the «check in and entrée card distribution» the way you do because you have a problem with wedding crashers? If yes, I’m sorry for that, but you’ve GOT to get a more efficient system!)

We had a family wedding at Mahan’s over Memorial Day weekend. It was outstanding from beginning to end. Eric was as accommodating, polite and professional as could ever be expected, and every member of the staff was attentive and interested in making ths special day memorable. The food was great, the DJ was great .it is a beautiful location. Highly recommended!

Went here for their New Year’s Party. Highly recommended.
The 6 course meal was amazing. Appetizers were abundant. They were replenished and refreshed almost every 15 minutes. Soup came out piping hot, salad was jam packed with fresh vegetables. Penne pasta was in a delectable tomato sauce. Each entrée choice came out overflowing large plates and each person in my party thoroughly enjoyed each one. Dessert was absolutely amazing, apple tart with a large serving of rich vanilla ice cream with cinnamon caramel drizzle. After midnight, there was a huge chocolate fountain and a full breakfast buffet. They pulled out all the stops with the food. Everything was amazing, I only wished I was able to eat more food! Since there were so many courses, the food came out pretty fast one after another.
The Dj was good. He did his best to cater to the wide range of musical tastes and age ranges.
Great ambiance. Wasn’t too dark to walk around, take pictures, etc, and wasn’t too bright either.
Long line all night for the open bar, but the bartenders were fast and friendly.
A little bit difficult to find on your own due to all the back roads and turns coming from Southern CT. Make sure you have GPS on!

Went here for a wedding this weekend, it was very nice. Chapel is 20 feet away from reception hall. good calamari appetizer (but besides the GIANT cheese table, this was the only appetizer I saw). Champagne fountain, chapel out back, super convenient, great view. regular soup & salad. entrees were delicious and BIG. I had stuffed chicken (stuffed with stuffing, very thanksgiving). the service was good, the DJ was good. The cake was pretty, spice cake was very good, ice cream on top, but the decorative raspberry sauce didnt match the flavor profile :(
