Two waitstaff, 5 tables occupied, 80% of dining room empty and the service was terrible. The goat cheese crab rangoon was okay and the pad thai was good. But couldn’t get water, soda, utensils, etc. Clueless. Probably a good thing they don’t have a liquor or beer/wine license, customers would never get their drinks. How do places like this survive?

East of suez is definitely one of the places in Wolfeboro that my family enjoys going to. You can tell in every dish that there is passion and the owners and chefs love what they do and love what they produce to the customers. I have to say my favorite dish on the menu is the Korean Bulgoki, I order it every time I go. This is one place I hope will continue to thrive for a long time.

I ordered a dish that stated it was vegetarian and it came with what appeared to be beef or pork but I could not tell. When I asked the server he said oh yeah it must be something like that. I told hi I ordered this because I am a vegetarian and it stated on the menu it was and he said ok I’m sorry about that it is a very authentic dish. Not taken off my bill and not asked if I wanted anything else. Over priced and terribly disorganized. No clue on customer service.

I’m torn on this place. On one hand, this is the only place where in the area where you can get this type of East Asian cuisine(as opposed to just Chinese), and the food itself is generally very good. I like the Pad Thai, the desserts, and the peanut salad dressing. The negative is that this place appears to be in an old house and does not have air conditioning and it feels like an attic. It does not take credit cards fyi. This place is only open during the summer and it has a cult following. It is on the more expensive side for food in the town. It also doesn’t have formal parking. I would recommend trying this place but I wouldn’t make a routine of it.

I go to East of Suez every year when we visit Ossipee. I would have always given them a 5 star rating. However, I went last weekend and it wasn’t as good as usual. I ordered special rice and clearly it was an afterthought. Basically rice with soy sauce. Other friends were not impressed either. Maybe just an off night. Hopefully not a trend. Some facts that will hopefully hep you: Bolgagi is probably the best thing on the menu. Dumplings are good too. Service was slow. BYOB is great. Make reservations and ask for the porch. Pad Thai is not great.

What a find in seemingly rural New Hampshire! I know that Wolfeboro is reasonably upscale, but never expected such a great dinner. Interesting décor, we had a great table by the window, fun staff in(my favorite) Hawaiian shirts. Our server was a little«green», but a nice kid, very attentive. Interesting, innovative«eastern» menu, with Pad Thai and other oriental inspired dishes. The Pad Thai was highly recommended by our hosts, and rightly so. It was incredible. Small tossed salad was nice and light, great garlic dressing(with nice big chunks of garlic). They have some wine and beer, but most folks seem to BYOB, with no charge from the restaurant. If you’re in the area and finally get tired of lobster and steamers and chowder, this is the place to go!

We loved this place, the ambience and the food and the woman who owns it and the staff were lovely people. I live here and have driven by this place for years but never realized it was open or in business, as it’s behind bushes and trees from the road. It was a great experience. I’m torn, because I want to give those things five stars, but at the same time wanted to give it far less because the service was terrible. We waited at least a half-hour or more to get waited on. I had to get up and find a server. Then we waited more than that for the dinners to come. Then we waited for the check. We came at 8 and left at 10:30! My companion asked for more water and the server, who was very nice but a terrible waiter, filled his glass, but did not move to fill mine, which was near empty. So all in all, the building and surroundings are delightful, the people were very very pleasant, the food was very good, but the service left a LOT to be desired. We’ll give it another shot, when we have lots of time.

East of Suez is our favorite Wolfeboro restaurant for a relaxed, casual summer dinner. They do not have a liquor license but it is BYOB(We have seen parties with coolers, making martinis, etc). Another reviewer had mentioned the porch. I always want to sit on the porch as it’s cooler, and more wide open… Its quiet and the other diners are generally quite friendly. On our last visit, there were only two of us but we really like to take guests here. We ordered Lumpia and Crab&Corn fritters for appetizers, followed by Thai Red Curry and Pancit Canton.

Always a must-visit when we are in the area! Learned about BYOB and cash-only on the first visit so now we’re all set. Also remember no a/c so dress accordingly when it’s warm. Despite these deprivations we return again and again for the flavorful food that’s beautifully prepared. My husband’s favorite is the Korean steak dish(bulgoki?) and I’ve tried nearly everything and it’s all been good. We’ve found it prudent to make a reservation, pack the cooler(they have openers, wine buckets, etc.) and stop by the ATM on the way.

One of my favorite restaurants!!! Such a hidden gem! its BYOB and only a few items on the menu with many specials. I always get the lumpia and bulgogi which is so so good! You have to make a reservation though!

Discovered this place with my family many years ago. IT is definitely charming. Food is very unique and delicious, but yes expensive. You have to BYOB and cash only, but it is one of a kind. Highly Recommended!

Great summer tradition and wonderful food! Yes, it’s pricey and they only take cash… But it’s well worth it! Ask for the tatami room for extra ambience!

This place cracked me up, in a good way. It looked and felt like the porch of an old hippie’s house that had been set up as a thrift shop… literally, there were all kinds of random items for sale inside, it was like a tag sale-slash-asianfusionrestaurant-slash-hippie’sporch. Which just added to the charm IMO. The food is pretty solid; our party tried multiple apps and entrees, and everyone was pretty happy with everything we ate. The highish prices and smallish portions are more in line with a major city than a small lake town, but that didn’t really bother us: it was ~$ 17 for my tasty pancit, but I could have made it two meals so the portion size was substantial IMO, and the price was reflected in the quality and uniqueness of the food. Also, it’s BYOB, so don’t forget that you’re really saving $$ on alcohol. Bummer that it’s cash only, so come prepared. A unique dining choice amid a sea of subpar tourist joints. UPDATE7⁄2014: they now take credit cards, huzzah! And the food is still really tasty :)

My husband’s aunt and uncle really like this place, so we decided to give it a try. After reading reviews here, we stopped at the ATM(I agree with the reviewer, who doesn’t take the card?!? It’s 2012!). We called to make a reservation for 7 pm and were told that it would be best if we tried for 7:30pm, so we did. When we arrived, we were a little confused as to where to go, but the hostess found us and seated us — right next to the kitchen, which was behind some louvered shutters so we had no idea. Every time a wait person walked into or out of the kitchen there was a loud BANG! Once we got used to it, we were okay, but it was a little jarring to say the least. We knew from reading reviews here that it was BYOB, but we thought we’d at least be offered a beverage, no such luck. Our dinners came with salads — my husband got the creamy garlic dressing which was very good, I got the peanut dressing which had the consistency and taste of watered down peanut butter — it was odd. We also thought it was odd that they brought us our salads and then the app. We had a dining out guide which gave us a coupon for a free app — we picked the goat cheese rangoon. They were okay, I expected more of a tangy goat cheese taste, these really didn’t taste much different than plain old rangoons. My husband ordered one of the specials — a flank steak that wasn’t really a flank steak and quite frankly, I grill a better steak than that one. Completely under seasoned. I ordered the Thai Red Curry and I must say it was fabulous! the only disappointment was there were only two scallops. The service was very slow and I thought the prices were very high for what it was.

Food was great! Small portions for the price. Our servicer was greatly lacking she rarely came to the table and was rude when she was present. Another server was very friendly and accommodating, wish we had him. The food took a really long time to get to us even though the restaurant was less than a ¼ full. Two entrees and one appetizer, the bill was $ 60. Not sure if we will return…

After driving by this place a million times we finally decided to give it a whirl. Glad I did — it’s a funky, quirky, old farm house kind of place with old Asian advertisements and memorabilia, friendly staff, and really good food. The service is pretty slow — and it’s basically cash only(seriously? in 2010?). They were nice enough to let us use cards but this entailed photocopying our cards(front and back), listing our information, and signing. the photo copy. This was fairly inconvenient but we had called ahead and got the o.k. for using cards, so we didn’t have cash on hand. The prices are a little up there($ 18−20/dish). Didn’t love the wing app we got, but I loved my trout special. Others in my party got the Korean beef(two big thumbs up), and the tempura pork(two big thumbs up). I had food envy — my trout was delicious but not a lot of food. Still, it wad really tasty. It’s BYOB only — which I think is great. We had a couple apps, 4 meals, and our own wine. Whole thing came to $ 60/couple including tip at the end. That didn’t seem too bad — so you do save in the end by bringing your own booze. Go there and enjoy — I’ll certainly be back

It’s clear that this place is a favorite amongst those who have discovered it’s quirky charms, including my Dad and his wife. I like it fine, but don’t entirely share their enthusiasm, giving it a solid three stars: A-OK! The restaurant — on Rt 28 between Alton and Wolfeboro — is a ramshackle seasonal joint with slanted floors, a breezy screened in porch(no AC inside), Asian themed décor and un-comfy bentwood chairs. No credit cards accepted — cash or check only. I suspect that one reason this place is popular is because it seems SOVERYDIFFERENT than the majority of available options in the lakes region. They serve(and proudly mix up) a variety of Asian flavors from Thai(Curry), Korean(Kimchee & Bulgogi, which they spell Bulgoki), Phillipine(Adobo), Japanese(Tempura & Yakatori), Chinese(Canton noodles) and Indian(Samosas). For this variety of flavors I find the menu strangely limited, as there are only 6 apps and 8 entrée choices including nightly specials. We sampled the appetizers including spring rolls, cheese Rangoon, and a wasabi shumai, leaving other ordinary options such as satay, yakatori, and hot & sour soup for another day. There is nothing special here; I thought the apps lacked the imagination and flavor apparent in the entrees, and they were priced higher than I’m used to paying for better quality elsewhere. The spring rolls were better with the sauce they served with the Rangoon. The free rice chips are, on the other hand, hands down addictive. I wished they had the Crab and Corn fritters that I’ve read about, but no on two visits. Their salad, which comes with entrée, and tends to be delivered before the apps, is greatly elevated by tasty tangy house made dressings which you should order on the side. You can purchase them to take home. I love the ginger dressing. Speaking of bottles — bring your own if you want alcohol. Their service is not a strength by any means, yet is casual and friendly, so arrive with patience, and expect to have to ask for things like water, wine glasses, specials menu, fresh cutlery, and perhaps your entrée. The waitress, when delivering our check, dryly and succinctly inquired«You Done?». I swallowed a chuckle… The entrees are the clear stars here — no disappointments amongst the several I’ve sampled including the Bulgogi(a Korean BBQ steak), Trout with delish tempura asparagus, and a medium hot Red Curry with Shrimp and Scallops(small quibble — last night the shrimp were slightly overdone, and the scallop under). They feature thoroughly enjoyable, strong yet well balanced flavors, pleasing textures, and nice presentations. Portions are reasonable, and you will either lick your plate clean or, perhaps if you’ve had several apps, take the leftovers home with you. We did a little of both. The desserts looked tempting — and on one occasion we tried a decidedly un-Asian yet decadent chocolate, coffee ice and Kaluha concoction. I would like to have sampled a few others but we had a campfire with S’Mores waiting for us back home. Next time.

I can’t decide which is better about this place — their friendly accommodation for large parties, or the fact that it’s BYOB. Seriously, my first experience included an extra-large thermos of frozen margaritas, a handle of Grey Goose, a cooler of mix-ins, and three bottles of wine. Of course, there were about fourteen of us, but still. Mixing your own drinks and having your personal bar packed right behind your chair is mighty convenient. Not to mention the food… Everything is amazing. The fritters to start are awesome. Then I go with the chicken and pork. Comes with sliced bananas and a ball of sticky rice. And to finish it all? Well, just try any of their desserts. All amazing. Just remember that entrees can run in the $ 20 range, so go with some savings. But it’s definitely worth it.

East of Suez has been a family favorite for many years. In a land of french dip and chicken fingers, this place really stands out. Two things you should know — arrive before you are hungry(it tends to be slow) and bring your own booze or wine(they don’t serve alcohol). The food is great and the atmosphere is wonderful.

This restaurant is phenomenal, especially for being in the Lakes Region. Everyday there are new special items added to the menu. I believe that there are more«specials» than standing items on the menu so it feels as though it changes daily. When you drive by this restaurant you would never think twice, from the road it appears to be falling down. But you should definitely stop here! The dining area is very zen, the perfect ambiance for eating Asian cuisine.
