Ordered take-out from Jangko again, just have to say that their combo boxes are great. Teriyaki salmon and shrimp tempura are my favorites.

We were a little hesitant at the steep prices however the potions are SOLARGE. Its worth it. Everything is delicious. Sushi was fresh and fairly priced. Meat in our cooked dishes was cooked well and tasted great. We even got little coffee cakes at the end of our meal. The lady that served us was very nice. We didn’t even have to ask for refills or boxes, she was great. Very quiet atmosphere. This is by far my favorite sushi place in the area.

I go here out of convenience, it’s 5 mins from my house. It is Korean-owned. Tempura is really good though, I haven’t tried anything else actually… salad dressing is way too heavy on the sesame oil, it’s not the typical tangy deliciousness you usually find at Japanese restaurants. Another review on here said they don’t answer the phone(if you want to-go) and that is true. But there’s really no need to pick up anyway, you can sit here and eat by yourself, it feels homey(even though it’s in a strip mall. ha).

This little restaurant does the trick in satisfaction. The food is delicious and ample. There is enough selection on the menu to meet even the most selective palate. The smile from the kitchen and wait staff is heart warming and inviting. My kids love to go to this place and it is a great date nite restaurant as well. The best part is that the waitress is the mother of the chef and the two of them run the place almost seemlessly(except when the place is full and then, I’m sure you could understand). There are only 7 seating areas so it is cozy and homey feeling.

Looks sketchy from the outside but wow, food and service was excellent. Had the chicken Yakisoba for lunch and it was very good. Came with salad and desert.

I love Asian food. I wish there were half as many as there are Salvadoran restaurants. This«Japanese» restaurant is owned by a lovely Korean woman. Since I love Korean food as much as Japanese, I inquired why she isn’t serving Korean cuisine, she replied that it’s «too complicated to prepare.» Nevertheless, I enjoyed this restaurant very much, albeit the appointments are pedestrian at best, and the shopping center is, as another poster stated, sketchy. You will first be served a lg bowl of chilled iceberg lettuce along with Japanese dressing. The way it was served was unusual but it was fine — I could eat that dressing on sawdust and it would be good. I ordered avocado rolls that were wonderful, and Yakisoba with veggies that was also very good. A tiramisu dessert was served complimentary, surely not Asian, but what the heck. Woodbridge is painfully deficient of good restaurants, so I don’t want to make an issue of little things. If I want an excellent Japanese restaurant, I know exactly where to go in Alexandria. As it is, we have recently moved to Belmont Bay and we are frustrated by too few non-fast food, chain restaurants close by, so I’m thrilled by Jangko.

This restaurant went down hill. I feel like I got insulted when they bring me my sushi. I use to love this place. They are nice people don’t get me wrong. But the food have gone down to the lowest level of sushi can be. To the owner. please fix it.

I loved the service here. I was even brought desert without request for it. I’d return… definitely.

As a Japanese American I am always looking for a good AUTHENTIC Japanese restaurant for myself and my Japanese mother. I am disappointed to say that Jangko did not satisfy. I ordered the Number 1 box for lunch for myself and ordered a sashimi appetizer, seaweed salad and edemame side to go for my mother. The first part of the Number One box served was the salad. It was a HUGE portion of iceberg lettuce with julienned carrots and a miso dressing. It basically was a hunk of lettuce cut into big chunks. Albeit fresh, the presentation was not Japanese at all. As most know, Japanese food is not only about good food but is also about the beauty of the presentation. The bento box portion was more than I expected. But… the quality of the food was well below what I am used to at an authentic Japanese restaurant. The tempura sampler in the box was OK and came with a good tempura sauce. That was the highlight of the box for me. The Gyosa was burned on the bottom and there was no sauce for it. The Yakitori skewer had no flavor and the sauce was very heavy with pectin. It was almost like a jelly… Yuk! The grilled veggies that came with the Yakitori(broccoli, cabbage and sliced carrots) were tasty but very greasy. I did not eat the 6 pieces of Avacado roll and took them to go… The portion of sweet sticky rice was good and what I would expect though I would have preferred it in a small bowl. I know… I am picky… but I’m also ½ Japanese not Korean. I am NOT berating the Korean restaurant operators but its just does not measure up to authentic Japanese food; I am sorry! The Sashimi for my mother… I was more than a bit embarrassed when I gave it to her… when I walked by the«Sushi Bar» the fish on display was in shrink wrapped packages… Ugh… The«Sashimi» was cut into rough chunks as well. Again, not a good presentation. No shredded Diakon radish either… The bill came to nearly $ 60.00 for everything and a 15% tip. That’s expected for great food but NOT sub-par food. Unfortunately I will not return… Sorry for the bad review but my search for a really good Japanese restaurant in Prince William Co. continues…

I ordered the chicken katsu and it was very delicious! The portion given was very large for the price. The owner(our waitress) was polite and professional.

I tried the combination yakisoba and it was absolutely delicious. I’ve tried many japanese places around the dc area and none of them came close to this. A real hidden gem in Woodbridge!

This place used to be good but not anymore. Sushi was soggy, drinking glass was old and dirty, and I watched her make our salad without using gloves.

Great sushi is one of the hardest things to come by. I travel all over the US and I’ve only had amazing sushi in California at one specific restaurant. I have to say, this sushi is the best in NoVA. Crazy right?!? It’s important to be able to taste the ingredients before you soak it in the sauces. I wasn’t fond of the deep fried sushi, but that is just me. Wish I could remember exactly what we ordered, but I added a take away picture so you can look yourself. The area is a little sketchy, but no worries. It’s totally worth it. The owners are very nice.

We are regulars at Jangko. We love it. Yes it’s family run and so you have to wait a little while longer than usual, but the sushi is awesome. The family is always very nice to us. I agree that sometimes you need to remind the waitress about things. To be expected since she is elderly. Overall, great food!

This place is a mixed bag. When we first arrived my initial reaction was to go elsewhere. The strip mall it is in is very old and the other businesses do not look exciting. The restaurant itself seems somewhat out of date, but clean enough so we went in and sat down. We had a large group with us including two small children. I felt comforted by the sticker on the door that said breastfeeding friendly. The two kids are way past that point, but it meant kid friendly in my mind– which is good. We waited more than a few minutes for water and menus, but the little old lady who was our waitress eventually got to us and once we ordered we waited. The wait time was a little long, but it looked like a family run place with only a few employees so we were patient and when the food arrived it was good. They gave us free salad for the table as well as free pieces of mocha cake before we left. We ordered noodle dishes as well as sushi. The yakasoba was delicious. Total winner with an equally great price tag. The sashimi was fresh and large pieces. The roll I ordered(eel, cucumber and roe) came drenched in eel sauce with a ton of roe on top. It was very yummy but a huge mess. So this place all in all was good. If you have the time to sit and wait on food to arrive I would say it is one of the better options in Woodbridge. However if you want a professionally run atmosphere this isn’t it. Try Fairfax.

IF you happen to be on route 1, crave sushi, and spot Jangko… DONOTBOTHERGOINGIN. Service is horrible, sushi is not fresh, and very demanding of tips. After hitting up happy hour at TGIF, my boyfriend was craving some sushi, but by the time we got out, there were not that many sushi places open. He lives fairly close to Jangko and has ordered carryout before without any problems. So we passed by and decided to enjoy some sushi there. When we got in, we were not greeted, we had to walk towards the back of the restaurant to get any attention. Once we were spotted, an older lady sat us at a booth that had signs all over the walls(«please turn off your cell phones». etc). When the older lady came back, my boyfriend surprised her by speaking korean(yes, family owned by koreans). So when she came to take our orders, he was ordering in korean so there should have been no language barrier, he was mid way of ordering when she just walked away from our table. Didnt say«one second» or «excuse me» or anything. she just walked to the back grabbed something to bring back up front. we waited 7 minutes for her to come back with no apology. So anyways, she came back, he continued to order and requested for salmon sashimi only, she said she didnt understand. So he wrote it down for her in Korean. She then smiled and nodded and said ok. Then I ordered the Mochi and she said«ohhhhhhh we dont have that» … WHYISITONYOURMENU??? gahhh. so with that said. I didnt order anything. So moments passed and we ordered a large hot sake for $ 13.95. when it came back, the bottle was the size of a regular size orange with a lid piece on top.(it was small). when she placed it down we asked if this was the biggest size and she said it was the large hot sake. so then we spotted an older male busing tables so we asked him and he said yes it was a large. at the moment the older lady went to the back and brought back a small and medium bottle. DONOTORDERTHEHOTSAKE. NOTWORTHTHEMONEYFORSOMETHINGSOLITTLE. We then asked her for the cold sake bottle and she brought out a much bigger bottle and said that the amount that is in the cold sake bottle is the same as the hot sake bottle. NOWAYINHELLDOESTHATBIGBOTTLEFITINTHESMALLBOTTLE. It was a bit frustrating so we just let it go and drank it, we got about 3 ½ shots of sake with that«large» bottle. Moments passed and the sashimi plate finally came out. Was it all salmon?! NO!!! NOITWASNOT!!! She placed the plate down and walked away and as she was walking away the owner(im guessing) makes a comment in which my boyfriend understood and said«they wanted all salmon but there wont be enough for the rest of the night»… are you kidding me?! it was 9:30 when we ordered. who else would have came in after us and order a whole plate of salmon? at least have some courtesy and notify us that they cant give us the salmon we wanted. But trying not to make a scene or not trying to be difficult we just bit our tongues and tried it. Let me tell you ladies & gents, if i gave my 5 year old nephew a plastic knife and a piece of fish and told him to cut it, he would have done a bit better job than what we got. Yes pieces were very thick but looked like someone had taken a big piece of fish and tore the pieces apart. The salmon pieces were very wet and cold and when we bit into it, THEYWEREFROZEN! I dont know about you guys but when I eat sushi/sashimi, i usually dont get the fishy after taste IF the fish is fresh, but that was not the case here. I had to chew on 6 pieces of ginger in order to get the fishy taste out of my mouth. So after trying to eat the sashimi, we gave up and asked for a box. but before that, just to prove a point; we ordered a bottle of cold sake to pour into the«large» bottle they gave us to see if it really does in fact have the same amount. ****DRUMROLLSPLEASE…**** guess what? we were able to top the bottle, have spillage, and a quarter of the bottle left. But they claim it was the same size bottle. SOOO towards the end of the night. we asked for the check and it was given to us. We still had sake to finish so we never signed our bill yet but the older lady would come around every 4 minutes and stand there watching to see if we signed the bill. We told her that we wanted to wait to finish our sake and then sign and she walked away. to cut things short; we didnt think our service deserved much tip so we gave them what we thought was appropriate, lady came to take the bill and started to huff & puff. in my opinion we gave a decent amount for what happened. the younger lady then came out and said we gave too little tip. then we started to explain why and she tried justifying it by saying she gave us 32 pieces instead of 24& that the old lady didnt undestand we wanted only salmon. We decided to give this Korean-owned Japanese restaurant a try. Now, I’m a huge fan of Akai Hana back in Wilmette, IL — it’s a comfort thing, and their food always satisfied my little bento box cravings and such. However, I was so freaking pleasant surprised at this place — who cares about the ‘décor’ and all that nonsense? You come here for the food, and it doesn’t matter what the interior/exterior looks like. The restaurant is settled off of JD Highway in a little plaza, and you could miss if if you’re not looking for it. When we entered, only one other family of 5 was dining, so we weren’t the only one. The owner(I believe the daughter), who was incredibly sweet, came over to take our beverage orders; you get free refills, but it comes by cans(not a big deal, but I was worried that the woman didn’t understand in me in terms of ‘free refills’). They had two Hispanic workers in the back, so the ‘daughter’ wasn’t cooking. Regardless, the menu reeked of a Korean-owned Japanese restaurant, which I don’t have a problem with! They had your usual bulgogi, galbi, appetizers with gyozas and such; a sushi/maki/nigiri menu; they also had bento boxes, yakisobas, udon, and teriyaki. After we ordered, we were served with a bowl of fresh iceberg lettuce with the best homemade sesame dressing I have ever tasted — it was so darn tootin’ good, I kept eating and eating it — loved the nutty/sweet/savory taste of the dressing, and my husband agreed. We also received a bowl of miso soup, and it was definitely the best miso soup I’ve tasted– tasted pretty much like my mom’s when she’s making the miso soup! I was impressed, and I slurped that baby right up. We also ordered a Crunchy Spicy Tuna maki roll as well as a deep-fried Salmon roll — the tuna roll was handmade by the owner with a good amount of fresh tuna — a little wet compared to the other makis I’ve tried, but it still tasted good in terms of the taste and the texture — if you can’t hold it with a chopstick correctly, it’ll fall apart. The salmon roll came nestled in a sweet sauce, with the spicy sauce to dip in — deep fried to the max, but I still enjoyed it. I ordered the Jangko Bento Box #2, which came with about 3 – 4 galbi slices(more sweeter than I liked, but still pretty okay) on a bed of steamed cabbage salad, 4 steamed/then fried gyozas(I believe with veggie/pork filling), 6 pieces of chunky avocado California rolls, and the crispiest shrimp/sweet potato/broccoli tempura I have ever tasted in my life. You wanted crispy battered veggies, this is the place you want to go to — the tempura batter and the outcome itself was delicious, not to mention the spicy sauce that comes with(LOVED it!) — it was so crunchy! My husband stated he couldn’t taste anything but the crunch, but I LOVED it. He ordered the udon, which came with your choice of 2 tempura(I stole his shrimp) — it came in a cute little pot with handles, piping hot, and it had a solid flavor — he really liked it. The beef yakisoba reminded me of a version of very thin lo mein noodles, but it tasted a little dry, but still good dipped in the side of spicy sauce it came with — I could see myself craving for these noodles once in a while(more than a craving for Pad Thai and such). The total bill was about $ 65, which wasn’t that bad in terms of the quality, the big-butt portions, and the flavors — I believe this place was even better than Akai Hana, and I would DEFINITELY come back — I am also curious in terms of their consistency, so either way, you’ll find me back in there. The waitresses/cooks were incredibly sweet, and they can make a mean set of meals; the owner could be a little bit more attentive in terms of management, but we still had a relaxing dinner. Ample amount of parking space, I would trek up here any time I’m craving for some solid Japanese food — yummy! +best sesame salad dressing! +miso soup +large, generous maki rolls +crispy tempura!!! +friendly staff: D

The service here is fantastic. The Korean owners of this restaurant are very friendly and attentive to their customers. The senior lady who waits on tables is such a sweetheart and she serves with a smile to every patron. Unfortunately, that was pretty much the best part of my experience. Jangko to me is the epitome of a Japanese restaurant watered down for American consumption. Even though the owners are indeed Korean, the female cook was hispanic and from the constant correcting that was going on, I got the impression that she was having a hard time understanding how to prepare the food. I understand this is Woodbridge, but believe me when I say that there are other Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese restaurants in the area that do quite well without the support of «asian communities» like those in Seven Corners, Annandale or Centreville. If you are going to visit this place you must go during the day to take advantage of the lunch specials. I have a feeling this is what generates most of their business. The restaurant was packed with local business workers on a weekday afternoon when i was there. I finally ended-up with a very fast-foodesque bento box, that was ok, but it had the flavor more of a Long John Silvers rather than a Japanese sushi place. The sushi prices themselves are really high. There is literally nothing under $ 20 and that’s kinda crazy for a place in Woodbridge that looks like this place does. The restroom reminded me of an Exxon I encountered during a bathroom emergency I had on the way up to New York a couple of years back. It would be nice to have a really good Korean or Japanese restaurant in Woodbridge. I’m still looking.
